PermalinkGTASC 2017 - Period 31
Howdy and welcome to a recap of what's happening around TA and Xbox. We'll be looking at Leap Frog, the TA Playlist, Games with Gold and of course, the Overachievers from Period 29 and of course the stats for the period we just finished.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:
Available through the end of the month:
X1: Slime Rancher
Marketplace Link
X1: Cobalt ** This game is GWG in Japan this month instead of Slime Rancher. You can 'buy' it via the link below for free.

360: Red Faction: Armageddon

Available thru September 15th:
X1: Trials Fusion
Marketplace Link

Life Is Strange (and its 360 variant) was chosen by the community for a grand runthrough. Hopefully you've had the chance to play it either when it came out if not now with along with the other TAers.

Here's what we've done so far:
1,452 gamers have been snapping pictures. 641 started it and 312 finished it. 22,676 achievements have been unlocked so far worth 383,665 gamerscore and 499,819 TA. We've got half the month to go so you can certainly get in on this if you want.

Voting is underway for September's playlist. The choices are:
Dark Souls
Mafia III
Mirror's Edge Catalyst
Need for Speed

See more on them here:
Vote Now for September 2017's TA Playlist Game

  • LEAP FROG:
Year 3 of this hopping event is underway. Of this year's 1,758 entrants, we've now eliminated 1,343. That's right, only 416 remain. Today is quite the leap. 3 achievements of 4.0 or higher ratio are required to pass. You can hop to the hub here: Leap Frog 2017

  • BONUS RECAP:
13 Individuals won the 'Lowrider' Bonus for ending the period with a ratio of 1.1 or lower.
*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***
The Team bonus on deck is 'Make Me Cry' which requires the team ratio to be at least double that of the previous period.

No new winners.

The poll I recently had up asking about other scoring criteria for a GTASC like event was pretty mixed - with the winner being the only statistic that's really not implemented into TA - that being Standardized Score. Standardized Score means this: Each achievement is worth 10 gamerscore instead of whatever it is normally. The TA ratio for that achievement is then applied to it. You can find your standardized score on your Statistics page near the bottom. To my knowledge, that's the only place you can find it.

  • PERIOD 29 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
Sitting down with us this time are all 6 of our Overachievers from Period 30. The Solo Champion - v CARRNAGE as well as the Team Champions - The Godz Reborn.
1) What pushed you to 1st place this period?
DeAtHisLaNd: We wanted to stack the most achievements badge and at the last minute we decide to go for the first place even if the first team was almost 5,000TA ahead of us. I didn't sleep that night and was able to score 3,500 TA so I think it help the team to make a push Sunday morning.
JORAX: Pure, unadulterated awesomeness from my teammates.
K4rn4ge: In this period, since we knew we had to go for the alphabet bonus, we were already planning on unlocking a lot of achievements so we aimed for most achievements which subsequently helped with most TA as well. These factors pushed us to first place this period.
Momie: We were mostly going for most achievements but unlocking all those achievements kept us near the number one spot all week. Conquistaria put up a good fight but we saw an opportunity to grab the lead in the final minutes of the week and we went for it!
Ow Nitram: We were playing as always for the alphabet bonus but as we woke up sunday morning, we saw an opportunity and we had DLC/Title update still untouched (I had Goat Simulator 360 DLC in my backlog personally) so, why not? In the end, it was worth it and we took the top spot to streak it another week! Nice job everyone!
v CARRNAGE: Well I've been trailing behind the bonus leader for the last couple periods first place and achieveholics pushed me just passed him. I'm sure I wont hold onto it for long though this and period 31 will be my only tries for first and achieveholics.

2) Did you play anything interesting?
DeAtHisLaNd: Telltales Walking Dead Michonne , it's one of my favourite Telltale Games now ! Although it's really short, I had fun playing it and I'm looking forward to start ''A New Frontier'' soon !
JORAX: I can't really say that I did - just a bunch of stuff for a bunch of achievements.
K4rn4ge: Two standout games I played this period were Dungeon Defenders II and Conga Master. I loved and completed the original Dungeon Defenders on XBLA and was hyped for the sequel which recently came to Xbox One as a f2p game. It's one of the most fair f2p games I played and does NOT feel pay-to-win. The DD2 launch was pretty rough with crashing / server / login issues but once they patched the game, it was great. They also made it up to people by giving free rewards as compensation. Everyone should check out & download this game! The other game I played, Conga Master, I didn't like at first. However, once I understood the mechanics, it was surprisingly enjoyable and addictive. I ended up completing the game and actually was left wanting more! Fingers crossed for new DLC / achievements :)
Momie: This time, yes! Voodoo Vince remastered was very fun. I hadn't played the original but I was pleasantly surprised by the remake. The game is funny and it's good platforming. Only the last boss is a pain because of the less-than-ideal "checkpointing" of the fight. You can go through a 8-10 minute sequence and have to do it all over again if you mess up... Grrr.. But recommended nonetheless! I also really liked Ninja Pizza Girl. Looks like the game was made by a single family which is impressive. It also tackles issues like bullying and self-esteem which is quite refreshing to see in a world where many video games are about violence and murder.
Ow Nitram: I like to play new releases asap and this week was Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, huge fan of the Blue Bomber. Got the 1000G, had a great time on the game replaying MM7, MM8, MM9 & MM10, amazing classics, fun & challenging. I know it’s mainstream to hate on Capcom but they still doing decent games and have many classics, so yeah, they still one of my favorite companies. I also played a bit of Overwatch with the new character and the Summer event. I definitely did not play NHL 18 because my team would not have like that laugh
v CARRNAGE: Aaero. Fun little game highly recommend. Also recommend not trying to complete Hopiko like I did. Unless of course you have a spare controller that you wouldn't mine throwing into a wall.

