PermalinkGTASC 2018 - Period 42
Hello and welcome to a fresh recap of the GTASC. 42 of 47 periods are in the books so its time to channel your inner secret agent... we only want the best of the best of the best, sir! (With honors) The top 26 Individuals are still working hard and the bot has come back into line with expected maths - meaning 2 members are set for elimination. The Team side is quite spartan with only 15 left. Even with a single elimination per period, its still fairly competitive on that side... though the last minute points are something to watch on both contests!

More big names in the upcoming releases this week so let's dive in!

11-11 Memories Retold is releasing November 9th and will take us back to the days of World War 1. Instead of a combat oriented game as we are used to when dealing with this period typically... this instead covers the story of a non-combatant on each side. Its done in a very artistic method that gives it a painted look. Join in the adventure soon!

Given this is a contest that thrives on cheap easy points - MechaNika is worth mentioning. Its due to hit the store November 9th and is a point and click guaranteed to work without need of patches. Its already been completed... by the developer themselves! They did it in a single day so this $6 title is likely a fairly simple completion.

I hope you like achievements that start with S because 105 of them exist in Spyro Reignited Trilogy. There's been a bit of discussion about the physical release of the game and it seems there are a lot of angry folks over the fact there's a day 1 patch that contains some of the levels of Spyro 2 and 3. Whether or not its due to content being not ready at time of print or some other reason - there will be a sizeable patch day 1. Grab this goodie by Skylanders dev Toy's for Bob on November 13th

This little game called Fallout 76 is also dropping shortly. As much as I'm a fan of the Fallout series - this one is a pass for me. It focuses heavily on base building and oddly has no NPCs. Instead, all interactions will be with actual players. Given my experience with gaming and people in general - I'm expecting most Fallout encounters to involve guns instead of dialog. I can see this being attractive to some individuals but in reality, what I want is a new story - a new narrative. This is not a new Fallout game so much as a Fallout 4 Base Builder Royale. If that's something you are looking forward to, the nuclear codes will be available on November 14th.

Finally, this one caught my eye with its odd name. Youtubers Life is all about building the most successful YouTube channel. If you thought you've seen them all, make room for one more! This take on the sim/management genre will have you searching for fans of cooking, gaming and music. I'm sure this will outsell Fallout 4 so there's no worry it shares the same launch date of November 14th.

174 gardeners are toiling away. 43 just dove in and no one has completed it yet. 499 achievements have been harvested worth 8,410 Gamerscore and 17,391 TA points.

There are only 4 battles in the main event left - and 2 of them have already been decided.
erod550 has won their match against Ace Phoenyx II (20 to 19)
MattiasAnderson has won their match against Yinga Garten (20 to 3)

Chefmole is leading in their match against Silver1337 (19 to 17) and it looks like #20 is a grind in Gears 4.
Buffalo of Lies is leading in their match against TA LFWinner2016 (19 to 16) with #20 being a relatively difficult achievement in Chariot. Its only a 20.98 laugh

Not too many weeks left to claim anything you have interest in wink

  • OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:

With us this week we share some love with both members of <3.
1) What pushed you to 1st place?
iMaginaryy: Mostly ask Sprinky for this one, as I recall we were mostly staying close to the top and then for various reasons Sprink made a great push towards the cutoff which I wasn't available for that time.
SprinkyDink: Near the end of the week we saw that we were pretty close to Roast so we decided to push. I knew they would fight for achieveaholics but not overachiever. They gave me a damn good fight.

2) Did you play anything you'd recommend?
iMaginaryy: For various reasons, yes I'm sure there's recommendations. Nothing in particular really though. It's hard to recommend too without knowing audience because people seem so torn this days.

>Observer is a decent little cyberpunk detective title but has some technical issues, Graveyard Keeper is a cool little Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon/Punch Club management game. Both on Gamepass. Things like Minecraft of course, Telltale going Days Gone Bye. A little bit of COD BO4 Blackout and Pub G. And tons of other smaller, older, or less notable games. Mostly been general points, cleanup, etc. recently.
SprinkyDink: Not particularly a good game but Guts and Glory is fun to play if you played Happy Wheels during class in freshman year of high school like I did.

