I continue my efforts with Overwatch, but now I'm kinda stuck playing as Sigma, my current character. His first achievement is pretty easy, but the second is very situational and may take a while. Luckily, I'm still having plenty of fun just playing the game so it's kind of a background game and I play a little now and then. The problem with this achievement, to kill 3 people with Sigma's special attack, is that Sigma's attack is really weak. I'm gonna have to get lucky and find three weaker heroes to use it on. Besides a few miscellaneous achievements, I didn't get much done.

With no achievements really sure for my other two games, it was time to start something easy to play. Minit had been added to Game Pass recently and MadMikeForever had mentioned it was an easy and quick completion in the TA fan Discord. A quick search showed this was true so I loaded it up. Unlike most really easy and simple games (like the one I played later this week...) this was actually a fun game. It's like a Legend of Zelda game in 60 second increments. After 60 seconds you die and start back at whatever domicile you have marked as your home, keeping all the items you've collected but the environments and enemies go back to where they were. It's really fun and very reminiscent of the first Legend of Zelda game. I had a lot of fun, though it's short-lived as the game is...uh, short-lived. I definitely recommend it, as it's never once even kinda difficult. You even get to skip the end boss during the Second Run mode, which is harder.

Didn't get much done in Payday 2 either, though I also played it far less than Overwatch. I did manage to hit level 70, so at least I got my achievement for getting the best armor at 50. This is also being played little by little. It'll get done. Sooner or later.

With Payday 2 not taking up much of my time anymore, it was time to start getting on that backlog. Borderlands 2 got new achievements randomly back in June to bridge the gap until the sequel. It wasn't bad at all, and it's only a few hours long. It was nice to be back in the world; I hadn't really thought about Borderlands 3 much but after playing this it makes me want to play it even more. This was also the first time the main games has referenced the events of Tales from the Borderlands. I managed to wipe the floor with the enemies since I still have all my incredibly strong gear. I even easily solo'd the raid boss. Guess I should start thinking about doing both versions of The Pre-Sequel soon.

Starting One Eyed Kutkh was definitely not planned. I didn't even know what kind of game it was! But, for the first time since starting my streak, I was out and almost broke it! Around 11 I realized I wasn't getting home in time so I jumped on TA and sorted my collection by lowest ratio. This came up, so I had to walk my spouse through getting this done with no way to even know what kind of game it was! Luckily, as I was about to pull in at 11:47, she managed to get an achievement unlocked. So, I would have been fine but still. Anyway, it's even shorter than Minit, so after getting a much needed rest I easily knocked it out Saturday. Takes about an hour following a guide. And, that's because it DRAGS. Lots of "going on for too long" animations and sloooow movements. If not for that, the game would be 10 minutes! Haha.

I really should have been working on Payday 2 more than I did this week, but I'm already more or less at the point where it's all grinding now, so I just didn't want to. And, with my playing Overwatch more (which is far more fun) I just didn't much time I was willing to give up. But, I did play with Shawn1991 when he was available on Wednesday, which is WAY more fun because this is clearly a game created with co-op in mind. He helped me get a few achievements he'd already gotten. This leaves not very many level-based miscellaneous achievements left to get; it's pretty much all grinding from here. I'm tempted to leave this on the backburner and do it slowly. Maybe a level-a-day or something?

I really started my work on Overwatch this week. Until now, it was mostly focusing on the season events, getting those knocked out before they went back to being unobtainable. But, I really enjoy the game overall so I decided I'd just start on the other achievements. Namely, the majority of the achievements involving the 31 characters in the add-ons and base game. each character has two achievements related to their powers, some taking a quick run while others take hours and hours until the perfect situation pops up to even allow an attempt. I started with the Tank class of heroes, because when you Quick Play you get to choose a class to enter the queue for. The game rewards playing as less popular classes, and it seems no one wants to play Tanks. I wanted to try one of the add-on characters (I'd seen all the base ones in various videos) so I started with Wrecking Ball, a...hamster in an orb-shaped mech. He was fun, and it only took me a few matches before I had his two achievements. Next, I did what I always do: start pecking at the tough ones first. Before I even started I knew that Winston, the hyper-intelligent gorilla, was a particularly tough set of achievements. You have to take out 10 turrets/traps without dying and hit 6 enemies in one use of your Ultimate attack. That first one is going to be near-impossible, but the second seemed doable. But, the numbers show it's much tougher than you'd expect: the attack only lasts 10 seconds, and even being incredibly aggressive you can maybe get two Ultimates charged up before the end of a normal-length match. So I only get two chances to try at something that may not even present itself. And, when it did, I still had to quickly hit the enemies before the attack ended! Thank goodness I didn't have to kill them with the attack, because that would be FAR more difficult. Even hitting them was tough. I tried multiple times throughout the week and for hours on Saturday. Every time I got close I'd have one enemy not nearby or out of sight. But, the achievement was mine late Saturday when I smacked around an entire team in the moon colony map. From that pain-in-the-butt I moved to Reinhart, which by comparison was far easier. I moped that up in less than an hour and next was Roadhog. He took a little over an hour. The next Tank I'm going to attempt is another add-on character, Sigma. His achievements also look pretty easy. I'm not worried.