3) How would you describe your ideal game?
DeAtHisLaNd: Geometry Wars game with Online Features (Co-op) That would be so awesome.
JORAX: Tough to say. Some combination of RPG, rouguelike, and co-op - and it would have to be endlessly addictive. With some sort of persistent progression system perhaps.
K4rn4ge: My ideal game would probably feature elements from two of my favorite game series - Trials and Geometry Wars! In fact, in Trials of the Blood Dragon they kind of introduced exactly what I wanted but didn't do a whole lot with it - twin-stick shooting while riding on a Trials bike / track. I can only hope that for the inevitable next Trials game they build upon this gameplay mechanic because I really enjoyed the levels that had that. Speaking of Trials, Trials Fusion is now free on Games with Gold so go download it if you don't have this awesome game yet!
Momie: Hmm this is a tough question! I like so many different genres that it's hard for me to settle on one!
I guess the ideal game for me would probably be a single player game with memorable characters and a great story. It also needs to have a good achievement list of course. One that's not impossible to complete and encourages you to try different stuff or play in a way you wouldn't have thought.
Ow Nitram: A mix between Ace attorney & Danganronpa (oh, those 2 games again?). Pretty much everything is perfect in Ace attorney but I think it’s about time Capcom switchs for a First-Person perspective during the “Investigation part” rather than the old point & click static image style just like Danganronpa did (but Danganronpa FP is not flawless).

Mario Odyssey might be the ideal platformer but I’ll have to wait until October!
v CARRNAGE: KINGDOM HEARTS and or anything involving Spider-man.

4) What made you an achievement hunter?
DeAtHisLaNd: It started in 2006 when I unlocked a few achievements in Perfect Dark Zero and a few months later I was renting game to get a High Position on MyGamercard.net (The good old times !) After a few years I was able to get #1 in Quebec and in the Top 5 in Canada and I kinda slow down since 2010 but I've been back on track to do atleast 80,000 a year since last year (Kind of easy with all those easy ID@Xbox games haha)
JORAX: That first "ba-beep!" started it all. Much like coin-based slot machines, that sound seems nearly addictive unto itself.
K4rn4ge: I got hooked on achievements after first playing Hexic and Geometry Wars. Had no idea what those popups on screen were but I loved hearing that achievement chime and enjoyed all the meta-game stuff... and the rest is history!
Momie: Before the 360's launch, I was already playing games until 100% completion. Reaching 100% in GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas was very fun. When I first played a 360 game (Hexic of course!) on launch day, I immediately loved achievements and it was an easy metric to tell when I "completed" a game. IIRC, my first grind was also in Hexic to get the "Play 100 games" achievement. As I tried to complete more and more games, the achievement whoring intensified and here we are, almost 12 years later, in the GTASC :)
Ow Nitram: Way before the release of the Xbox 360 in 2005 (2002-2003), me & a friend were on a community dedicated to what we called today “Achievements”. I won’t go into too much details but the site/community targeted specific games across all systems (mostly Nintendo systems, Dreamcast, Xbox OG) and created a challenge (achievement) list. For example : NES – Super Mario Bros. : Beat the game under 8 minutes, NES – Contra : Beat the game w/o continues, Xbox – Jet Set Radio Future : 100% the game, Xbox – Dead or Alive Ultimate : Unlock all costumes for every characters and complete survival mode with each character. People had to take pictures/ record. When I heard about the achievements with the release of the Xbox 360, I was really happy but at the time, I thought I’d probably be one of the fews to care about them. I guess I was wrong haha. Sometimes, I wish achievements would be “harder” (or should I say would require more work), I like achievement lists like Mega Man Legacy 1 & 2 : Complete each Mega Man/ Beat Challenges with gold but not a fan of games with story-related achievements but it’s fine, don’t mess the current system.
v CARRNAGE: Achievements, love getting them. Espically the ones everyone bitches about. LOOKING AT YOU HOPIKO YOU FILTHY GAME, RAGE ENDUCING GAME. (I don't get mad at games often but lag caused more deaths then I did and I died at least 400 times.)