3) Which game you've played so far this year has stood out to you as a winner? What about it makes it special for you?
iMaginaryy: I'd have to think this one through to be accurate, not sure if anything in particular will come to mind right this moment. Not to mention, there may still be a few coming this year. My favorite games though, to give an idea, tend to be games that set up a great world, environment, atmosphere and lore for a deep singleplayer experience. That or maybe an extremely well made PvP experience.
SprinkyDink: Red Dead Redemption 2 is amazing except I have no time to play it. Olli Olli 2 is a great game to play if you love platformers like I do. Just hit game pass too!

4) Are there any games you are hoping become Backwards Compatible?
iMaginaryy: I'd like to see Freedom Fighters actually, which wasn't likely possible for awhile, but at least a BC treatment if not a reboot would seem possible now. I'm sure there's plenty of others, but that's a less popular older one that comes to mind. Too bad my old copy was playstation though :/
SprinkyDink: Dust Force so that Awoo can finally show me that he can complete that game:)

5) What would you call your favorite boss fight of all times? How does it differ from others?
iMaginaryy: Usually it's the really cheesy or bad ones that stick to mind (maybe too many B horror movies). Halo 5 and Resident Evil 4 come immediately to mind. I'm not even sure RE4 was that bad, I just remember people talking about it. I'm sure there's plenty of other good ones too though. FF7/FF8 come to mind, for an example.
SprinkyDink: Smough and Orenstein from Dark Souls 1. I remember being stuck on that boss for the first run of my game for hours. You kill one of them and the other gets super powered. Pro tip - Kill Orenstein first.

6) If forced to play only 1 genre for a year, what would you pick and why?
iMaginaryy: I don't think I could because I like variety, but it would probably have to be FPS/TPS (especially FPS) just because I'd still be able to do decent single player games but mostly because I'd be able to play certain games with my buddies online and that just seems like it has better longevity than most others. Other choices would be STG, fighting, MOBA, and racing (especially sim racing).
SprinkyDink: Originally I was going to say platformers which are probably my favorite genre. Instead however I think I would have to say RPGs. I would love to play the Witcher 3 again.

7) Are there any games you've added to your tag solely because of the GTASC? Would you say you play differently when in competitions than when not competing?
iMaginaryy: Yes and No. I originally became interested in GTASC years ago because it mostly fit my playstyle anyway. My main thing is just to experience to some degree as many games as possible, especially good games or games in my genres of interest. So i'll play just about anything, with any rule set - points, ratio, easy completion etc. That said, going forward I'll likely be taking a break from easy points after this year and focusing on better, more enjoyable, longer games and cleanup.
SprinkyDink: Any 1 hour game is solely because I am in GTASC.

8) Now that Red Dead has made its appearance, is there anything else you are looking forward to seeing release?
iMaginaryy: Definitely the Spyro remake, as that's one of my favorite games of all time. Atomic Heart looks intriguing and up my alley as well. Also Metro Exodus, of course. I'm sure there's others, I'll add if they come to mind.
SprinkyDink: I have been waiting for Bloodstained Rituals of the Night for YEARS. I am also dying for the multiplayer update for Stardew Valley.

9) Do you prefer single player experiences or multiplayer ones? What about that style of play keeps your interest?
iMaginaryy: I prefer a balance of both, historically and ideally. I'll usually play some PvP either entering solo or with groups of friends, and when the attention/fun wavers a bit I'll jump over to preferably a good atmospheric solo experience (or historically, for some points). I suppose if I had to choice one, my answer may have changed over the years. Not sure I could live with just one heh, but it probably would used to have been multiplayer games like Counter Strike, but now I think I'd prefer single player games with substance like Bioshock, Alan Wake, etc.
SprinkyDink: I love them both. I have a ton of fun playing an RPG or an Open World game by myself as well as playing tons of battle royale ( Shout out JimbotUk, DanielJJ14, and Imaginaryy carrying me this game because I died early)

10) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
iMaginaryy:

<3 will prevail
SprinkyDink: Good luck to everyone else in gtasc! Cannot wait for the finals!

