Permalink#100k Challenge - Weekly Update (12/02/18)
[b]Quick Overview

Last week gamerscore: 18,120

Total gamerscore: 23,975

Since the last update - An increase of 5,855

Money spent since last update: £0.00

Total February spend: £23.57

Total Yearly spend: £47.18

Another good week - my highest this year - with an increase of 5,855. More than happy with this total and with two weeks left of this month I have set myself a target of 30,000 by the 1st March. Should be easy to achieve this - but like I have said before my initial target was 9,ooo each month - this score would put me over my original target for the 1st April.

Points gained - but from where?
Signing up to Boomerang Rentals has been great so far - I have managed to complete three full games since I started using the service, thats 3,000 gamerscore so far. Currently I have two more games (Walking Dead: Season 2 & The Wolf Among Us) which I aim to complete by the end of the week (2,000 gamerscore -although I do hope I can finish the first one in the first few days of the week) and once these are done another two games ready for next week.

So since the last update my points have come from:

Back to the Future: +425
Letter Quest: +340
Murdered Soul Suspect: +1000
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments: +1000
Gears of War 4: +5
Limbo: +900
Hue: +1000
Cubot - The Complexity of Simplicity: +1000

Since the last weekly update I have managed four 100% completions on games that I previously hadn't started. I also managed to complete Back to the Future over the weekend and one achievement is still to be unlocked on Limbo (this one is a tricky one to unlock as it involves dying no more than five times throughout a full walkthrough).

What I've been spending?
So far this month I have spent:

* £7.99 was spent on Game Pass for this month
* £1.59 spent on purchasing Cubot (Very easy game when using a guide)
* £13.99 spent on Boomerang Rentals.

The only game I have purchased outright has been Cubot - The Complexity of Simplicity. This game wasn't in the sale it is always available at this price. A very easy completion and it took me around 30mins - using a guide of course.

Leaving me with £1.43 to spend for the remainder of the month - unless I find a really good deal in one of the sales I will unlikely spend this amount.

I have however taken advantage of the Microsoft Rewards deal that is on offer until the end of the month - which I first saw on the True Achievements website (here). This deal was a free month of Xbox Game Pass when joining the Microsoft Reward program, it is 100% free and once enrolled I was sent a code to redeem one free month. I will most likely use this in March but may save it for later in the year.

What next?
Check back tomorrow for my Top Picks from the Xbox Sale for quick/cheap gamerscore. If any one has any ideas/requests that they want me to talk about, maybe a game review then let me know.

I will be posting a review of Boomerang rentals once I have been using the service for around 6-8 weeks. This will give me a good insight into the service so I can let you guys know if its worth your time and money.

As always.....

If you want to keep up to date then follow me on Social Media, share tell your friends add me on Xbox (Gamer Tag - danlaing1983) you can also add me on Mixer - streams coming soon - and of course keep checking back here.

Till next time.

Permalink18,000 gamerscore and counting
Welcome to my weekly update on my #100kChallenge. Another busy week of unlocking achievements. A new source of games, new Games for Gold and some Game Pass completions. Hitting 18k for the challenge so far is a great step and kicks of what I hope is a very good February for my challenge.

Quick Overview

Last week gamerscore: 15,015

This week gamerscore: 18,120

Since the last update - An increase of 3,105

Money spent since last update: £23.57

Total February spend: £23.57

Total Yearly spend: £47.18

Points gained - but from where?
Increasing my score by 3,105 has been another great week. The last two weeks have been just over 3,000. This week I have managed three completions; Rugby 15, Knight Squad and Comix Zone. Managed to complete another episode on Back to the Future (although I missed one achievement so will need to go back to unlock this), and started Letter Quest which is a game I recommended for easy completion with last weeks Top Picks (link is here). However I will add that I didn't purchase this in the sale as it was made available with Game Pass on the 1st February.

So since the last update my points have come from:

Rugby 15: +1000
Back to the Future: +265
Gears of War 4: +35
Knight Squad: +1000
Letter Quest: +130
Comix Zone: +200
Sherlock Holmes: The Devils Daughter: +475

What I've been spending?
As seen above I have already spent my whole monthly budget in the first week. Well first three days to be more accurate.

