Permalink#100k Challenge - Day 16 update
Well another four days down so another post with my progress. In theory my plan over the past four days was to get Gears of War 4 started, 100% complete Tomb Raider: Underworld, get my house in perfect order and start running. In reality what happened was not start Gears 4 - but start a lacrosse game, didn't even complete the second stage of Tomb Raider. My marathon career is a none starter as its far too cold still and my house still looks like a bomb has hit it. To be fair I do have 3 kids and 2 dogs so keeping on top of it all is an endless wave but I love the challenge.

What have I been playing?

Like I mentioned I started Casey Powell Lacrosse 16 - now we don't play this sport in the UK at school so was quite foreign to me (I had only ever heard it from American Pie as Stifler played it at high school). I didn't, and still don't quite understand the rules of the game but I am actually enjoying playing a different kind of sports game for a change. Reviews online seem to quite positive and I am sure that once i get my head around the rules/controls properly I will try to unlock some of the longer achievements in the career mode. I have managed to unlock a few achievements already and as these weren't in my January plan are all extra points.

Van Helsing is still a game I have been playing the past few days and I have managed to unlock most of the quick achievements as well as finishing the main story. Next stage for this is to complete again on the hardest setting (called Fearless....so might be a while).

Spends £££

Purse strings have been kept tight since the start of the challenge but over the last few days I have spent all but £1.39 (remember £25 each month). I needed to buy Xbox Live Gold ready for the start of February and was shopping around when the offer for 6 months Xbox Live Gold for £12.49 was brought to my attention.

This is a great deal (still available) so purchased this straight away, I was going to buy two of them and have the next 12 months covered but this would send me over my budget for the month.

Every Tuesday the Xbox store is updated with sale items so this morning I had a look through to see which games I could pick up that offered quick achievement completion and under £5. I posted on Instagram what I think is the Top 5 for this week. All 5 games were available under £10. After doing this I am left with £1.59 which will just now be carried over to next month.

What else have I been doing?

When I've been gaming over the last few years it has always been in my living room on the sofa. Good for when I have people round but not really great for single player games. My TV is always reflecting the sunlight and using my laptop for guides or watching Netflix at the same time meant I took my eyes of the screen (always a good excuse when losing of course).

So over the last few days I have started making a dedicated gaming area -something that I have wanted to do for years - if you want to see it you can check it out on my Instagram. It is a work in progress but I am very happy with it so far.

What next?
My main target for the next few days is to break the 10k Gamerscore marker - this is higher than my initial target of 9k for January but I think once I have hit this the pressure for the first month is off - I could then maybe actually get round to playing Gears 4.

As always.....

What have I been playing?
Since last time around I have started three new games, Sam&Max: Save the World, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Pac-Man CE DX+. Of these three games I have fully unlocked all achievements for Pac-Man and Brothers. Both easy completions and done in around 3/4 hourss (for both of them combined). Sam&Max is a game I plan on completing over the rest of the month.

I have completed #IDARB as I only needed one achievement (100 points) from the last update and I also finished NBA: Playgrounds - this was a great game and took me back to playing NBA: Jam on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis). The Swapper has also been completed since the last update, I hit another achievement on ROBLOX for a 10 day streak and I have been really getting into Van Helsing III. Unlocking a few achievements along the way!

I also wrote a short review on True Achievements which you guys can check out on my blog (laing1983.co.uk)

Still no money spent - which is a good thing at the moment .I have been planning on what to play in later months and as soon as I have exhausted the Game Pass I may get a little stuck and will need to start buying games to unlock points - although I do have an idea :)

What else have I been doing?
Back to normal in the house now and I leaving my job at the end of last year to work for myself so far seems like it may be the best thing I have ever done. Early days still but I am excited for what the future may hold.

What next?
My target for this coming week is make some more progress with Tomb Raider: Underworld and I have installed Gears of War 4 from Game Pass and I would like to check this out. Not so much for achviements but I havent played it yet.

I would like to try and write a review or another article so if any one has any suggestions for a topic I could give it a go?

#100k Challenge - Day 8 update

So this is the first update I've made in four days and I have to say I am happy with how this challenge is going so far. Gamer score wise I feel confident that I can achieve my target for this month (aiming for 9,000) at the time of writing this I am currently sat at 4,690. Just over half my monthly target with plenty of time to achieve the rest.

What seems to make this all the better is that I have a small following who are keen to see how the challenge goes. This is fantastic as it shows me that people are interested in what I'm doing, which in itself will drive me to keep a certain level of consistency with my updates/posts. Nothing worse than someone saying they are going to do something and then not follow through.

Anyway onto the details.

What have I been playing?

Since the last update I have managed to start a couple of new games. The Swapper and Virtua Fighter 5:Final Showdown. Both of these games are available via Game Pass and both are also easy completions. The Swapper is a platform game with lots of puzzles - a sci-fi setting with a great visuals the puzzles are challenging without being too difficult the game mechanics are a welcome change to the everyday shooter that we are more accustomed too nowadays. If you haven't played this game yet I highly recommend you check it out.

