PermalinkGTASC 2017 - Period 43
Hello and welcome to the day we've been waiting for! Its Scorpio Day which means that the lucky midnight purchasers have already unboxed and begun to play on their new consoles. Mine is expected by the end of day today (which means I'll probably see it around 2PM.) Here's hoping you new X1X owners will be having some 4K fun!

Moving beyond today's festivities... we'll check in with the TA Playlist, UHH3, Games with Gold and of course - see what the Overachievers of the previous period had to offer.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:
Available through November 15th:
X1: The Turing Test

Available through November 30th:
X1: Trackmania Turbo

Available November 16th:

360: Deadfall Adventures (1 unobtainable)

We've changed games as the month has moved on. This month the game on tap is The Turing Test which is quite a fast completion and you can find a walkthrough on site. Here's a great example of what we can accomplish with a free, easy game. These stats blow Aliens outta the water!

5,688 gamers are playing - 3,464 started the game - 1,885 completed it - 34,358 achievements were unlocked - 2,234,300 Gamerscore earned - 3,015,202TA points earned

We're only a few days in and well on track to challenge Shadow of Mordor month.

Period 8 of the UHH is now underway. There are 16 matches currently running in the competitive side. Be sure to check them out here:
https://www.trueachievements.com/event/UHH3/matchups

We're also wading through the Just for Fun matches. Unfortunately - many of these have featured 'puddings' as they've affectionately been called. Pudding meaning one if not both members didn't unlock any achievements in their list.

No new winners.

  • PERIOD 42 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
Sitting down with us this period are 2 members of The Godz Reborn as well as the Solo Overachiever - Yinga Garten. More may be added after the fact as this is being worked on earlier than I usually do.
1) Did you play anything you'd recommend this past period
JORAX: Not really, I was focusing on games with a lot of achievements. The Assembly had an interesting story.
Momie: The Town of Light is a pretty standard walking simulator but it touches subjects rarely seen in video games. I started playing the game during lunch time at work and I quickly realized it was NSFW :) The ending is particularly troubling but it was obviously the intention of the developers. Chromagun was very fun also. I thought at first that it was gonna be a cheap Portal knock-off but it ended up being quite enjoyable and funny.
Ow Nitram: I played Slayaway and it’s actually pretty good, Anode was a nice Tetris-like game. Most importantly, I spent a lot of time on Super Mario Odyssey (see #4) but wrong console I guess ;)
Yinga Garten: I went back to Candleman at the beginning of last period as the developers had put out a free DLC. Thankfully the DLC turned out to be just as good as the main game and I personally thought the last chapter was the best of them all. Other than that I was working on games on my list that I have picked up over the year. Games I worked through last period included Seasons After Fall (an average Metroidvania), Octodad: Dadliest Catch (annoying at first but not too bad), Dad Beat Dads (a bare bones multiplayer game), Hue (very good and easy puzzle game), Speedrunners and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. I'd personally recommend Candleman and Hue from that list as both are very enjoyable experiences that I likely wouldn't have played but for this competition.

2) Is there a particular local sight that you'd recommend were someone to be in town?
JORAX: The Space Needle is... actually pretty overrated IMO. Perhaps I'm just cynical after having to take so many friends and family there. The Snoqualmie Falls are really nice.
Momie: I have soft spot for the Olympic Stadium here in Montreal. The summer Olympics games were held there in 1976 and the Montreal Expos used to play there when they were still around. It is a bit controversial here in Quebec because it cost a lot of money to build and it's still expensive to maintain but its architecture is so unique and I'm always amazed by it whenever I pass by.
Ow Nitram: I live in Quebec City, Canada. Visiting the Old Quebec or taking a walk through the Plains of Abraham still have a “wow factor” even after so many years seeing them daily. It’s beautiful, relaxing and rich in history.
Yinga Garten: I hail from Leeds which is in northern England. As a Leeds United fan I'd have to pick Elland Road, its in need of modernisation but that old feel is part of the charm and hopefully it is never traded in for one of these soulless modern bowl stadiums. Of course Leeds has plenty of other places that are worth seeing if you ever happen to visit and aren't a football fan but I'd be here all day. To cut a long story short its ultimately a city on the up.