PermalinkGTASC 2018 - Period 41
Well howdy dudes and dudettes, welcome to the wildest show in the west. Grab yer six shooter and get ready to defend your team (or yourself if you are an individual and not on a team) as we get down to the real personal knockout stage. We are removing the weakest link on the team side each period until semi-finals... and although I'd expect 2 individuals on the chopping block this period, apparently TA has taken up the new math and decided that 10% of 29 is 3. We can roll with it, that's why we have the semi's to cut things down for the finals. For those that don't remember, only 5 teams and 10 individuals will duke it out in Period 47. Period 46 (semifinals) is traditionally a bloodbath as that period will balance out eliminations to prepare for the finals. Assuming we drop to 2 individual eliminations come next period, we'll make a drastic 10 person cut on the Solo side and 7 on the Team. Anyone that survives the ritual bloodbath will then have to use whatever they have left to push once more. Traditionally the finals are more subdued due to how crazy the period before is... and this year will likely continue that pattern. Only 4 weeks of normal play, 1 week of insanity and then the finals to go!

Let's peek at a few upcoming releases. Starting with Shadow of Loot Box which releases on November 2nd has really caught my attention. Featuring tropes that we've come to loathe in a unique way - you can finally enjoy collecting lootboxes and making use of microtransactions. This tongue in cheek game not only seems light-hearted, it may also be easy on the gamerscore and wallet. Ratalaika Games are well known for their simple achievement lists with a low price point. If you are interested in this for the gamerscore or just a fun diversion, we only have a couple more days to wait.

World of Final Fantasy Maxima Achievements is headed to Xbox which I'm sure has RPG enthusiasts psyched. A new journey for us with a brother/sister duo will be available on November 6th. Its a version of World of Final Fantasy with extra features. The original release was well-received and I can only imagine it will do well on the Xbox also. I hope you like chibi ;)

Did you play the Kinect required version of Carnival Games: Monkey See, Monkey Do? It seems we may be getting a gamepad enabled version soon (the cover art is too similar even though its a different developer.) Carnival Games will release on November 6th with 20 mini-games including horses wink for solo or multiplayer use. Up to 4 people can test their carnival skills and trade their tickets for clothes! Wardrobe simulator detected smile

Releasing into Game Pass in November we have GRIP which promises extreme racing action. Looking to combine racing with destruction, players will have access to 17 tracks across 4 planets solo, splitscreen or online. Adding to the destruction is an arena mode as well as 'carkour' runs. I guess parkour isn't just for people anymore. The action starts on November 6th.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:

Xbox One: Overcooked
Xbox One: Victor Vran
Xbox 360: Hitman: Blood Money

November's Games:

Today is the last day of October so make sure you grab Hitman and Overcooked ASAP! Victor Vran sticks around for a while longer.

With hours left to complete your adventures in the Metro... let's see how good our community is at scavenging achievements.

1,467 are changing filters, 1,046 have wiped their mask for the 1st time and 106 have found the truth. 18,870 achievements have been unlocked worth 356,140 gamerscore for 596,328 TA score.

We're looking at only 8 matches now which means we're rapidly approaching the end of this event. There are just over 3 weeks left before the winner for this year is crowned.

Looking at the matches currently running, only one has already been decided:
UHH 4 match up: Ace Phoenyx II vs silver the XII has been decided with a 20-19 score. Congratulations to Ace Phoenyx II who moves onward.

The other 7 are undecided and range from lopsided matches to nailbiters.
UHH 4 match up: TA LFWinner2016 vs Blaizicus was discussed in the UHH forum. It seems that later game achievements were selected which put TA LFWinner2016 at quite a disadvantage.
UHH 4 match up: erod550 vs MidniteDLITE looks like a blowout but as noted in the UHH forums one member was effectively preloading their achievements for this week. It may be one to watch as the clock ticks down.
UHH 4 match up: RavN PickNMix vs Buffalo of Lies and UHH 4 match up: Ranga Dang Dang vs Chefmole are both 17-10 right now. Anything can change but this late in the game, that may be too much to return from.
UHH 4 match up: MattiasAnderson vs Cro11 is a slow burner and quite unusual for Mattias. Not sure if he's taking it slow to prep for future weeks (likely) or just having trouble slogging through the list.
UHH 4 match up: l BlackBrian7 l vs Silver1337 and UHH 4 match up: Wakapeil vs Yinga Garten are great matches to keep an eye on as well. Each is currently being won by only 1 achievement.

  • BONUS RECAP:

Wait what? There are no bonuses you say. You are quite correct. Now that we've hit the end of the bonuses I figured it would be interesting to return to the most and least won bonuses of each contest. I'll include all the data as well for anyone that's interested in diving deeper.

