Death and rebirth or why I'm leaving for the PS4.
Let me start by saying back when the original Xbox released I was a instant fanboy of MS's xbox brand. With a more user friendly online gaming network and some great games you couldn't play anywhere else I was hooked. For years it was the only console I played on,then the xbox 360 released. With better graphics then the original and greatly improved xbox live service.
It was like coming home and seeing the girl next door had grown up into a really hot woman. With new exclusive IPs like Gears of War I was in gamer heaven. And for years it was my exclusive gaming console.I didn't even bother with the PS3 because I enjoyed the 360 so much.
But the good times don't last forever. The xbox one was revealed and before any word on the MS's drm policies were officially revealed I adamantly defended the console.Telling people wait to E3 and more info is released. Then the policies were confirmed and MS did what can only be called a douche bag move. They didn't answer gamer concerns they completely blew them off.Add to that MS execs made remarks that the gaming community took as a big fuck you.
So like many I dropped my xbox one pre order and switched it to the PS4.And the ignorant and dare I say stupid defense of these consumer unfriendly policies by fanboys, further Soured the taste MS left.I no longer could remain a fan of the Xbox brand.Especially as the few exclusives I was interested in were revealed to not be exclusive for more then 1 year.
Now MS has gone and changed these policies when they saw the decrease in pre orders. And some gamers are going to get the console now, though those I have talked to say it won't be for a while. And I agree it's nice to see that we the consumers can force change by speaking with our wallets. But I find it's too little too late,While they may reduce the damage some and not be a complete failure at launch.MS has tarnished what reputation they had with me and I can not in good faith support the xbox one.
On a final note I find the blind fanboys that think heavy handed drm was a good thing to be utterly disgusting. And indicative of why I feel going with the PS4 is the better choice. If your gonna buy a xbox one go ahead it's your money. But be warned to believe they won't incrementally apply the drm policies to the xbox one over the next couple years is foolish.Remember the story of the frog and the scorpion. It's in MS's nature to do what is best for their pockets not what's best by it's customers.