£7.99 was spent on Game Pass for this month
£1.59 spent on purchasing Cubot (Very easy game when using a guide)
£13.99 spent on Boomerang Rentals.

Boomerang Rentals has taken a huge chunk of my budget (just over 50%), however I do feel that this will be justified. I have signed up for the Unlimited 2 Package. This allows me to rent two games at a time with unlimited rentals per month. Doing this will allow me to rent games to unlock more gamerscore that I may not be able to purchase within my budget. TellTale games being a more obvious source of easy gamerscore, whilst also in the most part providing great games. My aim is to unlock around 20-30k using this service.

What next?

Check back tomorrow for my Top Picks from the Xbox Sale for quick/cheap gamerscore. My aim is to post again on Wednesday regarding a race to 100k with another gamer - I will explain in more detail then. Check back for the next weekly update.

Also should I use the games I have previously downloaded on my old account? This would make the challenge easier but would give for a potential higher score? What's everyone's thoughts on that?

As always.....

If you want to keep up to date then follow my on Social Media, share tell your friends add me on Xbox (Gamer Tag - danlaing1983) and keep checking back here.

Permalink#100k Challenge - January Review
We have made it through the first month of 2018. How did it go for everyone? I fell it went a little quick but it always seems to I guess. Any one actually stick to their New Years resolutions? I tend to not make them but I am happy that the target I set myself for gaming is coming along nicely.

So how have I done? Very well I feel. I set my target at the start of the year picked up Game Pass, planned my first few games and went from there. For anyone who isn't familiar with what I set out to do here is a quick recap.

*Minimum gamerscore of 100,000 by January 1st 2018
*Monthly Budget of £25 per month, money saved each month NOT carried over to following month
*All games played must be playable via Xbox One, ID@Xbox and backwards compatibility only
*Games can be played via Games with Gold, Xbox Game Pass, EA Access, rented or bought as long as within budget

How have I done?
Saying I have done well is all well and good but have I actually got anywhere with the challenge? Was the budget met for the month and what games have been played? That's what this review is for - I have been completing four day reviews (now changed to weekly, every Monday) but this is an overview of the month as a whole. Aimed at anyone who has just joined me on the journey to quickly get up to speed.

Like I've said I feel I have started the year off very well. My initial target was to have around 9,000 gamerscore by the end of the month. Each month the target is 9,000 this would give 108,000 by year end so left a slight buffer along the way. I am happy to say that I earned 15,615 gamerscore. Well over my initial target. A great start to the year!

Games Started
This is a list of all the new games that I have started in the previous month. As this is the first completed month all games I have played will appear on the list. Next month a section will be added for games I have already started but continued to unlocked achievements for. For now though here is the list:

Games Completed
So this list is all for the games that I have 100% completed over the previous month.

#IDARB
NBA Playgrounds
Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown
The Swapper
Pac-Man CE DX+
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Another World - 20th Anniversary Ediotion
Sam&Max Save the World
DreamBreak
NERO: Nothing Ever Remains Obscure
Ben-Hur
Harms Way
I, Zombie
The Fall
Sherlock Holmes: The Devils Daughter

Total Games completed: 15

Best Game played this month
Without a shadow of a doubt the best games I have played this month is Gears of War 4. This month was the first time that I had played the game, not touching it from release. Was simply one that I never got around to playing. Visually the game is stunning - if only I could see this in 4K - wow! The concept in the Gears series has never been the most difficult to learn. Duck and cover, shoot and move. The objectives are very linear so you never lose your way. Although it has been an easy entry to the game - I must admit I haven't played online yet or tried the higher difficulties. I have enjoyed the story and having only played the original Gears of War and Gears 2 when that were first released. I can't wait to finish this and start the series from the beginning.

For the easiest completion I chose Ben-Hur. I had the full 1000 points within an hour as it is a very simple game. Luckily it was free though. One of the worst games I have ever played. You are racing a chariot and have three races - that's it. Whipping or crashing into the other racers during these races. If you are after an easy completion go for that - although you do need to download it from the American Xbox Store.