The least won bonus for the Solo side was Party Like Its... with 7.57% of the eligible gamers winning it. This is probably due to a few 'perfect storm' events coinciding. For starters, this was the first bonus of the year and with the folks that join events for the sake of joining events still very much in it (there weren't any eliminations yet...) and the specific nature of the bonus (2018GS was not only well more than required for survival, it required a funky GS value if you didn't go insane with points.)

The most won bonus for the Solo side was interestingly enough one that ACA NeoGeo games made a cinch... that being Bonus Soda. Finding an achievement an achievement with the word 'bonus', 'badge' or 'mark' in it isn't very hard when every single ACA game has an achievement called
ACA NEOGEO NEO TURF MASTERSMark high scoreThe Mark high score achievement in ACA NEOGEO NEO TURF MASTERS worth 82 pointsHigh score has been updated.
. I ended up handing out a cosmetic bonus to anyone that was able to accomplish it without resorting to an ACA title. Still, 90.22% is a solid chunk of the eligible players at that time (92).

Solo Bonus data:
External image

The least won bonus for the Team side was Deja Vu which was also a very specific bonus. It asked teams to score the same amount of GS and achievements as they did the period before. Even with it being the least won bonus on the Team side, it doesn't come close to the low win percentage on the Solo side. In the end, 21.74% of eligible teams were able to match their previous work.

The most won Team bonus shouldn't be a surprise if you've been following that side the last few weeks. When the Raise the Bar bonus came out this late into the contest, it was nearly assured everyone would win it. It would take serious bonus use to survive and not win it... which is exactly what happened to 1 team. 95.24% of teams (as in, 20 of 21) were able to break 10K TA.

  • OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:

With us this week we have both members of Shadow Hearts as well as HolyThugRabbit who has been running wild on the Solo side.
1) What pushed you to 1st place?
HolyThugRabbit: Decided the week before that I wanted to give it my best shot.
Kugare: Minecraft.
Vacilia: Minecraft :)

2) Did you play anything you'd recommend?
HolyThugRabbit: Not really.
Kugare: Earthlock.
Vacilia: No

3) Is your collection physical or digital now?
HolyThugRabbit: Moved 100% over to digital now on the Xbox one.The disc drive on it have broken down and cant be bothered to fix it. For the 360, I get what is the cheapest option.
Kugare: 80% digital and 20% physical.
Vacilia: Much more digital, but still love Special Boxes with figurines etc

4) Would you say you play any differently in competitive events than when not competing?
HolyThugRabbit: Definitely. Trying to stay away from games that takes to long to complete. Play much more small and quick games.
Kugare: Absolutely. I feel forced the play the NEOGEO crap or other fast and easy games and i stop to play games that need to long to be completed, no matter how good they are. Sometimes i play games like that if my team is many points above the drop as a kind of reward. I ignore games like the new AC or RDR 2 as example. With the elimination i have my freedom back to play what i want, how long i want... without caring about the TA amount. Usually i have no problem to change my playstyle in the later months of the year, but this year was not easy at all. But don't get me wrong. I still love the contest and i have fun to survive with my team each week. It gives achievements a temporary value to me and it's a good feeling to scan an achievement with a high TA amount.
Vacilia: Absolutely, I would not start anything like AC at the moment. Only short games.

5) What is your favorite Xbox 360 game?
HolyThugRabbit: Geometry Wars 3, Super Meat Boy, Astropop or Resident Evil 4. All very different games, so which one is the absolute favorite will depend on which mind set I am in at the current time. Right here and now it is leaning towards Geometry Wars 3.
Kugare: Borderlands, Bioshock, Dark Souls... too many options. I can't decide. If you talking about "exclusives" i would pick Lost Odyssey.
Vacilia: Sacred 2 and the Magic the Gathering Titles

6) What are your thoughts on the GTASC moving from pure TA score to TA Difference? (In short, TA Difference is TA Score - Gamerscore. For the intents of the contest however, it will work as it does currently - meaning the contest doesn't look at individual achievements but the TA score and Gamerscore of each contestant each period. Ratio decay will be very painful.)
HolyThugRabbit: If it means that games that can take some work to get done is giving a better reward, then I am all for it. Right now there are just to many super quick and super easy games available.
Kugare: My thoughts? Hmm. I think this will break my neck, but i still like the idea. I'm a completionist and don't start games i can't complete. All players who start high ratio games and grab what ever they can have a better chance to survive + in games with a crazy high ratio even some of the easier achievement have a high ratio most of the times. I'm not going to start games for contest i would usually never touch and i'm pretty sure my team will be eliminated earlier than ever before... but i'm okay with that.
Vacilia: can't really say, at least it will be very interesting to see the development over the next GTASC, which games will be chosen etc. But I will be out soon in that run for sure I guess.

