2014: Too Much of A Nice Guy? You be the Judge.
Hi There,

My first blog on TA. 2014 is coming to a close and I can much say, I'm not leaving it on a high note. I've had my moments within the year, but this disconcerting news has gotten me on the bitter end.

Back in Dec. 2013, with the launch of the new Xbox One, I had preordered two systems. I was very fortunate to get two from saving up enough of my hard earned cash. I remembered that preordering was made unavailable earlier than Dec. You had to reserve/preorder months prior. Anyways, when my Xbox one day one edition came, i was ecstatic. The one i ordered from Best Buy came right on time. The one from Dell (standard edition) took a month later to arrive.

When it did arrive, I had no use for it. I was using the 2nd Xbox One to see if i can sell it on ebay to make it seem as if i didn't pay much for the first one. I had this "friend" of mine, which i have known through gaming and boosting sessions on TA for 3 to 4 years? Detr0itz Pr1nce
He's a solid/decent guy I thought at first. We've had sessions and random party chats. I told him about my situation with my 2nd Xbox One. He really wanted to Xbox One, and since it's sold out everywhere, he'd like to get a hold of one before Christmas. The nice guy that I am, I told him, that he'd can just get it off of me for $500.00. So, instead of selling the Xbox One on ebay, I told him I'd sell it to him.

We were speaking about payment options. Paypal would be the preferred method. He mentioned, he won't send money until I've sent him a confirmation number. His quotes exactly were: "You don't know me, and I don't know you." I went along with it. Yeah sure why not.

He sent me $250.00 the following day after I've sent him the confirmation. I said "Whoa!, Where's the rest?" He mentioned he had monetary troubles. I was like alright. Two weeks go by, I get $50.00. Two months later, I receive $100.00 ($50.00 payments within the month). Now here's when the games of lying and deceit begin. March, I believe it was, he says he's hit rock bottom. He has money issues, and then he's has become unemployed. So with $400.00 paid, I'm wondering to myself, am I ever going to see this final $100.00. I gave him some "loooong time", I'm talking about several months to have his financial situation taken care of. He promised as soon as he'd get a job, the first thing he'll do is pay me back.

I've had my fair share of financial troubles, which I'm not going to get into detail. I've had a temporary cellphone and didn't have internet for months. I was able to get online through my friend's cellphone or if I went to a friend's house, i'd use their internet.

So I'd message and call Detr0itz Pr1nce from time to time to see how's he doing. I go on True Achievements and my Xbox live page, only to find activity logs, that says Detr0itz Pr1nce has unlocked achievements for this brand new released game. If you're financially broke, why are you buying new games on release dates? Call of Duty Ghosts if i wasn't mistaken. Then in the summer, there was a blog on the reading rainbow's kickstarter. I wasn't stalking Detr0itz Pr1nce, but was reading on the wonderful project that reading rainbow has been doing. I read through everyone' s comment and saw:

Detr0itz Pr1nce: I grew up watching this show. I wonder is there a way I can throw money at this. Time to start doing some searching.

Reading Rainbow Coming to Consoles

If he has money to throw their way and on new games, why isn't he paying off the debt? So this is when I called him. I said hey Detroit, "congrats on the new job". He sounded surprised. "Yeah man.", he replied. I said "When do you think you can pay me?"
He said in "two weeks". I said ok, hung up and that was it. I didn't raise my voice and was very patient with him. This was our typical short conversations.
Two weeks later, I called back, "hey did you send it?"
He replies, I'll do it this afternoon. Nothing.

I didn't even try to harass him for the money. Waited a "couple of days". Some times, I'd just let a month or two pass by. So around September, I get this message from Paypal saying my account has been limited. I'm not going to get into detail on why that happened but I had a friend at work who is nice enough to help me out of this situation. I gave Detr0itz Pr1nce this guy's email about a dozen times. I'm going to switch that to multiple times. Each time we've communicated, I'd always have to remind him about the payment. I keep getting the same excuses.

"You'll get it in two weeks." Always, the same answer. NOTHING. It's somehow always my fault that i didn't remind him to pay me.

I've been reminding you for a whole year!! I've reminded you on days you were going to make payment, but you can never seem to take 2 minutes out of your time to enter an email and an amount? And when you did say you've sent something, nothing appeared in my friend's account. And then when i text a screen shot, you reply back a week later to say the funds were bounced back, which leads me to believe that funds were never sent to begin with. You get an a quick alert from Paypal when something is wrong.

So, Dec. 26th comes around. I'm wondering where's my money at. We have our usual short conversation. Something in me snapped, I've finally called him out saying:

"That's foul man. I've been very patient my man. I've waited a whole year. I've kept getting promises that funds were being sent. I gave you the email like ten times. I even did 2nd day rush delivery at no additional charge so you'd get it for Christmas last year. Hell I didn't charge you tax. You don't respond back? What's going on? Just give me the truth so that I know I got conned and we'll move on"

There's more to the texted statement above. He never responded back or tried to communicate after that confrontation. He removes me from his friend's list on xbox live.

So, the lesson learned here, is that I got lies on top of more lies. And you can't really trust "good" people out there. I'm going to bite this one and be more careful in the future. Can't be a nice guy as well, because people will take advantage of you. Even the closest ones to you.

Thank you for the lesson 2014.
