PermalinkGTASC 2017 - Period 23
Hello there ladies and gentleman - are you ready to rock?

Its that time again when we look at the contest stats, have a few words with the Overachievers of the period before as well as look at what's going on around TA and the Games with Gold program.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:
Available through the end of the month:
X1: SpeedRunners
MS Link
Multiplayer content pack for Phantom Dust (No achievements)
MS Link
360: Dragon Age: Origins
MS Link

Available through July 15th:
X1: Watch_Dogs
MS Link

With Sunset Overdrive the focus of this month, 1,720 gamers have unlocked 13,267 achievements for a total of 537,478 TA score. That places it ahead of what the community achieved in Alan Wake but leaves it quite a ways behind Darksiders still. Probably worth noting that there are several versions of Darksiders to the single versions of Alan Wake and Sunset Overdrive.

Have you voted for next month's game yet? The choices are:
Assassin's Creed II
Destiny
Life Is Strange
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

If not, head here to do see a bit more about the games in the running and the poll itself: Vote Now for July 2017's TA Playlist Game

Need a new game to play? Looking for easy gamerscore for the team bonus this period? If you've got a few bucks to play with, you can probably pick up something interesting. Have a look at this mega ID@Xbox sale with a few other deals sprinkled in. Many of these are in the $2 - $5 range.
Xbox One Sale Roundup: June 20th, 2017

The Alphabet Challenge continues for another 6 days or so. Its not too late to join in if you haven't yet. Registration is open throughout the event. The premise is simple - unlock an achievement for each letter in the alphabet starting with A and ending with Z in order. As of the time I checked - 4,099 have unlocked at least their A achievement. 1,800 have completed the entire alphabet. This is by far the largest TA event to date. Thanks to everyone for participating in this!

  • BONUS RECAP:
24 Individuals won the Precisely GS bonus which required the Individual to end the scoring period with a gamerscore gain that's divisible by 2,017.
*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***
As with the period before - no Safety Benches were awarded.

This period the bonus falls back to the Teams. They are tasked with one that requires everyone to participate. To win The 3000 each member must end the period with a gamerscore gain of at least 3,000. Although this isn't much more than the current average score required, it does require attention to the gamerscore as well as the TA. Given it checks all team members - it also means that teams with a weak link as it were will have to convince their buddy to step it up if even for one period. Thankfully there is a huge sale as noted above that nay provide a bit of incentive. I had a blast playing Shred It! last night.

No new winners.

  • PERIOD 22 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
This period we have all 5 members of Killers of Unicorn Killers. with us who have secured a repeat with their Overachiever streak now)
1) Did you play anything you'd recommend this past period?
nate 1528: I played Refunct which was a very easy completion. And some other games..
SloppyJoe811: Not Really. I had limited time to play last week so I mostly did a lot of clean up and mindless grinding. The only thing I stopped to play that I really enjoy is Enter the Gungeon. I'm looking forward to playing more of that.
SporkSan: I played way too much Skylanders this period, I'd recommend staying away since it's really just an excuse to feed into a bad collecting habit. The gem in the rough that I discovered and have been playing on and off has ben Warframe. It's the game I wanted Destiny to be. Super kinetic, fast and mobile. It's super easy to drop in and play, and is great for preloading in spare time.
Weredog51: I really enjoyed Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds, and although I didn't play much of it, Hue seems like it will be a great game.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: Roundabout. I had no interest in this game till I tried the game pass and everything in it. I was really surprised how much fun this simple, yet challenging game is.

2) What do you think was the most exciting thing announced at E3?
nate 1528: The most exciting thing announced at e3 was the details for the xbox one x! The new metro looks awesome too!
SloppyJoe811: Probably the Prequel to Life is Strange. I can't wait to see where they go with it. XBox One X looks cool too.
SporkSan: The Indie Showcase during the Xbox Press event was the thing I enjoyed most. Lots of the games look really enticing, and will likely be a big drain on my wallet this year. I don't think there was anything groundbreaking for me to see this year, I was just grateful that Microsoft kept with it's promise to focus on games. And Crackdown 3!
Weredog51: The Xbox One X reveal was great, State of Decay 2/Life is Strange: Before the Storm as a close second.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: I got a little excited about playing Crimson Skies again, that and Halo 2 XBL MP are the 2 games that persuaded me away from Nintendo and Sony.

