PermalinkThe path to 100 complete games 37 weeks in
BOOM!! this was a good few weeks on the completion front. smilesmilesmile

Summer in the UK has continued to be dreary, punctuated with bursts of sunshine for the odd few days. Happily the sunny days have been on weekends, so its been BBQ, Zoo and days out (my average points over the weekend are far lower than during a week day). Also I've been using the weekends to attempt to get into some of the longer games in my collection and the week on the games I would class as short / mid term.

Forza Horizon 3 is still on regular rotation - aided by the release of the Hoonigan pack and getting all but one of the Hot Wheels pack. Now to take on the main game with the remaining achievements (championships, bucket lists etc). I've started Mass Effect Andromeda but havn't made much progress and I find it slow going and strangely un-engaging compared to the earlier first 3 games. I'm in danger of leaving it for a few months and then starting from scratch with a new Ryder.

I also purchased Marvel Ultimate Alliance bundle and started that again, but since it appears that nothing has been done to make it current-gen, that will swiftly be at the back of ths list. Quite annoyed at that bundle being re-released with no improvements. I also picked up the Batman Arkham bundle and am redoing Arkham Asylum with the plan to plow on to City and Knight.

However, I have managed to complete 5 new games in the last few weeks which has pushed me up to 95 completed games (87 percent of goal). Leaving 15 weeks to get the last 5. I think this is going to be pretty straightforward now as I have LIfe is Strange Prequel, Walking Dead Season 3 and a few others that should get me over the line.

This periods completions...

Uncanny Valley:
Pixel art type of game. Like a 1980's version of a Twin Peaks kind of game. Difficult to explain what is going on in the game and used a guide exclusively after my first 2 hours of play made no sense. Drops you straight into the story but without any setup its very hard to work out what the monsters are, why you are being chased and why are there mobsters and a deserted factory.

Knight Squad (via Game Pass):
Really enjoyed this. As a party game rock with a few friends round it was a riot. There's some really pleasant details like the individual knight animations and names and a great variety of party games. People complained about the loading times but they are not as bad as was made out. Some good challenging Achievements in this as well.

Defense Grid 2
Really enjoyed the story mode, then had to grind out the 100 gold medals achievements and then found a willing Co-Op partner online (thanks! ). When you get into the grid, once you work out that temporal, concussion towers with a few canon's and meteors covering the entire map will win most battles it did become a bit tedious. But if you like this type of game, its a must have.

Whispering Willows:
Side scrolling hand drawn type of visuals game let down by a some bad implementations (IMHO). Not being able to run in the house, having to stop to interact with everything and some really odd enemy placement that makes a couple of rooms controller smashing frustrating. Other than that a pretty swift and simple 1000 points.

The Little Acre
. Reminiscent of a good old point and click adventure story. Although quite a linear game in terms of progression it tells a nice story pretty well and I enjoyed playing it through twice. Note to a couple of sections of the soundtrack really working well with the characters predicaments. You can speed run in under an hour (And must for one achievement).

PermalinkThe path to 100 complete games 32 weeks in
3 more games completed brings me to a total of 90, thats 10 to go in 20 weeks, pretty achievable.

Not a long update this time, just keeping to what I've been playing and what I"ve completed. Mostly I've been playing Defense Grid 2, grinding up to 100 Golds. Now just the 2 multiplayer achievements to get - if anyone reading this also needs them, get in touch !! I've also complete the single player campaign on Battlefield 4 which is the first Battlefield game I've got into since Bad Company 2. Mostly enjoyable apart from the level one from the end that took a lot of deaths (mine!) to get through until I realised I could get in the vehicle then away we went. Apart from missing a few special guns I'm pretty finished with it now.

Completed games this time..

Forza Horizon Fast and Furious: came out on sale for £2 so picked it up, drove around finished it again (having done the 360 version a couple of years back). Showing its age now but for £2 to get 1000 points and complete the game it was an easy choice

Walking Dead Season 2: Purchased it in a sale some time back and went through it again (having also done this game on 360). Still frustrated by the TellTale engine freezing whenever just before a set piece. Enjoyable game, not my favourite TellTale game (Wolf among us takes that title).