Best game of the month: Gears of War 4

Easiest completion of the month: Ben-Hur

Jan Spend: £23.61/£25
01/01/18 - Xbox Live 1 Month | £1.00
01/01/18 - Xbox Game Pass 1 month | £1.00
15/01/18 - Xbox Live 6 Months | £12.49
16/01/18 - NERO: Nothing Ever Remains Obscure | £2.00
16/01/18 - DreamBreak | £2.64
16/01/18 - I, Zombie | £1.60
16/01/18 - Another World | £1.28
16/01/18 - The Fall | £1.60

What about next month?
All in all, very good start to the month. Good solid score and stayed within budget. Couldn't ask for a better start.

So I have mentioned already that going forward I will be posting a weekly update every Monday. Keep checking on Tuesday mornings for my top picks of the week for easy gamerscore.

I have spent all my February budget already after one day - details for this will be in Mondays update. Basically though I have signed up to Boomerang Rentals. This is an online rental service which I will be uising over the next few months. I have paid £13.99 and with this I am able to rent two games at a time with unlimted rentals per month. I am hoping to use this to keep my gamerscore high. Also I have a challenger who I need to keep ahead of.

Challenge within a challenge - Challception
I posted on Instagram and was challenged to a race to 100,000 gamerscore. I was challenged by NextHunter321 and of course accepted as I am quite competitive - updates to follow and will be ongoing.

Anyway thanks for reading the first monthly update.

Permalink#100k Challenge - Day 29 update
I hit 15,000 for the month!!

This update on my #100kChallenge is not a four day update as previously seen through the month. Originally I was planning on making then next update on the 1st February and provide a full look at January as a whole but decided to give an update today, Monday. Going forward this will be the new day for a weekly update. The layout is slightly different again. I am always thinking of better ways to provide the updates and today will be no exception.

With this latest update I removed the State of Pay - which listed all games I have played, to put the focus more on just the achievements I have unlocked since the previous update. Due to the ever chagning nature of the site, any feedback is always appreciated. Please let me know if you think I should make changes or even add a section?

Quick Overview

Last week gamerscore: 11,045

This week gamerscore: 15,015

Since the last update - An increase of 3,970

Money spent since last update: £0.00

Total January spend: £23.61

No money spent still. Like I have mentioned in the last few updates this is due to having no real budget left for this month. I will however be having a good look out at the Xbox One Sale tomorrow to see what easy achievements I can get when we hit the 1st February.

Points gained - but from where?
A good increase this past few days of 3,970. Been five days since the last update so I have averaged 794 points per day. A very good ratio as if this was done over the whole year that would be 289,810. Crazy amount. Realistically this isn't going to happen though. Although I can but try :)

So since the last update my points have come from:
Back to the Future: +110
Ben-Hur: +1,000
Gears of War 4: +35
Harms Way: +200
The Fall: +1,000
I, Zombie: +1,000
Sherlock Holmes: The Devils Daughter: +525
LEGO Batman: +100

What else have I been doing?
Dedication to hitting 15k gamerscore for the month has been my main focus over the past few days and I was very happy that I managed it. I have started playing Football Manager when not on the Xbox, simultaneously so I can keep upping that gamerscore.

Outside of gaming this week I have been busy decorating my daughters bedroom, which has finally bene finished. Not the biggst fan of DIY/Gardening. Never been any good at it really.

What next?
With the end of the month coming up, I will be writing a full review of January which will also included my plans for February. Where I plan on getting my points etc. My weekly Top Picks for easy completion will be released tomorrow at 0930 GMT, you can check last weeks out here.

As its the end of the month I will need to pick up another month of Game Pass. The plan is to grab a few games form my Top Picks to get some extra points on the board. I need to research a good online rental service to use with  Game Pass to pick up some more easy completions. I will get a list together and write a review on them also.

Also with any luck I can will be getting the last few bits ready to be able to provide you guys with live streams. Just need to pick up the last pieces of equipment.

As always.....