3) Do you think you would play OG Xbox games on your Xbox One?
nate 1528: There are only a couple OG xbox games I would play on my xbox one. The main one being Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. I still own the game, but I don't own my original xbox. If Microsoft somehow adds achievements to the OG xbox games, then you can bet i'll be playing a lot more!
SloppyJoe811: Nope no interest. I don't have time to play the games I own for the 360 and the XB1 let alone going back and re-playing games I've already played.
SporkSan: I'm totally looking forward to dusting off my OG Xbox collection and playing some old games. I've got really fond memories of Project snowblind and Total Overdose, and am looking forward to playing Crimson skies and Mech Assault again.
Weredog51: Definitely! I still have most of my old Xbox games so it was a big announcement for me
xSTAGGERxLEEx: Pretty sure I just answered that!

4) Do you plan on buying the Xbox One X at all? If so, do you want one at launch or will you wait for a price drop?
nate 1528: I will be getting the xbox one x when it comes out at launch! That is, as long as I still have a steady income.
SloppyJoe811: I'm a sucker for launch purchases so yes I'll probably be getting it day one.
SporkSan: I'm going to wait for a price drop, I think the hardware is amazing and the approach to iterative hardware is the right direction but the $500 price tag is a bit rich for my blood, considering the price curve of the Orignal One.
Weredog51: I will be buying it as soon as it's available.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: I honestly do not know, I am pretty entrenched in current gen. Maybe down the road when I feel like upgrading my TV to maximize the Xbox one X, (MS can you jam another X in please?). But for now I think I am good with the systems I have.

5) What is your favorite boss battle of all time?
nate 1528: It's hard to choose one but probably the final form of Ganon from The Wind Waker.
SloppyJoe811: This is a tough one but I think Mithos from Tales of Symphonia. This was my absolute favorite game on the gamecube and I think to this day still has one of the best stories of any video game.
SporkSan: The final encounter with Wheatly from Portal 2 really stands out. It took advantage of all of the skills the game taught you on your journey and was genuinely funny and surprising. It's not a hard fight, nor a terribly long one but it ends the game perfectly.
Weredog51: I've really enjoyed a lot of them but in more recent times I loved the last level of Mass Effect 2 with the boss being the icing on the cake.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: I offer this list for discussion

http://screenrant.com/best-video-game-boss-battles/

But I find Player 1 and Player 2 to be my hardest daily boss battles!

6) Do you have anything else to add?
nate 1528: The reason we won this period is because of the rest of my teammates, I did very little compared to everyone else.
SloppyJoe811: Just the usual, thanks to Planting of course and my awesome teammates for keeping me going. And an extra shout out to the rest of the TA Community that keeps this a great competition every year.
SporkSan: I really appreciate the effort being put into the GTASC by both staff and participants. I really enjoy the ability to find new ways to network with like minded achievement hunters, and appreciate that I've got such a dedicated team. Thanks for the Carry Unicorns!
Weredog51: I've had a great time this year and last in the GTASC. I've made great friendships during both. My team has helped me push further at every corner, and we're just having a blast this year. Thanks to the competition as well, it's fun almost every week because of you guys!
xSTAGGERxLEEx: Shout out to my team for their hard work this entire comp and to Planting42 for putting up with everyones BS and running this.

PermalinkGTASC 2017 - Period 22
Hello and welcome to the special E3 edition of the GTASC stat recap. This time we'll look at a few highlights and touch on things that were missing as well as check in with the TA Playlist, the Alphabet Challenge and the Games with Gold on offer currently before diving into our Overachiever interview and the stats themselves.

So. E3. Great source of news and gaming goodies to tide us over until the fall when most of them will reach our consoles. See the TA hub for E3 news here: E3 2017

Most of the announcements have been made at this point so there are likely to be few surprises moving forward. We now have the official name for the console - Xbox One X. Its been priced at $499 US which is in the range that most were expecting. I'm not sure I consider it a hugely premium experience when it costs the same as the Xbox One did at launch years ago. When you take into consideration what is packed into the console itself and the fact they've managed to shrink it even smaller than the One S - its quite a feat. The biggest questions that we still have are: What happened to the announcement that this console would support Virtual or Augmented Reality games? There was no mention of VR or AR at all during the MS event. Another question folks have is will they start the Kinect adapter program again for folks that bought early versions of the console bundled with one. Finally, we are wondering how these 4K texture packs will be delivered. What are we looking at for download requirements? How big will these packs be? For the folks on capped connections or those with not stellar speeds, this is a big question. Also, is a 1TB drive realistic when you consider how fast the internal drive fills up on the existing console with Games with Gold games alone?

We've been given an onslaught of new games to look forward to - and been given fresh tastes or release dates for things that have been in the pipeline for some time. Here are a few that got my interest:

Crackdown 3 and Cuphead both given release dates! I didn't see any real city destruction demo'd at E3 in Crackdown 3. Did they drop that to get the game out the door or is that functionality still there? I've tweeted the devs to see if I can find out. Cuphead still looks amazing but insanely difficult. What does the platforming crowd think of it?