5) Pick one song everyone must listen to. Feel free to include YouTube links.
DeAtHisLaNd: I'll just leave this here :

JORAX: Donuts, Go Nuts! by Chainsaw (of Twisted Pixel fame) is amazing. I defy you to not get it caught in your head!

K4rn4ge: Less Than Jake - P.S. Shock The World - One of my favorite songs from my favorite band.

Momie: My favorite band is Grimskunk, an alternative band from Montreal with punk and prog influences. They have a keyboard in the band and it adds a unique flavor in many songs. Their early stuff is the most popular but there's a song in one of their recent album that I love so much. They often change rhythms in their songs (slow paced to high intensity and back) and this song is a great example of that. Worldly Grace - Grimskunk:

Ow Nitram: Capcom made some of the most rockin’ song of all time and it’s better than today’s “real” music.

v CARRNAGE: That's easy the best theme song evey made for a animated children show, and that's saying a lot!

6) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
DeAtHisLaNd: Can't believe we are only 16 weeks before the finals ! Good luck to everyone who are still in the GTASC !
JORAX: Everybody loves donuts!
K4rn4ge: Did I mention that Trials Fusion is now free with Games with Gold? ;)
Momie: Destiny 2 is out pretty soon but because of the GTASC, I won't be able to play it as much as I wish I could... If you're in the same situation, send me a friend request! We'll start the grind in December :)
Ow Nitram: Thanks for the awesome contest planting! Another week, another streak. Just realized that I reached +1500 games (retails + indies) in my backlog last week shock I thought I was going to run out of games soon laugh It’s kind of funny, I like to play new releases, can’t wait for this fall!!
v CARRNAGE: See you in the next blog! I'm going for first again and I'm an overconfident son of a bitch. Also follow my blog! Just did a give away and it won't be the last one! Also this time with more passion...

PermalinkGTASC 2017 - Period 30
Howdy and welcome to a recap of what's happening around TA and Xbox. We'll be looking at Leap Frog, the TA Playlist, Games with Gold and of course, the Overachievers from Period 29 and of course the stats for the period we just finished.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:

Available August 16th:
X1: Trials Fusion
360: Red Faction: Armageddon

Life Is Strange (and its 360 variant) are on tap. If you haven't had the chance to experience this story yet, I'd recommend you do. If you haven't done the stack yet - this month may be a great time to jump in. Episode 1 is free on both platforms.

Here's what we've done so far:
830 gamers in total have turned back the clocks with Max. 330 of that total has started a new title with 140 completing it. 11,467 achievements have been unlocked so far worth 194,345 gamerscore and 253,082 TA. Still plenty of the month to participate if you are thinking about joining in.

  • LEAP FROG:
Year 3 of this hopping event is underway. This year 1,758 joined the event and after just 7 days we've already eliminated 964, well over half the contestants. Today is the day things start to heat up where we add an additional achievement to the mix. Each week an additional achievement is required of the daily ratio and today is Period 8 which is the beginning of Week 2. Whether it be folks forgetting the change or the difficulty jump itself - I see today's elimination being a heftier one. You can hop to the hub here: Leap Frog 2017

  • BONUS RECAP:
7 Teams won the I Know My ABC's bonus which required each member to spell the Alphabet using achievements.
This period the Solo side is tasked with Lowrider - End the period with a TA ratio under 1.1

No new winners. There was a recent addition if you wakka wakka wakka this way.

I've put up a poll recently asking about different statistics for use in contests. To add your voice, here's the link:
What other statistic makes for interesting competition?

  • PERIOD 29 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
Sitting down with us this time are all 6 of our Overachievers from Period 29. The Solo Champion - BiLLzuMaNaTi as well as the Team Champions - The Godz Reborn.
1) What pushed you to 1st place this period?
BiLLzuMaNaTi: I actually wasn't trying for first lol I wanted to get the new achievements in Ark done before the official release incase they get rid of the commands and make it harder to complete. On top of that I played and finished the newly released games at the time Unbox: Newbie's Adventure and Infinite Minigolf (just missing the broken achievement in Unbox) and that gave me so much points.
DeAtHisLaNd: At first, we just wanted most achievements but after a few days we decided to do the Highest TA too and it all worked out after all ! :)
JORAX: Why not? We're in a competition focused on earning points, lets earn some points :).
K4rn4ge: We collaborate well as a team which helped us plan ahead to take the number one spot.
Momie: We knew we wanted to go for some badges in the near future and I was on "staycation" that week, so since having extra time on my side to play would obviously help a lot, we decided as a team that it would be the perfect opportunity to go for it!
Ow Nitram: Playing as usual. My own interpretation is all about the week before with the 4.0 ratio bonus. Our team really likes the challenge offers with each team bonus and we were ready to do this one. We chose the thorny path by playing not-so-good games like ZHEROS (me & my teammates are really good at playing hard, obscure, horrible games laugh ) and a miracle kind of happens for a lot of teams during that week with Minecraft, Ark & Doom DLC/Title updates. In the end, a lot of teams did get the bonus but almost 9 teams out of 10 had to deal with considerable decay the following week. On our side, we even had a TA boost from a couple of games.

