A lot more progress on Magic Duels this week before I hit the massive lull to the various achievements that require a lot of grinding. I started off the week with hitting rank 40 online, which only required two wins against my other account. With that out of the way, I could play online without having to worry about losing against other players. But, then why would I? I have my other account, so besides for fun I usually matched with my alt account or I'd quit out and try again. I kept this up for each daily quest and tried to get about 5 wins every day. With the winning matched and completing quests, I'm getting a lot of coins to use to buy packs. I was worried getting all the mythic-rarity cards in the Origins set would take a while, but I found out that you can only get so many of each card. Since you always get one rare or mythic card in each pack and can only have two of each rare card in your collection and one of each mythic, it should take a maximum of about 80 booster packs to get them all. I have to be close. I also dabbled a little in the campaigns, completing the Shadows Over Innistrad campaign (for fun/cards/coins) and Jace's Origins campaign, for the achievement (and coins). I'll keep doing a few matches a day, finish the vs matches, and move to doing solos daily. I'll get this done!

I quickly finished up Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions this week, as I only had a miscellaneous achievement and one more platinum time medal left to get. The achievement was to beat a Noir mission without raising an alarm, which I quickly earned on the first Noir level. The nice thing is if you quit out after being noticed, you can start from the last checkpoint with your achievement attempt intact! That helps, because the controls will often make Spider-Man jump in front of guards or instead of doing a takedown he'll web sling into them. I only had to exit out a few times, though, so it wasn't that bad. This left my speedrun of Ultimate Carnage's level. It was so much easier just skipping the annoying zombies and symbiotes and guard robots. I beat the whole level with plenty to spare and didn't even die once, earning my final platinum and earning my final achievement. A neat idea for a game that wasted its potential. Shame.

My first Gamefly rental came this week in the form of Monster High New Ghoul In School, a game I almost played last time I had a subscription but it ran out before I could. This was similar to Barbie and her Sisters Puppy Rescue (which came out at the same time) where you're doing repetitive tasks and can't fail. It's also quite boring. But, hey, it's an easy completion so I made my ghoul Frangula (gula being the Latin root for gargoyle) and got to it. A lot of it is following an arrow and talking to the other students. There's a story, but it's stupid and dumb. I managed to get the achievements fairly quickly and the only grind is for the clothing and that didn't take long at the end on Wednesday. Easy peasy and definitely achievement whore bait.

Went a little old-school this week with Retro City Rampage, a game I'd put off only because it's going for an old-school aesthetic and developers often like to make the achievements difficult. But, this one didn't seem too bad so I finally took the dive. Wow, what a hit of nostalgia. As a kid of the late80s/early 90s, I played a LOT of the NES and this just takes me back. Though, playing a recreation of the dam level from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gives me PTSD flashes... Anyway, the game is more-or-less an answer to the question, "What if GTA was on the NES?" and answers it in a fun, chaotic, and Easter Egg-filled way. The majority of the miscellaneous achievements I earned by accident and found the gold medals really easy in the arcade challenges. Actually, the game overall is pretty easy, with the gold medals only really coming down to luck with spans for kills. But, there is one tough achievement, for beating a Smash TV-esque stage without dying from start-to-finish. But, even this was easy and I got it after only three tries. It's sadly been delisted, but it's a fun game! If you can get your hands on it, play it!

After completing Retro City Rampage, I jumped straight into Realms of Ancient War, as I just need a game to play between now and when my next Gamefly game gets here. I only play the first two levels, but it is a very standard Diablo-style dungeon crawler. It's seeming like it'll be pretty boring. I also have to do three playthroughs. Yay...

I finally got another achievement in Comedy Central! I've been letting a couple stand-up specials run when not using the main TV. At about an hour long, it took... well, 30 hours to get this. Now it's time to get the 100 hour one! Then I need to get the one for having a cable subscription. Maybe I can find someone to lend me theirs. Otherwise, I may have to get a month of cable JUST for that... And I will.

I continued my quest for justice in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, working through the last half of the game. The game didn't get anymore enjoyable, with the mechanical flaws just becoming more glaringly obvious as the game gets more difficult. The most annoying is still the combat, with the various Spider-Men loving to randomly attack crates, walls, and thin air. Sometimes they'll step on a piece of rubble or something mid-combo and go launching into the air, ruining said combo. But, overall the game was still fairly easy and I had little issue getting the platinum medals using only two runs on each level. The hardest one was the final level against Mysterio, which thank goodness I didn't have to platinum. Would have been a pain. By Saturday evening I'd gotten distracted with another game and only had one more platinum to get and to complete a Noir level without being seen. Shouldn't be hard.

