2018 - A Recap
So, 2018 was a different year for me. To recall, 2016 & 2017 were my first years with the Xbone, and both of which featured a 50K+ GS total (context: the years prior to the Xbone had totals of less than 10K for 2014 & 2013, 2015 was only over 20K because I got the Xbone in October & went on a spree once I got it).
I entered this year with ambitions of doing the same (50K+ GS) for the 3rd straight year. That dwindled in April, and then all but disappeared in May, and I went 4 straight months (May-Aug) without a single achievement. :/
I'm not quite sure what changed for me this year, I certainly had games to play (including many easy 1K games in my backlog), but the summer months, I dunno, gaming just fell by the wayside, and I found myself only playing games that weren't GS-focussed (Rocket League & RB4 being the staples for me throughout the year).
One notable thing: I entered this year with a *lot* of games in my backlog, so I decided in January 2018 to go the full year without buying a single game. I managed to stick with this, though with two caveats:
1) I did buy DLC for a few games throughout the year (Rock Band 4 songs, AC DLC, and a few others)
2) I signed up for Game Pass in October, and did play some new games in there (Forza 4 most notably)
I've already blown the whole "don't buy any games for the year" thing this year (Batman: Return to Arkham on sale for only $7, how could you go wrong?), but it was an interesting experience to go an entire full calendar year without buying a single video game (so many sales I passed on....). I did make a small dent in my backlog, though I still have a lot of easy 1K's sitting there. But the consequence of the restriction on buying new games mean that I finished 2018 with a 100% completion rate, including a few games that have been on my card for some time (RB4 becoming my new most proud completion).
In any case, looking forward to 2019. Don't really have any goals going into the year, but we'll see what happens.