7) Do you find the badges and bonuses worth targeting? Do you think they offer too much of an advantage?
HolyThugRabbit: bsolutely. Had so much fun trying to pick up the different badges each week. No I do not feel they offer to much of advantage for the majority of the contest. It have just been a safety net for many people when they may have had few games to play, been busy with other things, etc. It may however have a big impact on the finals though. Where who ever have the most badges unused will have a great advantage.
Kugare: I think 2k is too much value for a bonus, 1k should be enough. I'm also not a huge fan of the badges, especially the "that was easy", "that was close" and "achieveaphobia" are nothing that should have an reward. What's the point of giving a nearly dead team another bonus just to survive a little bit longer in the next round? Also having an extra bonus for getting the bagde twice in a row is something i don't like. With a wide range of badges/boni it's harder to predict which team is going to be eliminated. To say something positive about this topic: I like the challenges bonuses brings into the contest. Working as a team to obtain a specific goal can be fun.

Another suggestion for the bonus system are just different values: Bonuses earned from a bonus week = 2000 TA, Badges like Overachiever = 1000 TA, Badges like That was easy = 500 TA.
Vacilia: The bonuses are very interesting and keep you going, the badges are too much in my opinion, this was my first active GTASC and I saw a lot of teams with tons of bonuses. 2k per bonus are too much value, this can shoot you from last position to a high one, leaving teams behind that fought hard, rather than having these just as a last minute save option.

8) What are your thoughts on locking out bonus use before the end of a period? Considering the scoring change, several have proposed we lock use several hours before the end of the period instead of just 1 hour.
HolyThugRabbit: No real opinion here. All I really care about is that it is as close to being as fair as possible for everyone. Even though 100% fair is an impossible task due to all the different time zones. One lock down will always suit someone more than others. That is just the way it is.
Kugare: Great idea. This give teams some more time to fight/react to survive with earned score from games.
Vacilia: That's a great idea *vote* One hour is too close to the end I think.

9) Care to make any predictions for who makes the finals Team or Solo?
HolyThugRabbit: Life is to unpredictable to make these kid of predictions.Things may happen to each individual from week to week. If one get caught up in something in life, then it may have a huge impact on the standings. Same for the team side, if one team mate have a bad scoring week then it can be pretty bad for that team. Think it is hard for one person to carry an team at this point in the competition.
Kugare: Nope. =D
Vacilia: I'd rather say which teams I wouldn't like to see :) so... No.

10) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
HolyThugRabbit: Happy Halloween to everyone!
Kugare: I want to thank all teams and solo players that keeps the contest interesting and shares the fighting spirit. I also want to thank planting42 for all the time and work he already invested in the contest.
Vacilia: Winter is coming.

PermalinkGTASC 2018 - Period 40
Hello everyone and welcome to the circus of recaps! Circus seems like an apt word given it seems I flubbed the interview PMs. I was wondering why I had no messages in my inbox but when I looked... seems there weren't any that went out. We'll reach out to everyone for a mega-interview in the next recap.

Peeking at the upcoming releases, its that time that everyone's been waiting for... Just Dance 2019 is coming out for both X1 and 360. That's right, Kinect ain't dead yet! With all the Just Dance closures recently announced, anyone starting the 360 version may want to get right on it as soon as possible. You can shake yer groove thang on October 26th on your platform of choice.

The game that you probably expected me to lead into is the one that's really been hyped crazy... and that's Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar's new old west adventure is nearly here. Its an epic tale of a nation just starting to grow, Do you want to be a bad guy and be a loyal gang member or do you want to play Mr. Nice Guy? Start your journey October 26th.

For those dreaming of summer in the north (or maybe those in the southern hemisphere who are actually just about there) Super Volley Blast is just what you need to get in the spirit. There are very few volleyball games out there and this one is something you can probably play with your kids (there's an editor I'm sure will be abused) as opposed to some volleyball games wink. Jump in on October 31st.