As for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown (backwards compatible) this is everything that you would expect from a high review scoring arcade beat-em-up. Another game which looks great, even for its age now, and although the story mode in this style of game isn't always the greatest or in depth grabbing a mate and playing for bragging rights is always a winner.

State of Play - 08/01/2018

I will start laying this section out as it would appear on my Xbox achievement section.

Games: Total played 9
Roblox: 510/1000
The Swapper: 600/1000
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown: 1000/1000
NBA Playgrounds: 450/1000
#iDarb: 900/1000
Tomb Raider Underworld: 150/1250
NBA 2K17 - The Prelude: 800/1000
Back to the Future - The Game: 200/1000
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III: 30/1000

Total Points: 3040

Still no more money spent. I don't think I will be spending anymore this month so my budget for next month will be £48 - I need to buy Xbox Live again so if anyone know a good place to buy online let me know in the comments.

What else have I been doing?

Kids go back to school tomorrow and I am looking forward to getting back to normal again. Outside of gaming this week I will be getting the house back in order.

What next?

My target for this coming week is to gain an additional 1,000 points. Confident enough that I can do this quite easily. I would also like to find a good deal on Xbox Live Gold (3 or 12 months). I will also have a little more info on the website True Achievements.com - I have mentioned this a few times in previous posts but would like to clarify a few things for people who aren't to quite sure what I keep going on about it for.

#100k Challenge - Day 4 update
Well four full days into the new year, where does the time go ;) Not sure what everyone else's house is like but mine is still not quite back to normal just yet. Kids are still off and although my wife has gone back to work (check out her Instagram) we don't quite have the normal routine in place. Still eating chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That will all change when they go back to school next week.......finally.

My last update was a quick going over of what I did when starting this challenge out. Buying Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass so that I had games to kick start my challenge. Over the last couple of days I have managed to keep relatively on schedule with my target gamer score so far. My plan is to hammer the points early with the vast array of games available so that further down the line when my options are slightly limited I may not need so much. That's the general idea at least.

What have I been playing?

The quick answer to this really is - the same as the first two days. If you have been following along on my social media channels (links at the bottom of the page) I have been posting daily updates of my gamertag with gamer score. The only 'new' game I have played has been NBA 2K17: The Prelude.

As a free game this was an easy completion (TA page) - however at the time of writing this there is one unobtainable achievement.

Due to it now being 2018 an easy 200 points missed but I will keep it installed on my console on the off chance a work around is found. No lost sleep though.

State of Play - 05/01/0218
Games: Total played 7
Tomb Raider Underworld: 150/1250

Back to the Future - The Game: 200/1000

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III: 30/1000

#iDarb: 900/1000

Roblox: 510/1000

NBA Playgrounds: 450/1000

NBA 2K17 - The Prelude: 800/1000

Total Points 3040

I still have spent no additional money so far this month, which was my plan as I can carry the money over to next month when Game Pass will cost me £7.99 and I am looking at purchasing a 12 months of Xbox Live.

What else have I been doing?

Although my range of games has not been vast so far - this is because I have been planning for the rest of January and February too. Looking through Game Pass, I have picked out which games I am aiming to complete over the coming months. This is too ensure I can stay around my target each month, both for costs and gamer score total.

What next?
My aim for the end of week 1 of this challenge is to have a gamer score of around 4,500 - this is half my monthly target and will put me in good standing for the rest of the month.

Permalink#100k Challenge – Update
January 3, 2018 by danlaing1983

On your marks, get set, go.
So I started my 100k Gamerscore Challenge on New Years Day. With my monthly budget set and my target score set it was time to actually start playing some games to get the challenge underway.

First step was to get setup with Xbox Live Gold – and if you manged to catch my post on social media Microsoft were offering the first month for £1. Game pass was also offered at £1 for the first month (usually £7.99). Both these offers were too good to miss and I seemed to time my challenge perfectly as I spent only £2 of my £25 January budget, yet now had access to well over 100 games.

What I’ve been playing
Having just purchased Xbox Live Gold – I had a look to see what was available with Games with Gold this month.

So immediately I downloaded Van Helsing III and Tomb Radier: Underworld. I also grabbed Back to the Future – The Game which was a December GWG title that was still available. Next was to download a couple of free easy to play games ROBLOX and #iDarb. I plan on having some short reviews of these games in the next week.

To help me track all my progress I am using a site called True Achievements – If you have not heard of this site, it is a must for all things achievement related great for tracking which games you have played and which achievements you have unlocked. Guides/walkthroughs are available and are written by the community and they have excellent forums.

With the games downloaded it was time to start playing at the end of day 2 of the challenge I had made the following progress…..

State of Play – 02/01/0218
Games:
Tomb Raider Underworld: 25/1250

Back to the Future – The Game: 85/1000

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III: 30/1000

#iDarb: 800/1000

Roblox: 360/1000

NBA Playgrounds: 200/1000

Total Points 1500
Total Spent £2