Forza 7. Its racing and its super sexy and have you seen the new weather? Lightning does look amazing. Faces are still a bit off but this kind of graphics are nearly spot on. They did a car unveil at a game announcement?

Anthem. BioWare knocked this out of the park. It seems like part Mass Effect, part Destiny and part Titanfall. This world looks amazing. Is this why Andromeda shipped a bit broken?

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. A New Wolfenstein - in Amerika. This looks really good. Sort of reminded me of Homefront in a way but that's probably to be expected seeing a foreign force occupying the country. It was teased early on by Bethesda but the trailer looks great.

Kingdom Hearts 3. I've been waiting for this forever. I loved the original and have been waiting for this to make its way to the console for a very long time. Had to laugh when someone in chat was complaining about the Japanese voices for the Disney characters. I'm pretty sure it will ship with something we're familiar with. In any case, this is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Black Desert. This is a new to console MMO. It really looks beautiful. Appears to be quite a combat focused game. Seems its been on the PC for a few years so this should be a fairly well developed world to join when it launches on the console.

Assassin's Creed Origins. Taking it back to the Golden days of the Egyptian Empire. Here's hoping taking a year off has helped them bring some life back to the game. Quite the amazing look to the world. I like the functionality of Siwa and think they have something going for them.

Destiny 2. The Guardians still need you. Apparently more than ever. Will the grind be real or will it be real fun. Not much to tell from what I've seen so I'm waiting until I see more.

Ace Combat 7. One of the first games I played on the 360 was Ace Combat 6. My first real experience using the boosting sessions here involved grinding out the online for that game. It was one of the games that got me into the flight genre (although I'm equally psyched for the chance to play Crimson Skies again) and after seeing what they've got in mind for the next installation - I'm ready to grab it.

Was there something you liked that wasn't mentioned above? I'm sure I overlooked something in this brief look and wasn't able to catch all the shows I wanted.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:
Available through June 15th (tomorrow!):
X1: Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
MS Link
360: Assassin's Creed III
MS Link

Available through the end of the month:
X1: SpeedRunners
MS Link
Multiplayer content pack for Phantom Dust (No achievements)
MS Link

Available June 16th:
X1: Watch_Dogs
360: Dragon Age: Origins

Sunset Overdrive is in the hotseat this month. So far 408 gamers have started the game and 1,265 gamers overall have unlocked 9,145 achievements in it.
External image

Alphabet Challenge is still cranking along. As of now nearly 3,800 gamers have unlocked their 'A' achievement. 1,385 have completed their alphabet. There is plenty of time left. If you want to join in and haven't registered, don't worry! Registration is open throughout. Its like spelling for the GTASC but easier since you can use not only Apps but Challenges as well.

  • BONUS RECAP:
17 Teams won the 'What Are We?' bonus (for spelling 'Crazy for Xbox' using the 1st character of newly unlocked achievements.) No new Safety Benches awarded.
*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***

If you believe we overlooked your team, please contact zzUrbanSpaceman for your team output.

This period the bonus is back on the Solo side and everyone is tasked with ending the period with a gamerscore gain that's a multiple of 2017. Yes, you will have to 'mess up' your divisible by 5 gamerscore, if even for a few days wink

No new winners.

  • PERIOD 21 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:
This period we have all 5 members of Vicious and Delicious as well as the Solo Overachiever with us.
1) Did you play anything you'd recommend this period?
Danno Omen: I actually played a couple interesting games this week but the 2 ill mention are NBA Playgrounds and Deformers. 2 of my teammates might disagree but i thought what i played of Deformers was pretty good and not many people will have even heard of it. Its a bit expensive for what it is though. And NBA Playgrounds is a little ode to the old school of NBA Jam. A lot of fun even if your not a huge basketball fan.
JakeJones04: Probably Rocket Riot. It's a good bang for your (four) buck(s). Typical small grindy achievements involved and actually a bit of fun.
oxy71: No not really
SnipedByAGir1: I really liked Castle Invansion: Throne Out for some reason.
Stevano61 PB2A: NBA Playgrounds. No microtransactions is fantastic, especially unlocking players by simply playing and levelling up. Fun game, even if it does eventually get repetitive.
xx Kenshira xx: Hmm, only game that had replay value was tekken 7 and injustice 2.

2) What are your thoughts on in-game chat?
Danno Omen: I never really use in chat since i rarely play multiplayer anymore and when i do its with friends and were usually in a party. It serves a purpose though and can help you meet like minded gamers if you can get through the screaming kids, but then again we were all those kids at some point wernt we?
JakeJones04: The idea of in-game chat is nice until I think back to my days in COD:MW2 with my buddies and how I would just end up muting nearly 99% of the people we would get in lobbies with. I haven't had much experience with the in-game chat lately.
oxy71: IF I playing with friends in game chat is good, but otherwise no.
SnipedByAGir1: I'm sorta ok with in-game chat. I don't really want to chat with little kids when I'm gaming. Would rather be in party chat with my friends.
Stevano61 PB2A: Don't like it. Much prefer party chat with friends
xx Kenshira xx: I really dislike it. Can't play a game with 1 idiot having their kinect on hearing everything going on in their house, 7 year olds crying because they dont get their way etc. So i usually Open a party and sit in there by my self.