Also worth mentioning - we're getting an ACA NeoGeo drop on Win10. 5 more titles join the platform and a new one - My Hero One's Justice - lands on the console. If they ever release a 'collection' of all of these, its going to cost an arm, a leg and your firstborn.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:

Available Now:
Xbox One: Overcooked
Xbox One: Victor Vran
Xbox 360: Hitman: Blood Money

Probably a few days still before we hear about November's games.

Nearing the end of Metro month... get your survival on in what has to be one of the least forgiving environments. Stardew Valley won the vote for next month's playlist game so finish scavenging the wasteland because its time to get our farming skills into shape.

1,257 are changing filters, 857 have wiped their mask for the 1st time and 88 have found the truth. 15,716 achievements have been unlocked worth 296,175 gamerscore for 495,156 TA score.

We have 2 more days in the round of 16 with 5 matches already being decided. Things are really heating up now. How are your favorite gamer's handling their lists this year?

  • BONUS RECAP:

The final winners of the final bonus have been determined. The following are master storytellers (or at least have been well versed in a few stories...) and unlocked 20 or more Main Storyline flagged achievements.
Kudos to iMaginaryy for accomplishing the requirements. That elimination line moves fast though...

HolyThugRabbit has completed the arduous task of completing every bonus offered during the solo event. Congratulations!

Not too many weeks left to claim anything you have interest in wink

Hello gamer my old friend
I've come with stats for you again

Its not the sound of silence but the sound of scoring we're looking for here. We'll also peek at the UHH and TA Playlist, recap the Games With Gold (no new announcements yet), see what games are on the horizon, chat with the Overachievers from Period 38 and of course a stat blast for Period 39.

Starting it all off with the new releases for the upcoming week...

Worth noting that Heavy Fire: Red Shadow was discussed last blog but was postponed till October 19th.

Another game that was postponed... Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption Achievements was first planned for an April release. Now releasing on October 18th, this unique action RPG offers 8 boss battles (7 based on deadly sins and 1 more to grow on wink) but the mechanic that sets it apart is that to fight a boss, you level down instead of up. To fight a boss you must sacrifice a stat. This will certainly be a change from the typical RPG when grinding for stats has become a staple. With a dark world reminiscent of Dark Souls to explore, this may be worth sinking some time into!

Fans of the fighter genre will be very familiar with this series and have probably been eagerly awaiting the next installment. SOULCALIBUR VI slashes its way to consoles on October 19th with at least 20 characters at launch and more planned as DLC. Fans of The Witcher will be delighted to have Geralt as a fighter. At least 83 TAers will be psyched for its arrival since 2.8% of the responses to a recent poll about anticipated October releases were votes for this game. Its got a tough slot against Red Dead Redemption 2 but being such different games should ensure this fighter gets the bouts it deserves.

People have been talking about this one since its been announced and i'm sure its a Game of the Year contender for a few of us wink That's right, its nearly time for PAW Patrol: On a Roll to release! if you've got kids or perhaps feel like one some days, this is likely going to be a simple completion. The achievements aren't available yet so we'll have to wait a few more days most likely. 16 adventures in 8 locations will await the PAW Patrol pups. You can get your paws on this on October 23rd.

Speaking of easy gamerscore - this next one is worth keeping an eye on. Its by our new favorite developer - Ratalaika Games who have offered GS on a platter with games like Inksplosion and Super Destronaut. Midnight Deluxe is also the product of the same developer as the 2 games mentioned above so I'm not expecting any surprises. What you will be faced with has been described as arcade golf. Its a poor description in my opinion. The actual mechanics have you selecting a direction and amount of force to apply to yourself then pressing (presumably A) to launch yourself. The goal is to reach a hole in as few 'shots' as possible. Gameplay is not particularly inspiring and overall its a fairly dark game. We'll find out if those 'complete X levels' achievements are cumulative on October 24th.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:

Available Now:
Xbox One: Overcooked
Xbox One: Victor Vran
Xbox 360: Hitman: Blood Money

Metro month continues and that wasteland is a harsh place to live. Hopefully you are well stocked for survival!

977 are changing filters, 667 have wiped their mask for the 1st time and 62 have found the truth. 11,741 achievements have been unlocked worth 219,530 gamerscore for 365,140 TA score.
External image

Knockouts continue and the Just for Fun matches are still just for fun. The round of 32 is nearly complete. We've still got a month to go before the UHH 2018 champion is crowned.