3) What consoles have you owned through your gaming history? Do any stand out as favorites?
JORAX: NES, SNES, SEGA Genesis, GameCube, Xbox, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii, Xbox One, PS4. Also several handhelds, and some older stuff bought at garage sales (Atari 2600, Intellivision, Colecovision). GameCube had some classics like Pikmin and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, but X360 and X1 have been my most played by far. I'll always have a soft spot for the NES since it really started my gaming obsession.
Momie: In chronological order: Atari 2600, Sega Master System, NES, Sega Genesis, N64, PS2, Xbox, GBA, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One. My favorites are probably the Master System and the 360 of course for the achievements!
Ow Nitram: I owned all Microsoft systems, all Nintendo systems and their Japanese variants (Famicom, Super Famicom, etc.) with the exception of the Virtual Boy, all Sony systems with the exception of the PS2 (ironic) and Dreamcast. Also, I have a WonderSwan but who cares laugh
Yinga Garten: My first console was a PS2 so I'm not that old in terms of gaming experience but I've come to personally own a Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Xbox One and multiple iterations of Game Boys and DS's since then. I've played many games from older consoles too through emulation so I am aware of previous generations highlights. Honestly the Nintendo Wii stands out as a favourite, it was incredible back when I got it in Christmas of 2006 and I've had some of my best gaming experiences on it (the Mario Galaxy series).

4) What is the best game you've played this year? What about it was special?
JORAX: I'd have to go with Cuphead. It is a brilliant homage in some ways, but has completely modern sensibilities in others - overall a great game!
Momie: I'm really going to sound like a broken record but Destiny 2 is currently my favorite so far. It's also one of the very few AAA games I've played this year, focusing more on indie/quick games for the GTASC. The first DLC for D2 comes out almost as the same time that the GTASC concludes, which is great!
Ow Nitram: Super Mario Odyssey is surely GOTY on so many levels, it’s Super Mario 64 ten times better, it’s colorful, it’s everything a 3D platformer should be. Danganronpa V3 is my other personal favorite of the year : amazing, crazy story again, over the top characters, great soundtrack.
Yinga Garten: Even though it came out last year and that was when I started it, my favourite game has to be Forza Horizon 3. Its the pinnacle of racing games for me and caters perfectly for those that prefer simulation racing and those that prefer casual racing. Australia is the perfect setting with its varied climates and locations and the gameplay feels far more involving than the first two. Playground Games put out two quality, substantial expansions for it too which took my playtime well over 100 hours so there is plenty of content. It makes franchises like Need for Speed largely irrelevant now and I don't feel it can be topped... until Horizon 4 next year hopefully.

5) Conversely, which game were you the happiest to uninstall upon completion this year? Why were you happy to see it go?
JORAX: Acorn Assault was pretty terrible, though Hack, Slash & Backstab probably takes first place for worst game I've got 100% on this year.
Momie: Oh boy, We are the Dwarves was terrible. I'm sure the game was kinda okay on the PC but the port to the XB1 was atrocious. Awful controls, UI, baffling story, terrible level design, the list goes on and on :)
Ow Nitram: Eekeemoo is on Big Rigs’ level of awfulness, I have no idea how this game passed the QA, it’s unplayable, what a piece of trash.
Yinga Garten: I've played some truly awful games over the past year for GTASC. I'd like to give honorable mentions to DARK, Brave: A Warrior's Tale and Eekeemoo: Splinters of the Dark Shard. However the winner has to be Jumper: Griffin's Story, a game that looks like it was designed for the PS1 but ranks even lower than the worse games on that console. Its fundamentally broken and totally braindead and has to be avoided at all costs (even by achievement hunters).

6) Were you to have a theme song, what would it be?
JORAX: I'm tempted to link the Donut Song again, but I'll refrain :).
Momie: That is something I never thought about :) Hmm I would say maybe "Don't worry, be happy"? I'm a laid back kinda of guy that tries to not stress too much about things...
Ow Nitram:

Yinga Garten:

7) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
JORAX: Good luck to my teammates still going on the solo side!
Momie: As I'm typing this, my Xbox One X is in transit :) Can't wait to get my hands on this baby later today!
Ow Nitram: Thanks planting and shout out to my team who are really working hard with so little time, a pleasure to compete with them. Congrats to the remaining teams and thanks to the Unicorn killers for an interesting Saturday last week.
Yinga Garten: Shout out to my team, The Original Backloggers, I was very fortunate to land with such a nice team that's gotten pretty far. While our time in the competition is quickly running out I've been very happy with how we've done. Extra thanks to danwood11 who's been very accommodating and become a good gaming buddy over the past year. Thanks to planting42 and zzUrbanSpaceman for hosting the competition this year, its given my scoring a whole new purpose. Finally, congrats to everyone still in the competition, the finish line is in sight!