What a SHOCKING development!What a SHOCKING development!

Oh yeah...Minecraft. Ever since March, the game has received four updates with achievements across the various platforms but I have neglected getting around to them. I used the Windows 10 version to extend my streak on Tuesday, not expecting to then go unlock achievements in both of my other games. Whoops.

The same situation occurred on Thursday, so I used the Xbox One version of Minecraft. This time it was actually necessary and was my only achievement for the day. I spent the rest of the night trying to get Winston's achievement in Overwatch and grinding experience in Payday 2.

My day on Sunday was spent cleaning up the leftover achievements in Thief of Thieves: Season One, which consisted of finishing the final chapter and then going back to cleanup some achievements in Chapter 3. It really all took less than an hour and, like the rest of this game, was quite simple and quick. I thought maybe there'd be some final confrontation, but it's just a short dialogue and the game is over. Anticlimactic, but I suppose it IS called "episode one". I wonder if they made enough to warrant a continuation of the story.

So, I expected my Game Pass subscription to end this past weekend, but I must have misread...something, because instead of it ending on Oct 21 as I expected, it actually refreshed on Oct 15. So, even though I have another month of the subscription, I'm going to move on as planned. Maybe I'll jump in and play something short if it strikes my interest. For now, it's time for that non-backwards compatible backlog! At the behest of Shawn1991, the next game was Payday 2. I'd actually been interested in this one for a while, as it always looked like a fun combination of Left 4 Dead and a heist movie. But, as I played I realized this version doesn't have a whole lot to do. There's only around 10 different scenarios and the goal seems to be just to get better at them and play them at increasing difficulty. In other words it's a massive grind, especially since I have to get to level 100. There's a nifty way to get a lot of experience for minimal effort, though, and you can hit level 100 in about 10-12 hours. That's a far cry from the 80-100+ hours a grind like this would normally take. I'm already bored, that's for sure. You can see how this game got tossed by the wayside by Starbreeze; a lot of the mechanics don't feel very polished and parts of the game like stealth just don't work well at all. It's also far more fun with others. Luckily, somehow, there are still a lot of people playing this and finding a group isn't hard. I got to level 30 before the end of the week and Shawn1991 and I managed to get a good few of the various mission-based achievements. This definitely won't take a whole lot longer.

Speaking of things to do, Overwatch still looms on my 'tag and another seasonal event has begun: Junkenstein's Revenge! It's more or less a horde mode, and I decided to jump right into the hardest difficulty, Legendary. I first tried throughout the week with randoms, but when it came to the very chaotic last wave the lack of communication just got us wrecked. I was worried when I started I'd be lacking since I really haven't played this game much. Turns out, I'm not bad, at least in this mode. In fact I was usually the last person alive and sometimes managed to save the attempt. I didn't try too much until Thursday when some members of the TA Discord group jumped in and helped. It was MUCH easier with a coordinated group and we quickly knocked out the three needed difficulties and also the Endless mode, which is the same as Revenge but with more waves and far more bosses. There's no way I would have been able to do that one with randoms. Having played some, I wanted to play more so on Saturday I managed to get Wrecking Ball's achievements out of the way. I figure when I do play I'll pick the role on Quick Play that'll give rewards and just work on one of those characters. But, with Halloween out of the way it's back to the backburner with this.

Unlike the past few weeks, my time spent in Dead Rising 4 this week was mercifully simple. I only had to run the multplayer a few more times and grind Zenny in the Super Ultra Dead Rising 4 Mini-Golf add-on. This whole DLC is an extension of a running gag in the main game where Vic tricks Frank to getting back into reporting by promising mini-golf and he references it a few times through the game. And that validates a four-course mini-golf game? Luckily this is quite simple and you again don't have to do the add-ons Trials. The big achievement is for unlocking all of the customization options in the shop. You can get about 20,000 every go on the first course, and it takes about 10 minutes to get through the four holes if you know what you're doing. I had my achievements for completing the multiplayer in the base game sitting all week as backup since I only needed to complete a single boss fight by the end of Sunday. Had to pop this on Wednesday when I had no achievements to keep my streak going, then finished the grind and the game the next day. I'm finally done! What a stupidly disappointing game.