3) What is the next game you plan to buy and why?
Danno Omen: Whatever the next big release is?I have a bit of a problem in buying the next big game and rarely ever getting around to it. I really should stop because by the time i get around to them they are $20. Luckily not much comes out in summer so my next game on my radar is Get Even. It looks quite interesting and a different take on a shooter and i love giving new IP's a chance.
JakeJones04: Whatever quick/easy completion goes on sale next, more than likely. I did, however, pick up Yooka-Laylee a week or two ago. Can't wait to finally play this and many other games in my ever-growing backlog.
oxy71: Sniper ghost warrior 3, like most gamers in this comp. my backlog is getting bigger each day.
SnipedByAGir1: The next AAA game I plan to buy is Destiny 2. I have no idea why, but I could spend a ton of hours happily farming for stuff in the first Destiny.
Stevano61 PB2A: Probably something cheap with points to get weekly score for the team. Who know what my teammates will suggest. I am looking forward to F1 2017 in the near future, especially with the classic cars returning. My teammates are also very worried about the time NHL 18 releases, knowing full well how much time I like to sink into that franchise. smile
xx Kenshira xx: Probably what comes out tomorrow lol. Because i pretty much buy every game that comes out.

4) What game would you consider your hardest completion and why?
Danno Omen: I dont think i have any overly hard completions. I guess my hardest would be Syndicate. Its a pretty challenging shooter and some tough achievements, amazing game though.
JakeJones04: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters - not because of the difficulty, but because of the many hoops I remember jumping through to complete this. This was when they were phasing out season passes and I couldn't buy one from the Xbox marketplace so I went to every GameStop in the area to find a used copy of the game with an unused season pass code. Finally, I bought a copy on eBay that, by pure luck, had a valid season pass code and I was then able to complete it.
oxy71: Gears 3, not hard but time consuming for seriously 3.0.
SnipedByAGir1: I'd have to go with Final Fantasy XI. I played that game for over a decade (started it on PC). Never thought I would be able to complete it. Glad they took a cue from WoW and enabled solo play in the end.
Stevano61 PB2A: TA score says Project Spark, but honestly it was pretty simple. Ratio says SSX, but that got a decent boost when it was Games with Gold. My hardest completion I'd say would be finishing NHL 13 through 17, so hoping NHL 18 has an easy list for a change.
xx Kenshira xx: I dont believe in long and boring/bad games to be hard, it all comes down to skill. This is a matter of option tho, i get told X game is too hard i cheated etc. Im like it was easy, i can do blind folded. But my hardest completion in my opinion is marvel vs capcom fate of two worlds on xbx 360, i had to pick out a 360 game, due to. In my own opinion i dont believe any xbox one game I've completed was too hard. Granted i did get frustrated a few times in some.

5) Is there anything you won't play? (specific game, platform, etc?)
Danno Omen: Usually i wont play anything unless i'm actually interested in the game, though with the last few years of GTASC,and especially this year i've been a lot more open about the games i buy.
JakeJones04: Not at all - I have no shame!
oxy71: Not a fan of driving games because I stink at them.
SnipedByAGir1: Does it have achievements? I'll play it.
Stevano61 PB2A: I tend to stay as far away as I can from MMO games. Do not enjoy them at all. Not the biggest fan of strategy games either, other than RISK.
xx Kenshira xx: No not really, but im not really a fan of sports games. But I've played a few here and there.

6) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Danno Omen: Thanks as always to planting for running the competition and thanks to all the teams for making it quite competitive so far even in the earlier periods. Whoever wins this year will have earned it,there is no question about that.
JakeJones04: Thanks planting for the contest and best of luck to all that remain. Go Rafa!
oxy71: It has been a fun competition this year, seems quite more competitive than years past. I just hope we can continue and make it to the end of the year.
SnipedByAGir1: Thanks for putting on this competition Planting. It really brings out the not so good obsessive compulsive in me. My husband is super impressed ...
Stevano61 PB2A: It's nice to be on top after some previous attempts were thwarted. And thanks to my teammates for doing most of the work on it after a busy work week on my end.
xx Kenshira xx: Check out my band https://www.facebook.com/Fragmenta/
We do tour outside of Australia. And we will be hitting the Uk within the comming months. Here's a live recording from a few gigs ago, we don't record all gigs.