  • BONUS RECAP:

Kudos to the 7 teams that were able to keep their ratio under 1.2 and earn the final Team bonus!
Cookies & Orange Juice
Charlie and the Achievement Factory
Roast House
Would You Kindly Win GTASC 18?
Shadow Hearts
Krazie Aces
Spanish Toreros
Congratulations to Roast House and Charlie and the Achievement Factory for snagging every single bonus on offer throughout the contest.

The final bonus for Individuals and the final bonus overall is...
Tell Me a Story
End the scoring period having unlocked at least 20 achievements flagged 'Main Storyline'

This requires manual scanning so please ensure the achievements are timestamped within the confines of the period itself. Also, its a TA flag based bonus so please be aware that flagging may change at any time. The bonus is scanned for after the period ends so if flagging changes during a period, we have no way to know. Thankfully, the 'Main Story' flag is probably the most static flag on site.

Spiderwebs grow here.

  • OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:

Roast House is in the house again and peeking at the leaderboard from the period that just ended... they seem to have an agenda on top! Without further ado!
1) What pushed you to 1st place?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: Noting special. A combination of planning and opportunity.
l306l PoRkRoAsT: Nothing in particular, I wanted to get rid of some of my backlog and free up some space on my hard drives.

2) Did you play anything you'd recommend?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: Last period was a blur. I played a lot of video games in the last few hours of the period. They all sort of blended together. If there was the opportunity to find a gem, my eyes were not open to it.
l306l PoRkRoAsT: Nothing that really stood out to me. Although I do believe that Snake Pass is worth a look if you haven't checked it out yet.

3) What is your favorite in-game weapon?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: Easy: FarSight XR-20, circa Perfect Dark. Zangief’s lariat cyclone on Street Fighter IV is in second, only because without it, completing that game would have been even more difficult than it already was.
l306l PoRkRoAsT: Thundergun in Black ops 3 zombies. That gun has gotten me out of trouble many, many times.

4) We're seeing lots of classic consoles reappearing as mini versions of themselves. Do you think there's a market for a mini original Xbox?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: With the market being essentially 100% digital, my gut tells me Microsoft would be better off investing their capital in licensing and re-mastering titles that conjure up feelings of nostalgia; however, my expertise in the field of marketing is exactly zero, so they can take that advice for what it is.
l306l PoRkRoAsT: I would imagine there would be some kind of market. I don't think I would be interested in it. My game collection is mostly digital these days and would appreciate more retro game releases through the Microsoft store as apposed to a new console.

5) Has anything stood out to you as game of the year yet or are you waiting to see how Red Dead 2 fares?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: With GTASC 2018 playing such a large role in my video gaming, Xbox ID titles started to take over sometime this summer. I don’t think that I am the one to ask.
l306l PoRkRoAsT: Definitely waiting on Red Dead 2, I dont really see how it went get my vote for GOTY but I'll wait and see.

6) Which achievement do you feel was the hardest for you to unlock? What did it take to pop it?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: Street Fighter IV’s Unbeatable Fist took a ton of practice and dedication. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was a more difficult game, but as a single achievement, Unbeatable Fist takes the title.
l306l PoRkRoAsT: Unbeatable Fist in Street Fighter 4. Did it with a controller instead of buying a fight stick and some of those combos are ridiculous on a controller.

7) Is there any game you've yet to acquire but really want to add to your collection? What is it and why do you want it so badly?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: Not that I can think of. There are a few games that possess an unobtainable achievement, such as Badland: Game of the Year Edition that I would love to play with my tag, but am unwilling to compromise my unblemished gamer tag for.
l306l PoRkRoAsT: I think I'd like to get my hands on one of the early (1-3) Mega Man X SNES cartridges, but they are a little pricey. I dont really have a reason why I want it be a use you can play all the X games one the one but I think it would be cool to say you had one.

8) How do you feel about stacking games (playing platform or regional variants for additional gamerscore)?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: Given the context and parameters of this year’s competition, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I am strongly supportive of the concept. :)
l306l PoRkRoAsT: I have done it in the past and have no problem with it, although I do find it extremely boring to play the same game to completion over and over again but I will never turn down easy gamers core.

