This is where I used to live.
I used to live a few blocks from where those two men are kayaking down Braeswood Boulevard in Houston. There's a bayou right behind where our apartment building is. I lived on the second floor. I can only imagine what the bottom floor is like.
The men's heads are up to the stop sign. Think about how high that water is. Now imagine that, as I'm typing this, Houston is forecast for another 31 inches of rain on top of that.
31 inches. Over 2 1/2 feet. More.
I used to look at maps of the 100-year flood plain in Houston. That was before Hurricane Ike in 2008, which was bad in that we lost power for two weeks. It didn't approach the 100-year flood mark. One forecaster today called this a 500-year flood.
I can't imagine this. To all my friends back in Houston, which I miss and love so much, please be safe and careful. I hope I hear from you soon.
God save Houston.