2) Did you play anything you'd recommend?
BiLLzuMaNaTi: Unbox: Newbie's Adventure was really enjoyable to me but I think it's a little overpriced and I just started Fortnite which I definitely recommend because it's awesome.
DeAtHisLaNd: Gunscape is more fun than I thought and Gridd : Retroenhanced is a really fun game ! (Hard also, but I have to comeback to it when we will decide to stop streaking most achievements haha)
JORAX: Not really. D4 was... interesting and crazy. I'm kind of sad it won't have any more seasons so we could see more of the story. Save the Ninja Clan was OK - but nothing compared to older, better platformers like Super Meat Boy.
K4rn4ge: No particular game I played stood out that week.
Momie: I wouldn't recommend the games I started & finished this week, they are pure achievement whore material :) But I did complete Dead Rising 4 this week, which I really liked despite its flaws. The final DLC, Ultra Mini-golf something something, was quite funny even if the achievements were a bit grindy.
Ow Nitram: ReCore, I started the game when it was released back in September but since it was 2 months before the bar examination, I put it back on the shelves. Minus the collec-o-thon and the glitches, I liked the game a lot (classic 3D platformer fan) and I hope for a sequel. I think Mr. Inafune can still do decent game (please patch that last achievement in Migthy No. 9) but I’m not sure if this franchise has any future. The rest of games I played during this week, not recommended laugh

3) What is your favorite boss battle and why?
BiLLzuMaNaTi: My favorite boss battle is The Greaty Mighty Poo from Conker's Bad Fur Day because it's ridiculous and funny.
DeAtHisLaNd: I'll go with the Final Boss in Bulletwitch, this boss have to beat 5 times (5 different difficulty) and everytime he took me atleast 45 min to an hour to beat. Fun game tho, I will have to play it again one day (Probably the Jap Stacks :) )
JORAX: I don't know if it was my favorite, but the most memorable has to be Ornstein and Smough from Dark Souls. I died so many times, but when I finally beat them it was exhilarating!
K4rn4ge: I have many favorite boss battles but a really cool one from a recent favorite indie game of mine is the end boss from Stardust Galaxy Warriors: Stellar Climax. The boss is a giant disco ball that shoots lasers/bullets in a psychodelic style with pulsating techno music in the background ... and that is just the first of three phases of the final boss, but probably the coolest / most unique.
Momie: I would probably pick Dr. Wily in the early MegaMan games. I think it was one of my first "real" boss battles that I've played that needed strategy and pattern learning. ( No Bowser in SMB doesn't count :) ). I remember when I learned about the pause menu/electricity weapon glitch to defeat the orange monster in MM1, it was a game changer!
Ow Nitram: Hard to decide between Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess but I’ll say Twilight Princess’ Ganon battle is my favorite. Great variety from Ganon, final horse battle scene was really good (Calamity Ganon in Breath of the Wild was a letdown imo). Honorable mention to Liquid Ocelot in MGS4, was memorable for the soundtrack. I’d like to add to this list Miss Enoshima, however, since this game (which is Playstation/PC exclusive) is not yet released outside of Japan and I saw at least 3 or 4 persons on TA with custom gamerpics related to this game series, I won’t go into any detail to avoid spoiler upupupu.

4) What first attracted to you TrueAchievements?
BiLLzuMaNaTi: It was a long time ago, I was looking around for help on a game I found TA with a great community of fellow gamers hunting achievements and I've been here ever since :)
DeAtHisLaNd: Don't really remember, probably the stats & leaderboard.
JORAX: I love stats, and being able to see my Gamerscore broken down over time and by genre was really cool. Plus, its fun keeping tabs on my score compared to my friends.
K4rn4ge: The thing that attracted me to TrueAchievements years ago was the friend feed since it was an easy way to see what my friends were up to and their achievement progress more easily than Xbox.com (and still true to this day!). I also got drawn to the site leaderboards here on TA, especially after Mygamercard.net shut down (RIP).
Momie: It think it's the achievement tracking that interested me in the first place. IIRC, MyGamerCard.net was also doing achievement tracking but it eventually shutdown. TA became the obvious choice for tracking achievements. It's only after that the ratio/achievement rarity stuff got its hooks in me
:)
Ow Nitram: All the stats, community, features offer here. The way I use it, I always find to be totally worth it to support TA. I think my favorite thing is the TrueAchievements Score, at one point, you need to play hard games and not only bean dive 3000 games to rank high and I’m happy TA takes the difficulty of a game (with ratio) into consideration.