PermalinkGTASC 2017 - Period 42
Hello and welcome to the countdown. A mere 7 days stand between us and the launch of the Xbox One X. Have you preordered yours? I snagged a Scorpio Edition because I'm a sucker. Still looking for a new game to use my launch Kinect with.

Inside there are some new games with Gold to note, the TA Playlist and UHH to check in with, a shoutout to Extra Life and we'll also check in with the Overachievers from Period 41. After we've run through that we'll settle down for a dose of old fashioned stats.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:
Available through TODAY:
X1: Gone Home: Console Edition

360: Medal of Honor: Airborne
Marketplace Link

Available through November 15th:
X1: The Turing Test

Available November 1st (though there are reports these are available now):
X1: Trackmania Turbo

360: NiGHTS into dreams...

Available November 16th:
X1: Tales from the Borderlands (This includes all episodes)

360: Deadfall Adventures (1 unobtainable)

Its the last day of the month so the time to work on this playlist game is running out rapidly. Its also Halloween so if you want a good a good scare, Aliens should do the trick.

953 gamers ran for their lives. 310 started it with 44 completing it. 7,914 achievements have been unlocked for 122,600 Gamerscore which is worth 256,886 TrueAchievement score. Next month we'll move onto a much simpler completion - that being The Turing Test.

We've now made it to Period 7 of the UHH. There are 32 matchups in the knockout rounds and 366 matches in the Just for Fun rounds. Its not over yet but there have sure been some strong contenders making their mark.

WolfheartSpell started & completed 3 titles to earn themselves the Arcade Game Series 3 pack.

There was a recent donation that's still up for grabs. You have until you are eliminated to make a run for it and any others you may be interested in.

  • PERIOD 40 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
For our fireside chat this period we have 3 members of The Godz Reborn as well as the solo Overachiever - SnipedByAGir1.
1) Did you play anything you'd recommend this past period?
JORAX: I started Embers of Mirrim, and am really enjoying it. I also got around to beating Cuphead, which I recommend everyone tries. Iron Crypticle was another game I started on a whim and got sucked into way more than I expected.
K4rn4ge: This past period I played Rogue Trooper Redux which was pretty fun but still a bit overpriced and outdated. That said, I enjoyed going through the campaign and doing the small handful of online coop achievements with my friend Count Aizen and his buddy.
Momie: Laserlife was pretty cool, kinda trippy game. I also played Wheels of Aurelia, it gets a bit repetitive towards the end of the completion but I like games that try different things and that are genuinely unique. Under Defeat was fun too, I'm not super good at shoot'em up games but this one was very manageable.
Ow Nitram: I spent a lot of time on Overwatch with the ongoing Halloween event to grab the new achievements, good times as always. Also, I did Late Shift, quite impress for a FMV game, it was fun enough.
SnipedByAGir1: I actually really liked Tacoma. Much better than Gone Home in my opinion. Interesting story from what I caught of it, but quite short for me since I skipped most of the story. I'll have to YouTube it sometime.

2) What are your thoughts on crossplay? Should it be open to everyone?
JORAX: More people playing together from more devices is awesome. Why limit things?
K4rn4ge: Cross Play is a nice feature for a game to have so that the player database is even larger but the biggest downside in my opinion is the debate of controller vs. keyboard and mouse. For FPS games it seems like keyboard and mouse would surely be superior, so it wouldn't be as fair for controller users.
Momie: Don't really care for it. It could help some games that have a limited online player base since having people from all consoles playing together would increase the number of players... But given the current state of the market, it's normal that MS wants to go for it and that Sony refuses. I would really prefer cross-saves in Destiny 2 between the Xbox and PC versions :)
Ow Nitram: I’m all for it, I’m really happy Microsoft and Nintendo agree on that matter, the more the merrier. Not a fan of mouse/keyboard for multiplayer competitive but as long there’s some kind of control to avoid being match with PC user, I’m fine. Sony, on the other hand, with the “For the children” argument to decline Microsoft & Nintendo’s offer…whatever.
SnipedByAGir1: I don't really mind crossplay. Guess it depends on the game. Usually if I'm doing something online, I'm boosting though so not really looking to play with someone on another platform.