9) Given the chance to play any game you desire - what would you choose?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: The answer would change at least weekly. Right now, I am feeling like either Super Mario RPS: Legend of the Seven Stars, or The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker.
l306l PoRkRoAsT: I guess I'll say COD BOT zombies, we played the hell out of that game and had a blast getting all the achievements and I love the co-op aspect if that mode. It's one of the few games in my recent memory that I played after I had all the achievements, I maxed all guns and got max level before I finally stopped playing it.

10) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
l306l DaRkRoAsT: Good luck in the last two months to everybody who still has a pulse in this competition.
l306l PoRkRoAsT: Nope.

PermalinkGTASC 2018 - Period 38
Hello everyone and welcome to the beginning of the end. That's right, we're now looking at single team and triple solo eliminations. Our final Team bonus is currently up for grabs and the final Solo one will be offered next period. Are you one of the few who was able to collect every one to date?

Let's dive into some of the upcoming releases for the next week. There's quite a few big names we'll mention but also some gems that may be fall under the shadow of Blops.

First off, yes, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is releasing on October 12th with no single player mode but a tacked on Battle Royale mode since everyone loves those. Another yearly run n gun is about to hit the shelves.

Warriors Orochi 4 is a must play for anyone that's a fan of the Hack n Slash games KOEI puts out. With 170 playable characters, this promises to be quite immersive featuring members of Dynasty Warriors as well as Samurai Warriors. Grab your blade on October 16th.

If you are a builder by trade or have kids in your house, this one is for you! What could those two groups possibly have in common? LEGOS! LEGO DC Super-Villains will make its way to consoles on October 16th as well.

Looking a bit deeper at a few other gems that deserve recognition as well we have the newest addition to the Toys to Life genre - Starlink: Battle for Atlas. This is something that ticks all the right boxes for me. Its a large world designed by Ubisoft and in my opinion they are damn good at creating interesting worlds and stories. It includes lots of customization that of course aren't needed but I'll end up buying anyway. Its also a space game... and well, I'm a sucker for anything set in space. Its time to move the Skylanders into storage and make space (until the kittens find them...) for some new figurines. The battle begins October 16th.

If you remember the title Heavy Fire: Shattered Spear and enjoyed the world that was being crafted... you may want to look into Heavy Fire: Red Shadow which is the newest addition to the FPS on rails experience. The video isn't anything that looks to push the envelope of graphics but it could be some mindless fun. You are always locked in place and blast away at stuff in a 360 degree field of view. If you've played Blast 'em Bunnies, its basically that but with somewhat realistic environments. You can make your mark on October 16th.

Anyone who has friends over and enjoys a good party game - or perhaps just easy gamerscore against a few browser tabs... The Jackbox Party Pack 5 is out shortly. The most important change from previous Jackbox packs... COOKIE MASTERSON! That's right, the announcer that rocketed to fame thanks to You Don't Know Jack is back! Insult your friends on October 17th.

Of note, Stranded Deep was pulled from marketplaces due to the Telltale fiasco. They are intending to release but are now in limbo while figuring out if Telltale will be able to publish or if they can find another publisher.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:

Available Now:
Xbox One: Livelock
Xbox One: Overcooked
Xbox 360: Stuntman: Ignition

Available October 16th:
Xbox One: Victor Vran
Xbox 360: Hitman: Blood Money

We've wandered the wastelands of New Vegas in previous months but this month we're experiencing Metro 2033. Its quite a difference experience than the Fallout series and much more survival oriented. The series doesn't get the same marketing as Bethesda can muster but it certainly should be experienced. Its available on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One so its available and stackable.

629 are changing filters, 422 have wiped their mask for the 1st time and 26 have found the truth. 6,258 achievements have been unlocked worth 116,450 gamerscore for 193,850 TA score.

Knockouts continue and the Just for Fun matches seem to have been remedied. We're in the round of 64 so there's still many many more good fights to watch as the event continues.

  • BONUS RECAP:

Here's the Individuals that can spell (and won the 'THIS IS NOT SPARTA' bonus):
If you want to look at the winning achievements used and don't mind waiting for it to load (it takes a long time!) here's that page:
SPELLIN'

This period the Teams are offered their final bonus of the event and its going to require some attention if anyone is looking for the complete set. They are tasked with 'On the DL' which requires the team ratio to be under 1.2 which basically means easy peasy game week or hopefully you have some decay you are fighting. This is the week its a good thing to have decay.

Spiderwebs grow here.