5) What is your favorite genre game to play and why?
BiLLzuMaNaTi: Its hard to pick one. I would say it's a tie between sandbox games and survival. I like exploring open worlds, playing a game the way I want to and also I love survival games. I had so much fun with Minecraft when it first released on Xbox 360. Starting from nothing and building/collecting everything needed for the achievements was so much fun.
DeAtHisLaNd: Shoot 'Em Up/Dual Stick-Shooter ! Simply because Im good at them and I don't need a guide to complete the them. They are my favourite genre, I'll pick First Person Shooter as my 2nd choice.
JORAX: Lately Roguelike and Rogue-lite games have been catching my attention. Something about having to really master a game to make progress feels very satisfying to me.
K4rn4ge: My favorite genre to play is easily twin-stick shooter because of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved when it first launched over a decade ago. There are so many great twin stick shooters on Xbox One now but still none of them dethrone the Geo Wars series in my book.
Momie: Turn-based strategy or RPG games. I really like having the time to plan out a strategy and work with different character abilities. Unfortunately, there's not a whole bunch of those games on Xbox, good thing I also like other genres!
Ow Nitram: A lot of them. Japanese shmup, 3D platformer, Hack & Slash and, since two of my favorite series ever are Ace Attorney and Danganronpa like I explained in a previous interview, can’t skip the Visual Novel/Adventure genre. I like heavy, story-driven games on one side and intense action on the other like shmup and H&S, quite the opposite I know.

6) If you could chose a different stat to base a contest on, what would it be? Why?
BiLLzuMaNaTi: I can't think of a different stat to base a contest on but maybe a head to head contest like UHH but instead of going for certain achievements the contestants try to earn the most achievements in the week or get the most completions.
DeAtHisLaNd: Kinda GTASC mix with Leap Frog. Every week the ''cutoff'' gets higher and higher (For example, Week 1, you need 1,000 TA to pass the week, Week 2, you need 2,000 TA, etc. until one guy still stand :)
JORAX: It would be cool to see some sort of contest that emphasized co-op games. I'm not sure how it would work though. It might encourage people to reach out and make new friends and play some games differently then they would normally.
K4rn4ge: No ideas at the moment for a new type of contest.
Momie: Well, since I'm a completionist, the obvious choice for me would be completion percentage or complete games but I'm not sure it would make a compelling competition... Honestly TA is the perfect stat, as it allows for many different strategies to score and we need to take decay or increase into account which adds another layer on top of it..
Ow Nitram: Haha, good question, could be debate for hours I’m sure. As for the GTASC, I think the fact of being TA score-based is great because, otherwise, it would be a contest of who did not play the easiest, fastest, 1000G completion. As for a new contest, maybe something where you need to do a number of completions during a certain amount of time or you are eliminated, a bit like Leap Frog (i.e. 7 days for 1 completion, 5 days for 1 completion, 6 days for 2 completions, etc.).

7) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
BiLLzuMaNaTi: Just a thank you to True Achievements and staff for making and running such a great site with fun contests :)
DeAtHisLaNd: Thanks again for your time and see you next week (If we manage to finish first...I guess ! )
JORAX: Hey look, we made it farther than last year!
K4rn4ge: I'll leave you with one important piece of advice... whatever you do... DONT PLAY BOKOSUKA WARS II ! IT'S A TRAP!
Momie: Thanks again to planting42 for running the contest and shout out to my teammates, it's a joy to be competing with you guys!
Ow Nitram: As always, thanks for this opportunity and I would like to point that a year ago, at the same period, my team (even though I wasn’t there due to the bar school/exam and had to give up my seat to someone else) was eliminated by 1 TA. Now, for the same period, I’m answering your interview questions after finishing 1st laugh

Available August 16th:
X1: Trials Fusion
360: Red Faction: Armageddon

The month of Mordor has ended and here's the stellar results. (Sorry, no images until Rich fixes the stats panels.) 16,486 gamers started it and 19,286 played it overall. Together they unlocked 314,875 achievements worth 6,250,115 Gamerscore and 10,526,841 TA score. There were only 187 completions but then again, its one large game.

On tap this month is Life Is Strange (and its 360 variant.) Get your time twisting powers ready and delve into the life of Max.

Its Leap Frog time again here at TrueAchievements. This iteration is a bit different in that it combines elements from both previous Leaps. The ratio increases daily as it did last year bit each week you have to unlock an additional achievement. Week 1 is only 1 achievement of the required value. Week 2 is 2 achievements of the value and so on. Check in here: Leap Frog 2017

  • BONUS RECAP:
33 Individuals won the 1K All the Way bonus for ending the scoring period having earned a gamerscore that's a multiple of 1000.
*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***
AbleHenry earned their Safety Bench with the win of this bonus as well.

This period all 5 member Teams are tasked with spelling out the alphabet by using the 1st character of newly unlocked achievements. Special characters are indeed special so you'll have to get your umlaut on elsewhere.

No new winners.