3) Which current gen game has the best soundtrack?
JORAX: I love Cuphead's soundtrack, simply because of how much it fits in with the art style and theme of the game. Ori and the Blind Forest is better overall though, as far as my auditory enjoyment goes.
K4rn4ge: This is a tough one since I love playing retro or retro inspired games, most with chiptune soundtracks but one of my favorites has to be the soundtrack from Shovel Knight.
Momie: It's probably because it's the game I've played the most but the Destiny soundtrack holds a special place in my heart. Whenever I hear the Sepiks Prime theme, it always brings me back to one of the most classic boss fights of year 1 Destiny! (
)
Ow Nitram: Danganronpa V3 : Killing Harmony is amazing. Super Mario Odyssey is pretty great but at the moment of writing this, I didn’t spend a lot of time. Otherwise, the OST of the current gen games are pretty average, Halo 5 was good from what I remember.

*Current gen refers to PS4, Switch & Xbox One even if Nintendo 3DS, PS Vita & WiiU should be current gen and Switch next gen in theory. For the sake of argument, the Ace attorney & Fire Emblem series have the best soundtrack, no doubt.
SnipedByAGir1: I really liked the songs from Florence + the Machine for Final Fantasy XV.

4) Would you rather be limited by time or money with regards to gaming?
JORAX: I think I'd rather be limited by money, because that would mean I have plenty of free time. Between work, home stuff, playing for several soccer teams, and trying to keep my wife tolerating my gaming habit, that is not always the case. Then again, being limited by money would probably stop me from playing bad or easy games for GS/TA, making me less competitive in GTASC...
K4rn4ge: I would rather be limited by money because I already have an insane backlog already. There's never enough time in the day!
Momie: Time without a doubt. It's my current situation and while I would like to have more time to play, having plenty of time to play but no money to buy the games that I want sounds way worse!
Ow Nitram: At the moment, I’d rather be limited by money and have A LOT more time, must have around +2000 games backlog. At the same time, I couldn’t afford all my Japanese imports without money over all systems laugh
SnipedByAGir1: Maybe money ... If I was limited by money I would not be playing this ACA BS and I would instead be playing really good, time consuming games laugh.

5) Assuming you aren't a professional gamer by trade, what's your day job?
JORAX: I work as a Producer on Minecraft. Yes, at Microsoft. No, I can't get you free stuff.
K4rn4ge: Nothing too interesting - just typical office work!
Momie: I'm not a professional gamer but I work in the industry. I'm a programmer at Ubisoft Montreal. I've worked on almost all the Splinter Cell games and my latest shipped game is Watch Dogs 2. You could say that I'm an old timer since my first released game was a N64 title :)
Ow Nitram: I passed the bar exam a year ago, civil lawyer in fields related to labour laws, industrial accidents, civil responsibility. I’m currently doing my master degree in international law (international contract, copyrights, etc. with emphasis on Asia-Pacific region, mostly Japan) since this subject isn’t taught during the bachelor degree.
SnipedByAGir1: I wish I was a professional gamer by trade, but instead I'm an electrical patent examiner. Have a degree in electrical systems engineering. I get to work from home most of the time though so that's a super perk.

6) What video game baddie would you least want to find headed your way in a dark alley?
JORAX: Probably Sephiroth from FF7. Between his deadly Masamune skills, and the fact that he's part alien and can basically make clones of himself using his own DNA, I feel like he'd be a scary. Also the whole meteor-summoning thing could be problematic.
K4rn4ge: Recently, after completing the new Overwatch Junkensteins Revenge achievements, I would have to say that the baddie I would least want to encounter in a dark alley would be that damn Roadhog Junkensteins Monster dude. I can't tell you how many times he one shotted us with his RNG bullshit but we finally prevailed and managed to get all of those limited time achievements!
Momie: Probably a Mancubus from the latest DOOM... They're so fat, you won't even be able to run around them!
Ow Nitram: I don’t remember any baddie being scary but the first time that ugly monkey face Andross popped out of nowhere at the end of StarFox 64 when I was younger was quite the jump scare.
SnipedByAGir1: Ugh, anything from Silent Hill. Any of those dolls from Emily Wants to Play. Slenderman ... do you see my trend??

7) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
JORAX: This competition is getting intense - the back and forth battle for badges with Vicious and Delicious has been crazy! Big shout out to my team for continuing to kick ass and be supportive. Also, congrats to the 5 teams who have now passed the 1 million TA milestone on the team side!
Momie: It's pretty fun to see the stakes steadily rise as the number of teams still in the competition gets lower and lower. Can't wait for the madness that will be the last few weeks!
Ow Nitram:

SnipedByAGir1: Super happy we're reaching the final weeks of the competition. Congrats to all the teams that have made it this far. Are we tired yet people??