We do have a gig lined up in August we will be headlining a main event. In Adelaide. Our gigging schedule is very open due to writing our 3rd album.

5,504 gamers played the game. 3,679 started it and 400 completed it. Together they unlocked 66,731 achievements worth 1,376,615 Gamerscore and 2,070,752 TA score.

Sunset Overdrive is the game for this month so its time to get your grind on!

Alphabet Challenge is the currently running event which tasks you with unlocking an achievement that begins with each letter of the alphabet in ascending order. So far 3,316 have unlocked their A achievements. 594 have completed their lists as of the time I compiled these stats. There is plenty of time left and registration is open throughout the event.

  • BONUS RECAP:
109 Bonuses were won on the Solo side. They were tasked with Easy Peasy which required them to end the scoring period having earned a minimum of 5,000TA. The winners were:

This period the bonus swings back to the Team side. They are tasked with What Are We? which requires each member to end the period having spelled the phrase 'Crazy for Xbox' using the first character of newly acquired achievements. Said achievements must come from games only, must be timestamped and special characters (such as umlauts) are not valid.

Me1tdown101 has the letter X well in control and earned a steamy REAXXION from the prize pool.
MLGMakun went to great lengths to earn OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood

Another bunch of Steam games has been added to the prize list.

  • PERIOD 20 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:
This period we have all 5 members of The Godz Reborn with us.
1) Did you play anything interesting this past period?
DeAtHisLaNd: I'll say most of them were interesting but the one that surprise me the most was Lovers in a Dangerous Space, I had great time playing the game with my girlfriend. Also, Turn On was my favourite game played this week.
JORAX: Various versions of Minecraft. If you don't mind buying it 8 or 9 times, its a pretty solid amount of points and achievements.
K4rn4ge: Last period, nothing really stood out as very interesting but the games I played were mediocre. I played and completed A Walk In The Dark which felt a lot like Super Meat Boy (and more recently Save The Ninja Clan, but obviously nowhere near the quality of SMB). It was still pretty fun though! I also played Star Balls which was a moderately fun and unique futuristic mini-golf style game but I am pretty sure it will be forgotten about as soon as Infinite Minigolf hits Xbox One. I did all of the achievements in that aside from the ones that require you to play (aka idle) an absurd amount of hours - one achievement in it requires you to play 500 hours in levels shock
Momie: I was away from home for most of the week, so I had to play games on my Surface tablet and W10 phone. I played the first Walking Dead season (for the third time) on W10 and I was reminded on how great that game was. Incredible voice acting and deep characters.
Ow Nitram: I finished Phantom Dust (one of my favorite games on the original Xbox, great game and for free, you can’t go wrong and I really hope the sequel/reboot will see the light at E3) and Little Nightmares (it’s okay…but had a hard time with all the issues with the 2.5D gameplay and glitchy stuff). I started D4 : Dark Dreams Don’t Die, a game I owned since day one but never had the chance to start it back then. I am a big fan of crazy mystery novels like Ace Attorney or the Danganronpa series and I feel at home with this game, pleasantly surprised by the quality of the game. It’s sad that Hidetaka Suehiro won’t make Season 2 since he left the company and I hope Microsoft will go ahead with more seasons. I also played Aaero, good game and I like the challenge. People compared it to Rez but it isn’t Rez, it’s mainly a rhythm game (following lines with the beat) with secondary rail shooting sections. As always, I spent a good amount of time on Overwatch this week with the Anniversary event and the end of Season 4.

2) What is the origin of your gamertag?
DeAtHisLaNd: The origins of my Gamertag is simple if you have ever played Halo 1 on PC (or Master Chief Collection) My Gamertag is simply a map on Multiplayer called "Deathisland" and it was my favourite back then. I've stick with this gamertag since 2002 !
JORAX: It is a collection of letters from my first, middle, and last name.
K4rn4ge: The origin of my gamertag comes from way back in the days of Counter-Strike on PC in the early 2000's. It's not too interesting of a story and I was young back then so it will probably sound pretty corny but I may as well share it anyway! Basically, our team was dominating the other team and my teammate just said something along the lines of "this is pure carnage!" I just liked the sound of it and thought it would look better with a K. As for the 4's, I had to add some L337 speak in there so K4rn4ge was born ;)
Momie: Ha! For most English speaking people my gamertag is very weird (with reason). No I'm not a mom that can't spell, it's the french word for "mummy". I won't go into details but there's a story that ends with me being tied up in magnetic tape and the nickname stuck with my college friends :)
Ow Nitram: Nitram is quite easy to explain, it’s my family name in reverse, I suppose you can guess :) The Ow part is another story. My original gamertag from 2002 to 2007 was NitramR1 because Nitram was already taken. Ow or One Way at the time was a group I co-founded with 2 friends to create a competitive French Canadian team in event like the World Cyber Games. Through 2006 to 2009, the team played Gears of War, Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War 2 and most of the team members changed their gamertag with Ow tag. I played a lot of games on all systems (Microsoft, Nintendo & Sony) so I’m not the kind of person to stick on the same game add to the fact that I was a game reviewer and tournament manager for the only French Canadian website offering a competitive scene, I step down as a player and became the team manager/coach for events like the WCG to stay neutral. The team disbanded in 2010 (in my case I started my Law bachelor degree + Japanese degree) but I kept the gamertag anyway since everyone knew me under this one. The Ow has no more meaning but nowadays, I’m a big fan of Overwatch so it’s kind of funny.