  • PERIOD 28 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
Sitting down with us this time are 4 members of Killers of Unicorn Killers.
1) What pushed you to 1st place this past period?
nate 1528: My teammates are the ones that pushed me to get first this period. Weredog51 was in second so I wanted to try and beat him. Originally I wasn't going to try for 1st but I realized that all of the points I earn that period would help my team get first too, and we did!
SloppyJoe811: Well 2 of my team mates were battling for first in the Solo so I didn't need to do much. We also noticed that The Godz Reborn were in first but were also going for the bonus so I know if they still wanted the ratio bonus their possible achievements were limited and they couldn't just play a lot of easy games to stay with us.
Weredog51: I was fighting my teammate Nate to 1st. He took it and deserved it.
xSTAGGERxLEEx:

2) Did you play anything interesting this past period?
nate 1528: I played some pretty uninteresting games last period. I played some crappy rugby games and a whole bunch in ACA NEOGEO crap. The best thing I played last period was DOOM. I forgot how much fun that game was and I enjoyed going back and getting to level 44.
SloppyJoe811: Amazing Princess Sarah was enjoyable
Weredog51: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition was very fun! That's about it though.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: Runbow is fun, challenging and I am sure it will drive me insane. Not a far drive though...

3) What is your favorite game series and why?
nate 1528: It's very hard to choose. My favorite game series is either The Legend of Zelda, Left 4 Dead, or guitar hero. I know each of those are polar-opposites but they truly are my favorite series. I used to play guitar hero 3 on the wii when it first came out for the longest time. Zelda I've always been playing since I was a little kid, and left 4 dead was my favorite series on xbox 360.
SloppyJoe811: Gears of War. I still remember the commercial for the first gears. It's pretty much the reason I bought a 360 and maybe even the reason I'm such an achievement whore today.
Weredog51: Either Gears of War or Borderlands. Both are amazing series.
xSTAGGERxLEEx:

4) Which game completion are you the most proud of?
nate 1528: Probably Trials Fusion. I've been playing the trials games since trials hd came out and I've loved them all. Trials fusion is typically seen as a difficult completion throughout the community, especially because of the tons of DLC. It sure takes a lot of practice to be good at it, but it's so rewarding when you finally get past the part you were stuck on. Trials is another one of my favorite series and I am very proud of my completion.
SloppyJoe811: I think I'd have to say 1001 Spikes. This is one of those games where the ratio just really doesn't reflect the difficulty of the game because I think many people gave up before ever popping an achievement. You pretty much have to beat half of the game before you even pop your first cheevo. Every achievement in the game is a diamond achievement.
Weredog51: Couldn't pick one so the whole Borderlands series. I've completed them on One and 360.

5) Do you skip cutscenes or enjoy the story or does it depend on the game?
nate 1528: It depends on my mood. I skip cutscenes if i'm in a rush to finish a game or if i'm playing through the game a second time for some reason. But if it's a series that I know and love then sure, i'll watch the cutscenes, until they get boring that is.
SloppyJoe811: Totally depends on the game.
Weredog51: Very much depends on the game.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: It really depends on the game, if I am playing it for cheevos or for enjoyment.

6) Do you have a special area for gaming or do you take over the living room? Care to share pictures?
nate 1528: This is actually pretty good timing. I just recently remodeled my gaming area. I stayed in the camper for 3 weeks while a slaved away at ripping up carpet, painting the walls, and putting down hardwood flooring. Here are some pictures:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mrdogxt2yzblrcu/AADaLBMr6tDd0igKO...
SloppyJoe811: No special area for me. Got my XB1, and both 360's set up in my bedroom.
Weredog51: I've got a "Man Cave" area, but it's just your everyday TV/Console setup.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: I took over the living room as I am selfish, but because I am also gracious, player 1 and player 2 have a playroom with their own tv with a xbox one, my wife games on her Switch.

7) Anything else you'd like to add?
nate 1528: I've been having such a good time in this years GTASC! This is the first time i've come in first for the individual competition and I am so happy! Thank you to my awesome team, Killers of Unicorn Killers.
SloppyJoe811: Thanks again to Planting42. I love this contest. It keeps me gaming a lot more than I probably would normally.
Weredog51: Good luck in the coming weeks everyone!
xSTAGGERxLEEx:
Thanks for that :)

  • BONUS RECAP:
14 Teams won the 'Stretch' bonus by ending with a ratio over 4.0
*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***
No Safety Nets earned.

The bonus has swung back to the Solo side and they are tasked with 1K All the Way which requires them to end the period having earned an amount of Gamerscore that's divisible by 1,000.

No new winners.

There are more Steamy goodies out there thanks to Infamous that you may want to take a look at.