My work has been ongoing with Just Dance 2016, as I use it as my exercise all the time, though even more frequently lately as I try to stay in shape. This of course meant I started really making an effort on the game's Dance Quests. And, besides being tiring as you have to do 3 songs in a row well, I never failed one...until the second to last. It was the first Dance Quest to include one of the two Extreme routines, which are much more complex than the normal Just Dance fare. They're almost like actual choreography. The one I failed on also had alternate routines, which I never played because you don't have to for the "get all 5-stars" achievements and they're not as fun, in my eyes. It's also "Circus" by Britney Spears, which is not exactly my style. But, I obviously beat it on my second try and even cleared the final quest. That Extreme routine was "Animals" by Martin Garrix, something more in my wheelhouse and I knocked it out of the park with a 5-star first try (YouTube it)! As I said, I use this as my workout often, so I even went and gold-medaled a few of the unnecessary Just Dance Unlimited quests. I'm just that good! This leaves buying all the Mojo items and the requisite 4-player achievement these games always have. The former I actually thought I'd have on this blog this week and about had a stroke when I bought the final avatar and no achievement popped. Luckily, it was my own error and there was in fact a whole 'nother section of stuff I had to purchase: the Mash-Ups. I never even saw these routines! I managed to buy a handful before the end of the week. Guess I have more grinding left than I assumed.

With Dead Rising out of the way and my Game Pass ending in a few days, I decided to start Thief of Thieves: Season One on Friday. From my reading it seemed this would be an easy completion and I wasn't mistaken. In fact, the hardest part is that there are no cohesive guides anywhere. Sure, Steam and TA both have achievement-by-achievement guides, but the way the game is structured there are far more efficient waysto get these without having to play the (very short) levels over again. But, even having to make 2-3 runs on multiple acts, each act takes only a few minutes to get through. It's an odd combination of a stealth game mixed with a point-and-click. The story is kind of interesting, but I didn't pay it much mind; my number one goal was to finish this before my Game Pass ended. It didn't take long until I was on the final chapter. Apparently this is also a comic book series and soon an AMC show? Huh.

Extreme sports rule, bro!Extreme sports rule, bro!

Achievements Earned In:
- Dead Rising 4

Platform: Xbox One
Achievements unlocked: 27
Gamerscore earned: 475
Completion: 90%

So, my opinion has swung wildly these past few weeks. When I started Dead Rising 4, I felt annoyed how un-Dead Rising like it was, but it was still a fun action game and that was my opinion through my first playthrough and my Blackest Friday run. Things started shifting when, while grinding my mass of zombie kills, my car would randomly fly off the road. Okay, maybe this game is just a little glitchy, not bad. Cap Com Heroes was a lot of fun and I forgot those problems and enjoyed the wacky action. Then, this week, I started the Frank Rising add-on and the multiplayer grind and I've landed squarely on "may this game burn in hellfire for all eternity". Like, seriously, screw Frank Rising. What braindead monkey thought that would be fun?!

So, first for Frank Rising, all your progress matters naught because (SPOILER) Frank dies at the end of the main game and becomes a zombie. He has the same powers as the Zombie Frank costume in Capcom Heroes (I assumed that's where that came from) and you have to level those up separately. Zombie Frank also can't use any of the items or vehicles in the game. So...even less like Dead Rising. To complete the DLC you have to race against a timer (hey, look, they remembered!) while also completing challenges that power you up. On Normal, this is no problem, but you have to do another Blackest Friday run for the completion and the only way to get the "good" ending is to complete these challenges. THIS IS STUPID. You take just an obscene amount of damage from enemies as zombie Frank, even fully-powered up; when you die or reload a checkpoint any time that has passed isn't given back; and the only way you can heal is by racking up a combo and feeding on enemies. This doesn't even heal you much. And, since you need to be in combat to heal and get a large enough combo you run the risk of dying. The entire structure of the add-on is just built for frustration and it ticked me right off. I pretty much had to push and fight my way through my second playthrough until I got to the end, when soldiers show up and make it even worse. It was after struggling through the majority of the game that I read around and realized there's a glitch that makes it so you never lose time as long as you don't die. See, when you hit a checkpoint the game only saves your progress; it doesn't save the actual clock until you die or quit out. The way to take advantage of this is to log out of your account when you hit a checkpoint, the game will boot you out, log back in, load your save and you'll find you're at the new checkpoint with your old time. Of course I found this out at the end but it made the last bit of the game a little less stressful. Screw all that.

On the other hand, I also worked on the multiplayer and it was far easier, if not the most dull thing ever. I'm not sure why they thought this would be fun or engaging enough to justify such a long grind, but I guess that's the high hopes of any multiplayer game. You know what would have better? The normal co-op Dead Rising multiplayer. But, what we're stuck with is four levels with the same handful of objective ad nauseum for a 20+ hour grind. And it wouldn't even be that long if you didn't complete the missions for 5 minutes then sit around waiting for the day to end. There are two days in each episode and you have to make it to the end of Day 2 to kill the boss. It was so freaking boring getting to where I ended the week, at about 20 more boss kills and a little less than 60 missions. I also played a very small amount of the minigolf add-on, but it's no where near as bad as I'd feared. That add-on is actually what worried me the most and I think it'll be Frank Rising that was the true test. It should be downhill from here. Ugh, what a disappointing end to one of my favorite franchises of all time. I'm sure Capcom will drag its bloody corpse out sometime and make another entry, but for now, with the developer out of commission due to this game, I don't think we'll see one soon.