I didn't play too much Magic Duels this week, mostly playing a little everyday for the Daily Quest. It wasn't until I got a quest on Saturday to win 2 versus matches and had trouble finding an opponent that I wondered to myself...why don't I have my alt account and second Xbox One in here? When I tried this out and realized I could use the loading screen to discern if I was loading into a match with my alt account or not, I excitedly spent most of the day doing so, reaching rank 35 and getting many, many of the miscellaneous achievements out of the way. Besides the time needed for the daily quests, I'm feeling much better about this completion. Now to get the 500 versus match wins I don't have to stress so much. Sure, I could keep boosting with my other Xbox, but now I could just play for fun and not worry about getting wrecked by people with either a lot of time or a credit card and losing my rank. For Dominaria!

This week saw Shawn1991 and I finally end our grind to finish Sniper: Ghost Warrior's multiplayer. We finished the long 2000 kill grind on Wednesday, one day later than estimated since we didn't play on Monday. Then, we quickly knocked out the other achievement for 50 wins on Thursday. We realized too late that it would have probably been beneficial to grind our kills in the Team Deathmatch mode where we got our wins due to the fixed spawn point...well, hindsight is 20/20. Whatever, it's completed!

For my first run in Storm, I only had Winter to get through. It didn't take long to clear those levels. I even skipped level 10 and 11 because you have these seeds that allow you to skip levels and since I was getting to end I needed to use them. With the main mode out of the way, it was time for Spirit Mode. This mode had me replaying all of the levels from the previous mode except now I had to collect spirits. I started in Winter (since it was the freshest in my mind) and at first I panicked. Upon loading the first level, I saw a timer counting down and thought that was the time I had to collect all the spirits! It didn't take long on these more difficult levels to realize the timer was just related to the leaderboard; nothing to do with getting achievements or completing anything. This was a relief and I took my time getting the last run done, wrapping things up on Monday.

With Storm, an XBLA title, out of the way it was back to something bigger. I'm getting really low to what I have left to play on Xbox 360, with most of my remaining digital titles being games I actually wanna play. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is one that, as a comic book enthusiast, looked really cool and I loved the inclusion of Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Man Noir. These latter levels are stealth-based, which is definitely my favorite style of gameplay so I was really excited about that. Sadly, the execution leaves something to be desired. The controls are horrendous. Like, really bad. Whether it's wall-climbing, fighting, or swinging around it just doesn't work well. It's a shame, because everything else works great. The story is cool and even written by one of Marvel's writers (which he later took and used the idea for a crossover event in the books) and even includes versions of characters that haven't appeared yet in the comics. Each universe has a different art style and each Spider-Man is even voiced by someone that has done a Spider-Man's voice before in various cartoons. Again, everything surrounding the actual gameplay is cool; it's just the meat of it that's lacking. Anyway, achievement-wise, it's fairly standard beat-em-up fare with getting combos, ranking up abilities, and getting high scores. I managed to get 6 of the stages completed on Easy, then Hard, then Hard again. I have to play on Hard to be able to unlock platinum medals, so I'd play on Easy first to get a feel and level up before trying on Hard. But, by the time I'd reached Act II I could easily take my fist run on Hard. By Saturday night I had 6 of the 12 sets of platinum I needed. I'm not worried. I am dragging my feet a little, though.

Jeez, I hope that webbing breaths...Jeez, I hope that webbing breaths...

This week saw Shawn1991 and I begin our grind to finish Sniper: Ghost Warrior's multiplayer. It's pretty simple, as we have our two boosting accounts in with us and we run around a small map killing them. I can't wait to put this game away, as it's just no good. Even the compass in the multiplayer is broken, always pointing North. It's just weird, though it won't be much longer. We're making good progress and have it down to where we know where the spawns are. This'll get done. We got about 2/3 of the way through the 2000 kills. I'm estimating around Tuesday.

So, I must have had a brain aneurism or something because, out of the blue on Friday I started Magic Duels. I love playing Magic cards, but this is still crazy. Not only does this game have an achievement that will take a minimum of 500 days, but there's a rank 40 TrueSkill achievement that I'm gonna have to get legit. Not only is this going to take over a year to finish, but I'm not sure I'll even be able to. It's going to be a tough one, but so far I'm rank 2 and I've completed 3 daily quests. That's a start. I would be a higher rank, but I had two matches in a row online where I could easily have won but kept drawing nothing but lands, handing my opponent the victory. I'll admit, the challenge of beating this is seeming daunting...We'll see, I guess.