3) Which game on the Xbox platforms did you enjoy playing the most and why?
DeAtHisLaNd: Geometry Wars Evolved 2. I was #1 in the the world in One of the mode called "Waves" for almost a year. I also have videos of Geometry Wars on Youtube, some people know me from there.
JORAX: Dark Souls was a masterpiece, and remains my favorite game (and series) anywhere.
K4rn4ge: I have played and enjoyed many games on Xbox platforms but my all-time favorites are Halo 2, Geometry Wars 2 and Trials Evolution. Before gamerscore and playing lots of different games, I was addicted to Halo 2 for many years because of the amazing multiplayer and still to this day, only Halo 5 multiplayer comes close. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is actually what got me interested in buying an Xbox 360 but the 2nd in the series was actually my favorite. I held numerous world records in the series (as did my GTASC teammate Deathisland!). Then there's the Trials series which I also really enjoy but will discuss more shortly since it will come up in one of the later questions too!
Momie: I really love the Dead Rising series, especially the first one. The game was so unique and quirky when it came out, I loved it right away. And Destiny... a lot of Destiny.
Ow Nitram: Dead or Alive Ultimate or Halo 2, I can’t choose between them, I love them on equal ground and they’re completely different genre after all. November 9th 2004 is an historic date in gaming history and Halo 2 is a huge milestone. Everything about the online multiplayer was perfect and offered the best competitive matchmaking ever in an online game. For a lot of people at the time, the campaign story was “silly” but I still think the level design of Halo 2 Campaign was the best minus Gravemind. As for Dead or Alive Ultimate (mostly talking about Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate, the reboot/remastered of DOA2 Dreamcast but the game also included a port with online multiplayer of the first Dead or Alive), this was the best fighting game experience I ever had. Flawless gameplay (not too simple but easy to pick and learn), great and fun online multiplayer, tons of unlockables (almost 20 costumes per character to unlock), beautiful landscapes. Tecmo/Team Ninja had a flawless record track during the original Xbox days even if Itagaki was kind of “special”.

Honorable mentions : Catherine, Fatal Frame 2, Gears of War, Halo : Combat Evolved, Halo 3, Jet Set Radio Future, Mechassault, Ninja Gaiden, Project Gotham Racing 2, Overwatch, Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory.

4) Which companion/sidekick is your favorite?
DeAtHisLaNd: I'll say the dog in Sherlock Holmes, Toby.
JORAX: I'd probably have to go with Dogmeat from the Fallout series. Loyal, reliable, somewhat deadly, and generally immortal.
K4rn4ge: My favorite companion or sidekick in a game would have to be Star from Comic Jumper because he is hilarious and I love how he breaks the fourth wall. The game itself was just OK but having him as a sidekick / companion made the game way more interesting.
Momie: Your ghost in Destiny. I still prefer the Peter Dinklage version over the Nolan North one even if North did a solid job recasting the character. "We've woken the Hive!"
Ow Nitram: Maya Fey from Capcom’s Phoenix Wright : Ace attorney/ Gyakuten Saiban series.

5) Which achievement that you've earned would you describe as your most difficult win?
DeAtHisLaNd: I've done alot since 2006 but I remember finishing the Xbox Live Arcade War Worlds (Mech Third person shooter) and one achievement was to reach Wave 100 which to this day, only a few people manage to do it. I was also the First to finish the game. I was so proud, I usually wait for solution when I play hard games :P
JORAX: 'The Dark Soul' in the first Dark Souls took a crazy amount of effort, skill, and grinding. Sadly I later learned I could have traded for many of the items that were so difficult to get on my own.
K4rn4ge: Some of the hardest achievements I have accomplished come from Trials Evolution. It was my favorite entry in the series and also in my opinion, the most challenging. I think the hardest achievements I have done are probably these two:
Trials EvolutionWail of the BansheeThe Wail of the Banshee achievement in Trials Evolution worth 83 pointsZero fault the Hard as Nails tournament using the Banshee.
Trials EvolutionUltimate Endurance IIThe Ultimate Endurance II achievement in Trials Evolution worth 64 pointsPass Level 15 in Neverending Trials.