  • PERIOD 27 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
This period we have the Punching Kangaroos with us for a quick chat.
1) What pushed you to 1st place this period?
ChinDocta: Just a combination of me scoring high for the solo bonus before I left and the rest of the team picking up my slack afterwards in the push.
Grug: ChinDocta of course! I think I was in last place in the team, so I'll move on to the next question...
Montana97: Chin was having a big week so we had some fun.
seamonkeypowder: ChinDocta put up an impressive amount of Gamerscore early in the period. That prompted the rest of the boys to continue and go for first. For the Chin!
zzUrbanSpaceman: Chindocta, who is arguably our strongest scorer, was going away on holiday for a couple of weeks and wanted to earn the solo bonus so he'd be able to use it to survive in the weeks he was away. The solo bonus that week was to double the previous weeks' GS - however he'd set himself a pretty high bar as the previous week he'd earned 8,560GS! So, he was piling on the points before he went away and by the time he'd finished his score alone had us nudging the top of the leaderboard. The rest of the team decided to rally behind this and took the opportunity to get our first #1 spot - for the Chin!

2) Did you play anything you'd recommend?
ChinDocta: Black the fall was pretty good but I can go past the GOTY for it's time Hannah Montana the movie the game
Grug: I recently built a decent gaming PC, and got Rise of the Tomb Raider on sale. Wow, looks awesome in 4K with all the bells and whistles turned up!
Montana97: I really enjoyed Little Nightmares and its DlC. Black the fall was nice for what it was also.
seamonkeypowder: Nothing I’d recommend.
zzUrbanSpaceman: Black The Fall Achievements, ACA NEOGEO WORLD HEROES 2 Achievements, ACA NEOGEO OVER TOP Achievements and ABZÛ Achievements were some quick and easy points this week. I also unlocked a lot of various Minecraft achievements, including the AppleTV version (which I don't recommend for the price and the lack of world backup/import).

A shoutout to Maka91 for the ABZU and Black the Fall guides which were invaluable.

3) Do you have any hobbies outside of gaming?
ChinDocta: I like to play football (soccer), read, travel as often as I can afford.
Grug: Retro gaming / gadgets, brewing (wine and beer), vege gardening, camping, gems, fossicking, faceting
Montana97: Im self employed so that takes up a lot of my time, and i also play in a band, if you look at my scoring it mostly all comes in from sat night and sunday each week.
seamonkeypowder: I enjoy long walks on the beach, puppies and sunsets. Actually, they usually just get in the way of more gaming.
zzUrbanSpaceman: There are hobbies outside of gaming? wink I read a lot of comics (all digital these days) and while I'm a programmer in my day job, I also do coding for a bunch of little side projects, notably the automation of the Zed to Zed Podcast Great Random ToDo List Challenge (http://forum.zedtozed.com/t/active-the-4th-annual-great-rand...) and of course some automation work for the GTASC itself. I also tinker with electronics, having built various projects with Arduinos and gutted Xbox controllers. But gaming is my first love. First hobby love, that is. Cough.

4) If you were forced to choose 3 and only 3 games to play for an entire year, what would they be and why?
ChinDocta: In no particular order: FIFA 17, Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix.
Grug: 1 - Dragon Age Inquisition: have recently started it and it seems like a pretty long but enjoyable game.
2 - Elite Dangerous: so much left to do in this game. Just travelling to the centre would keep my occupied for a long time.
3 - (hope its ok to pick a game yet to be released) - Forza 7: looking forward to this and love my Forza!
Montana97: Red Dead Redemption, because i love it but never have any time to spend on it. Alan wake, that game helped me quit smoking seven years ago when i was playing it. And I would have to say Modern Warfare 2 that campaign was awesome, and i sunk way to many hours into the multiplayer before i was playing for score.
seamonkeypowder: Rocket league: It’s highly addictive, quick to pick up and play and hard to put down. I also enjoy all the competitive banter that goes on in during ranked matches. What a save!

Civilization VI: I love strategy games. I’m yet to play Civilization VI. So that would keep me busy during the year.

Just Dance 2017: Because.. dancing. Maybe a solid year of it would make me half decent at it. Plus it's fun for a good laugh with family and friends.
zzUrbanSpaceman: Batman: Arkham Asylum. Love that game, completed all 6 versions of it on Xbox achievement based systems, also have the PS3 stacks and the Steam version that I plan to do sometime. The recent Summer Games Done Quick event has inspired me to look at speedrunning it.

Elite: Dangerous. I could probably just play this one game for a year and still have things to do. 400 billion systems and even with a player base over three platforms only 1% has actually been explored. It's big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is.

I haven't picked up a plastic instrument in quite some time, but if I had to pick a third game it's probably got to be Rock Band 3..

5) If you could physically enter any game world, what would it be and why?
ChinDocta: I would love to enter the world of "World of Final Fantasy" and make a stack of captured monsters.
Grug: Forza Horizon! Everyone is having an awesome time and I can drive any car I want! Yeah!
Montana97: Interesting question, life is strange? Alan wake?
seamonkeypowder: Shower with your dad simulator 2015. Those bonding moments you have showering with your dad are priceless. On second thought, it would have to be rocket league. Driving a car with the ability to rocket boost in the air while playing soccer sounds like fun to me.
zzUrbanSpaceman: Elite: Dangerous, because, well, space. It's big.