#IDARB got via the GamePass. Absolutely bonkers but an easy 900. The last achievement needs to be done on line which took a while to find a game session. One of the most imaginative Achievements is the Over the air achievement, although it doesnt work on Twitter, it worked fine on Twitch and is pretty clever. Rest of the game is mad.

PermalinkThe path to 100 complete games 29 weeks in
Over half the year is gone - the days are starting to get shorter and the nights are getting shorter. For me, a nice uninterrupted period with no work travel has meant I can sit down and enjoy some gaming once everyone in the house has gone to bed.

Also, because its been unseasonably warm in the UK (which means its actually been very warm and sunny !) which means the 2 1/2 year old has been waking early, and demanding to be in the toy room which doubles as the xbox room so at 4:30 am, a little bit of gaming can be squeezed in until she can be persuaded to go back to bed!

Really good summer sale on xbox from my perspective, I picked up quite a few games - mostly all Indie's - the only actual AAA games I bought (and looking back - the only AAA games I'v bought this year!) were Mass Effect and Titanfall2 - both of which I've added to the backlog.

The last few weeks, I've been finally got this achievement which was driving me nuts as I was within 4 stars for about 8 weeks, and the drift challenges were just killing me. Finally got them both in the space of one morning. Now I just need to do the Co-op and all done with Blizzard Mountain.

Forza Horizon 3Going SupernovaThe Going Supernova achievement in Forza Horizon 3 worth 98 pointsGet every possible star at Blizzard Mountain.

Other games that I've been playing that I havn't completed this month - Wolfenstein the old blood (which I've completed as much as I intend to) which I enjoyed, not as much as the New Order but sill I think a pretty solid shooter (especially the early levels). Apart from that, I"ve also been playing some Defense Grid 2 - working towards the 100 gold medals achievement (I'm somewhere around the 35 golds I think so a fair few to go). And then I've started a few games, some of which I expect to make the completed list next month (Uncanny Valley, Narcosis)

Completed this month and putting me at 66.7% of my goal for the year (against 56% of actual time) so plenty of scope left for completions. Also having finished my previous goal with 6 months to go, I've doubled down to go or a further 40K TA score by end of year - currently the average is 170 per day and I'm slightly ahead of target. Now onto the completions:

Pneuma: Breath of life: Another walking simulator that has a narrative of the walker being a character and realising he's being played by the player (attempting to break the 4th wall). Uses the Unreal 4 engine to good effect and at least there are puzzles in this walking game compared to some of the other ones - including a one that is a bit clever. Overall better than the other games of this genre that I've played. (Dear Esther, Memories of him)

The Bunker Kind of interesting realtime video game but also very very linear. Some of the achievement collectables are very tricky to see. You can watch the story and then click in the only place to make the story move forward so in that regard, its a bit simple.

Active Soccer DX Reminiscent of the great 80's soccer games, KIck Off and Sensible Soccer. Totally and utterly unlike Fifa / PES and at least as much fun to pay. Active Soccer is a true retro game - no licnesed player names so you get classics like "mussi, neighmar, swaress" and London North, London West and Spain Capital as team names. However, and there is a little grinding to get the 100 wins and goals" its fast moving, smooth to pick up, you can score some great long range goals with lovely aftertouch control and actually a lot of fun to play.

Toby: The secret mine: which is visually similar to Badlands in that it has black and white characters and coloured backgrounds and is a former mobile game. Graphically its quite distinctive even if spotting the character from the foreground sometimes is a little challenging. The platform levels are good, not too easy and not too difficult (although a couple of levels are very challenging and well designed). Its not overly difficult, although getting all the friends can be also be challenge (I missed one and had to repeat 14 levels till if found him) but a quick and fun little game.