Momie: Probably Ironest Chalice in Massive Chalice. Complete the game on the highest difficulty with only one save slot. Things can go south pretty fast in Massive Chalice so knowing that a couple of wrong moves or bad luck can ruin a 15hr playthrough of the game is pretty stressful!
Ow Nitram: The Filled With Light achievement (at the same time House Of Pain) in Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition. You have to beat the Bloody Palace (a 100 stages endurance waves mode who takes +3 hours for a successful run) with Trish, the most awful character for doing this thing. She was never meant to be played in this mode but they added her anyway. I could also say Stampers Forever from Rare Replay or Brave the Gauntlet for Migthy No. 9 (or even beating the Babel Tower solo in Catherine) but those weren’t “that” hard (or mostly time consuming in the first case), just practice.

6) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
DeAtHisLaNd: I hope we will not get eliminated by 1 TA like last year **fingers crossed**laugh And Thanks to you Planting for doing this fantastic event every year !
JORAX: Thanks to you (and everyone) for putting on this competition!
K4rn4ge: Just wanted to thank planting42 for all the work he does organizing and managing the GTASC and also wanted to say nice job again to my teammates. Also, I often stream games on http://www.twitch.tv/karnage if you want to watch some achievement hunting in action (and also usually give away a bunch of games too!) so if you so desire, feel free to check out and follow my channel.
Momie: Shout out to my teammates who did a fantastic job last week. I was away so I couldn't score as much as I wanted but they stepped up and did a superb performance.
Ow Nitram: Thank you for having us and great event as always planting. Shout out to KLP X BRs X because he wants a shout out for so long.

A reminder that the end of the month is fast approaching so don't forget to queue up the currently available games if you haven't already! You'll see a list of what's currently available and what will be shortly a bit further in the recap. We'll also see how the TA Playlist is churning along and perhaps drop a hint of something fresh. As always, we'll also have an interview with the Overahcievers of the previous period and a deeper delve into the stats for the period just finished.

1) Did you play anything you'd recommend this past period?
DANIELJJ14: Nothing noteworthy, I played some Phantom Dust and Giana Sisters but both are repetitive and a bit boring if I'm honest.
Infamous: Shadow Warrior 2, absolute beast of a game. And as a huge fan of Shadow Warrior 1 and the DOOM reboot, this was a no-brainer day 1 purchase for me, highly recommend to anyone who likes.. games. Now I need me some DOOM 2 reboot.. plz E3, be kind..
JimbotUK: Got a few games done and dusted! I was pleasantly surprised by Late Shift, I found the acting and dialogue very amusing (in a bad way) but it was a cleverly thought out game. Definitely looking forwards to playing more FMV games if this becomes a trend
Triple Triad777: Ummm....well...nothing worth noting. A lot of wasted time on some subpar indie games. For instance, The Adventures of Mr.Pumpkin....or manual Samuel. And of course Beyond Eyes, by far the worst wink

2) What is your favorite local co-op game?
DANIELJJ14: Without a doubt Kalimba, getting all those gold totems can be such a struggle though.
Infamous: Local co-op? You need friends for local co-op :’( Nah but I occasionally play the LEGO games with my sisters and have tons of fun, can’t stand those games solo though. Now if only I could convince my sisters to play Chariot or Badland with me..
JimbotUK: Would have to go with Halo 3 after my first midnight release! Was one of the first FPS games I played and was just an awesome experience.
Triple Triad777: My favorite local coop game is definitely any guitar hero. I know they can be played online, but nothing beats joining up with some buds and jamming out. It's always fun to see whose better at guitar!

3) Do you collect vintage games/hardware?
DANIELJJ14: Nope. When you look at how shit some old games control on new consoles, E.g. Rare Replay, it must be even worse trying to play them on inferior consoles with the original control schemes.
Infamous: Nope. Even if I had the money I’m not much of a collector and I tend to just sell things once they become obsolete.
JimbotUK: At this point they have all bit the dust. cry Would have liked to at least held on to the N64, imagine if Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Kong 64 were in Rare Replay! Nintendo pls.
Triple Triad777: Depends on how far back were going. I have an original Atari, that thing is by far the best. If were going for within 10-20 years, i have all the original pokemon games, and quite a collection of cards!