6) Do you have any personal or gaming goals you'd like to highlight?
ChinDocta: Assuming I stop being slack with my scoring I'll have a 200k Gamerscore year, even if I don't I'll likely hit 400k total this year so look forward to it.
Grug: I ran a marathon in 2013, and lately (probably due to too much gaming) I feel really unfit. I want to get back into running again.
Montana97: As of writing this I am 410 days sober which has been a great change/ experience for myself. Last week i cracked the 500k gamerscore barrier i believe the 419th person to? not sure. And of course my teammate Seamonkeypowder, Myself and Ganker alumni Madeyepadeye are the last remaining three contenders in the never ending bean dive that started at the achievement hounds on the 28th of feb 2013. A game a day keeps the dive at bay. Together we have climbed the games played leaderboards, wrecked our completion percentages and become good mates. #Forgottengladiators.
seamonkeypowder: Just to continue my daily bean dive and to beat Stallion83 and smrnov to 2 million Gamerscore. You know, just the usual gaming goals we all have.
zzUrbanSpaceman: I'm closing up on 400k GS soon which I plan to unlock with my signature Six Digits?!? from Dead Rising: Off The Record - for the third time (having unlocked it on my 100k and 200k). I'm casually pushing up the Australian Games Played leaderboards. That's about it really. Given some recent health issues I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself.

7) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
ChinDocta: Remember kids never punch a kangaroo unless you are under strict supervision from an Australian.
Grug: Thanks for the opportunity to be in this competition. I want to give a huge thanks to zzUrbanSpaceman and our team for inviting me in and working so well together. Thanks also to True Achievements for such a great website and serivce to us! Good luck to all the other teams - have fun!!
Montana97: Thanks for the opportunity to say a couple of words, thanks for the comp, and thanks to my teammates. wave Jas.
seamonkeypowder: What a save!
What a save!
What a save!

seamonkeypowder has left the game.
zzUrbanSpaceman: Although I've had to recently step down, I must give a shoutout to the podcast that I helped found - The Zed to Zed Podcast - which is a gaming podcast focused on Xbox achievements. We kind of filled the void from when the Achievement Hounds Podcast wound down, and Freamwhole, Proulx, Crandy, Spazpol and GTASC's own Planting42 feature, along with some regular guests in smrnov, Rand al Thor 19, Maka91, and others. If that tickles your fancy, check them out at http://www.zedtozed.com

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor has vaulted to the top as the most popular TA Playlist to date. We're just over halfway through the month and the stats are well above every previous Playlist. Here's how the previous Playlists finished up and how Shadow of Mordor currently sits:

This period Teams are tasked with ending with a team ratio greater than 4.0 - and that is simply calculated by taking the Team TA and dividing it by the Team Gamerscore. These numbers are visible on your team page as well as the leaderboard itself.

Me1tdown101 is back with a vengeance this period having spelled the titles for the following games:
Death Track: Resurrection
Robin Hood: The Legend Of Sherwood
Cities In Motion 2

Stay tuned for a new list of PC goodies available!

  • PERIOD 26 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
This period we have the Solo Overachiever with us for a quick chat.
1) Did you play anything you'd recommend last period?
ChinDocta - Last period was my Bean Dive period, so I have around 250 total that I played to choose from. Memorable ones of the top of my head would be....Flinthook (Flinthook Achievements), Steredenn (Steredenn Achievements), and Blue Rider (Blue Rider Achievements). Tons of fun.

2) If you could only play one game from now on, which one would it be and why?
ChinDocta - Final Fantasy X. It was one of the first real games that I put thousands of hours into to beat absolutely everything and I did it all again on the PS3 Remaster. I could see myself replaying that forever.

3) Which completion did you find the most rewarding?
ChinDocta - I have so few difficult completions to choose from so instead I'll go something I enjoyed completing the most. Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition. I put a ton of hours into that and doing the One Life mode legitimately (no save scumming) was hours of me rushing and dying and rushing and dying before finally getting it. The pressure of having to get that final achievement during another competition which shall remain unnamed also played a big part of my memory of the game.

4) What is your gaming set-up like? Feel free to send images.
ChinDocta - Its just mess. Absolute mess. Gaming PC on the desk on the right. TV on the left hooked up to my One S, 360, PS3 and PS2. Occasionally a laptop or 2 on the couch as well.

5) Is there a game you wish had a sequel that never got one?
ChinDocta - Up until E3 I would have said Ori again but now.....maybe My Horse and Me 2 (My Horse and Me 2 Achievements) or Energy Cycle(Energy Cycle Achievements).

6) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
ChinDocta - I just want everyone to remember me for that one thing I did that one time before I fade into obscurity.
Thanks for that! We'll hear from his whole team in the next recap.