If you want to keep up to date then follow my on Social Media, share tell your friends add me on Xbox (Gamer Tag - danlaing1983) and keep checking back here. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Permalink#100k Challenge - Day 24 update
To kick off this #100kChallenge update I would just like to let everyone know that I have decided to change the challenge slightly! Determined to keep it relative to my original plan, I will be keeping the budget at £25 a month. To increase the difficulty I will not be rolling over any money saved from previous months. This £25 budget will still need to include Xbox Live Gold - although I am covered until the end of July with that for now. The other change I wanted to make, although not really a new rule as such, was to not limit myself to just hitting 100k gamerscore. I have now set myself this as a minimum but will be aiming for over that - possibly 150k. I have done this as currently after nearly one month I would be on course for around 120k - so just wanted to increase the difficulty level.

So new rules for the challenge:

Minimum gamerscore of 100,000 by January 1st 2018
Monthly Budget of £25 per month, money saved each month NOT carried over to following month
All games played must be playable via Xbox One, ID@Xbox and backwards compatibility only
Games can be played via Games with Gold, Xbox Game Pass, EA Access, rented or bought as long as within budget
Wish me luck and please enjoy the latest update. As always any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Quick Overview
Been a pretty quiet few days if I am honest. However I did manage to break the 10k marker. Then the 11k marker in the last few days. This has set me up for a strong finish to the end of the month. My original plan was to hit 9k gamerscore for this month so I have surpassed that with one week still to go. Undecided to go for broke and try and hit 15,000 for the month or try and complete some games that I am currently putting on a back log - Tomb Raider as an example for this.

I have been playing Gears 4 and really enjoying it so glad I can play this using Game Pass, once I have done the campaign I may venture back through the series. Downloading Fortnite as I type this too. Being a popular game at the moment and well within my budget (Free of course), thought it might be fun to give this a try.

Started anything new?
The only new game that I managed to start since the last update was Nero: Nothing Ever Remains Obscure. If I am 100% honest I was really playing the game for the story, I was simply playing it as it was an easy completion (under 3 hours).

Managed to finish any?
100% completion of Nero since the last update. Nothing else this time I'm afraid. I have been focusing more on playing Gears of War 4 and chipping away at career mode in Casey Powell Lacrosse.

Jan Spend: £23.61/£25
Nothing spent since the last update - this wont change now as I only have £1.39 left in my budget so will just carry this over to next month now. Although I am looking on a number of sites and keeping an eye on Xbox Sale items as I may still be able to use this money to pick something up cheap.

State of Play - 24/01/2018
Games: Total played 18
Gear of War 4 - 210/2500
Zombi - 310/1000
NERO: Nothing Ever Remains Obscure - 1000/1000
Casey Powell Lacrosse 16 - 170/1000
Roblox: 955/1000
DreamBreak - 1000/1000
Sam&Max: Save the World -200/200
Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition - 1000/1000
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III: 450/1000
Tomb Raider Underworld: 150/1250
NBA 2K17 - The Prelude: 800/1000
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - 1000/1000
Pac-Man CE DX+ - 200/200
The Swapper: 1000/1000
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown: 400/400
NBA Playgrounds: 1000/1000
#iDarb: 1000/1000
Back to the Future - The Game: 200/1000

Total Points: 11,045

What else have I been doing?
Always trying to improve I have been looking at ways to help grow the page and my social media presence. Few things in the pipeline that I can't delve into too much just yet. One thing that I can say though is that I am looking at live streaming as a next stage to getting people involved in the challenge. Just getting the last few bits of equipment together and then working out which platform is best to stream on. Twitch or Mixer?? Any help here would be great.

What next?
As I mentioned on a quick update earlier today, I have made a feature which I will be posting every Thursday around 2030 (GMT). The feature is based on news/current events/Xbox news and I will give my personal opinion/thoughts on the subject. First post for this will be up tomorrow.

Next update will be 1st February and will be an review of the month. I will discuss what I plan on playing in the coming months too.

As always.....

If you want to keep up to date then follow my on Social Media, share tell your friends add me on Xbox (Gamer Tag - danlaing1983) and keep checking back here. I have added an Instagram feed to the side of the blog (at the bottom on a mobile device) this is so you guys can see what I am posting and you can add me easier too. Any feedback you have would be greatly appreciated.

Till next time.