4) What do you think they will name the new Xbox console?
DANIELJJ14: The Xbox One SSS (Smokin' Sick Style!!!)
Infamous: Xbox One Ultimate Edition – DLC sold separately
JimbotUK: Xbox Phantom.
Triple Triad777: Xbox 2....because 2 comes after one. But wait...how did it go from 360 to 1...? Nevermind, i change my guess to Xbox 0. Because there's N0 limit to fun laugh

5) Is there any book you'd like to see made into a game?
DANIELJJ14: Copping out with a comic roll
I guess it would be nice to see a proper The Avengers game, with a reasonable story line. Marvel UA is just ludicrously thrown together to try and shovel in as many villains as possible and Lego The Avengers is probably just another typical Lego game.
Infamous: I’d love to see a WELL MADE Game of Thrones style MMORPG or RTS, RTS would probably be better for GoT but both of these could have huge potential to be insane games! Overall though I think games tend to be much better when they’re not based on books or movies ect.. Just give me a solid RTS and I’ll be happy.
JimbotUK: Stephen Kings Dark Tower series. With maybe Square Enix or Bioware would be pretty awesome.
Triple Triad777: Pretty much every book I have read has become a game. Maybe The Hunger Games? Oh wait, how about making a game about Environmental Science! Then people will truly understand that global warming is real!

6) Anything else you'd like to add?
DANIELJJ14: Here's a funny clip of me playing (failing) Phantom Dust.

JimbotUK: Another streak week bites the dust! Better have them points Handy folks.
Triple Triad777: God Bless UHH! And may all fidget spinners rot to pieces!

  • PERIOD 17 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:
Here we are again with 3 members of Gankers' Reloaded as well as the leader of the Solo side - PhatDaemien.
1) Did you play anything of interest this period?
Mephisto4thewin: Alot of games for quick points so to be honest not really.
Oriole2682: Trials of the Blood Dragon was pretty interesting...and of course a lot of soccer.
PhatDaemien: I was very surprised about how much I liked the story in Blackwood Crossing. I also completed Assassins Creed: The Ezio Collection to finish up the series.
ROGUE 1992: Verdun and NBA playgrounds

2) If Microsoft did away with gamerscore, would you stick with Xbox?
Mephisto4thewin: I'm not sure, I would probably have to look for something else for me to be competitive at. Whether that's League with rogue or something like that. I'd probably give speedrunning a go too as that community is for the most part fantastic.
Oriole2682: I'd probably stop playing but I don't see that happening in the near future.
PhatDaemien: Absolutely. I am not a fan of PlayStation and though I used to do a lot of gaming on my desktop I just don't find it entertaining any more. I can say that if there was no GS tied to it then the ID@Xbox program would not matter to me at all. I would be a AAA title guy only at that point.
ROGUE 1992: I'd probably die. I actually don't know what I would do it's not something I want to think about.

3) Pick a video game you'd love a theme park made for. Why did you chose it?
Mephisto4thewin: I'm going to cheat and say Bioshock but it would need to span the trilogy. The games have theme parks written all over them.
Oriole2682: Hydro Thunder Hurricane because it is mine and many others favorite Xbox game
PhatDaemien: Deadpool! The love boat ride in that game would be a theme park I would pay to ride.
ROGUE 1992: Monster hunter. Cause it's monster hunter they do have a ride sorry of thing at Osaka universal studios but it wasn't open the day I went last month was devestated.

4) What's your most treasured gaming related item?
Mephisto4thewin: Other than my gamertag I would have to say my Mario party collection. I have the first 6 in practically mint condition.
Oriole2682: I had a sealed Gold Nintendo 64 but I can't find it anymore :(
PhatDaemien: Not an item. All of the items are replaceable. My most treasured gaming related thing would be the true friendships that have been forged through gaming. Priceless!
ROGUE 1992: My 2. Fking jackets! My wife who coops shit with me.

5) If you were in a video game, what or who would you be?
Mephisto4thewin: I'd be the last collectible you need to find for a completion
Oriole2682: Hannah Montana as i'm a huge fan and Miley Cyrus is my hero. Even though Miley wasn't too fond of playing Hannah as she grew up, she might not realize that they both preach that strong message just to be yourself and not worry about what those people that judge you think.
PhatDaemien: I got to go with Styx. How could I not want to be a fat green guy that pukes twins and has a perfect sense of humor?
ROGUE 1992: karner as I'm the front line of the team.

6) Do you have anything else to add?
Mephisto4thewin: Can we all just be friends?
Oriole2682: Best cover ever! Not sure why so many neg votes...haters gonna hate...trollers gonna troll

PhatDaemien: I would like to thank all those guys and gals that have taught me so much in the world of achieving. I may be an old dog but I am not afraid to learn new tricks. I would also like to thank everyone involved with putting on these contests and events, I look forward to them tremendously.

Keep on scoring!
ROGUE 1992: I want to applaud vicious for taking achv holics off us last week. As a fan of strategy I enjoyed seeing it. And it was pulled off so well.