PermalinkGTASC 2017 - Period 41
Hello and welcome to the 'Where's my Gamerscore?' edition of the GTASC recap. That's right. The missing GS bug has struck me big time. Something in the 40K range seems to have disappeared which gives me quite the snazzy ratio. Thankfully the achievements themselves show as expected (unlocked) but when viewed as a whole, the game library doesn't sync with the achievements properly. For example - I completed The Food Run (Win 10) but when you look at my games on Xbox - it shows much less than 1000G. Thanks to that, TA can't scan the achievements. This seems to be hitting Windows 10 and Xbox One games only - which is a good thing if you need to save streaks at least... play on WP, Win 8, GfWL or your 360. If this happens to you, never fear! Time will fix this but jumping through hoops like removing and recovering your profile will not. It will return sooner rather than later from what many have experienced.

Check a video here by BiLLzuMaNaTi that discusses the bug:

Here's a thread here on TA that delves into it: Missing over 25k from my Gamerscore since yesterday

Available through November 15th:
X1: The Turing Test

We're nearing the end of the month which means its time to get your last Xenomorph kills in before we take the Turing Test. Good thing its soon to be free wink

790 gamers hate aliens. 243 started it with 34 completing it. 6,333 achievements have been unlocked for 97,400 Gamerscore which is worth 202,472 TrueAchievement score. Next month should be quite the achievement explosion considering how simple it is.

We've now made it to Period 6 of the UHH. There are 64 matchups in the knockout rounds and 345 matches in the Just for Fun rounds. Keep those achievements poppin!

No new winners. The end is fast approaching so if you want to have a chance at these... time is short.

  • BONUS RECAP:
17 Individuals won the final bonus of the contest - which involved spelling out the alphabet in its entirety using the first character of newly unlocked achievements. Several missed out by only 1 or 2 letters though they were the rarer ones. Here are those that did finish the task:
That means that Thrash Forever has completed the set of bonuses offered to the Solo side and for that earned the 'Quite the Collection' bonus for earning all bonuses on offer this year.

  • PERIOD 40 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
For our fireside chat this period we have 3 members of Vicious and Delicious as well as the solo Overachiever - xSTAGGERxLEEx.
1) Did you play anything memorable this past period?
Danno Omen: Id like to say Divinity Original Sin because ive wanted to play it since it came out,but i dont think i can say being in the game while a friend loads it up counts as playing. Decay The Maire was pretty interesting and a quick completion.
SnipedByAGir1: Um Armikrog was ok. My buddy helped us with some Divinity: Original Sin and it makes me really want to go back and actually play that game.
Stevano61 PB2A: Nothing too memorable. Wish Decay - The Mare was a bit longer though.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: Not so much, was tired of being a bridesmaid in the solo so I pushed hard and played crap so I could take first at least once on the solo side. My team had done it a few times, but I hadn't taken down 1st on the solo side. Damn VD and Gods pushing each other made me play more than I really wanted for 1st, but when you want something you go get it, you don't ride the coat tails of other people. At least that's what I try to teach my kids. If you want it, work for it.

2) What is your favorite non-Xbox game?
Danno Omen: Diablo 2 or The Sims Online. I sunk way too much time into both of those games and i never really played console games much until the 360.
SnipedByAGir1: Oh I have a couple. I really love the Zelda series, Final Fantasy games that were exclusive to PlayStation. Cards Against Humanity is an awesome way to spend an evening with friends.
Stevano61 PB2A: The MLB: The Show franchise. A real shame there's no proper MLB-licensed game on Xbox that could get somewhat on it's level so that we're not missing out.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: This does not compute. But really, I love playing anything my kids dream up that doesn't require a screen. Family is all that really matters so any game/life time with them is the best non-xbox game ever.

3) Are you 4K ready? Are you planning on getting the Xbox One X? If yes, is there a game in particular you are looking forward to playing that's being enhanced?
Danno Omen: I am 4k ready. Once the X got announced and was for sure 4k i went out and made sure to buy a 4k tv so that i didnt have to shell out the money for both the tv and xbox all at once. Im not interested in anything specifically but ill probably hold off on playing Wolfenstein until the X comes out.
SnipedByAGir1: I am not 4K ready. My husband and I got a nice big TV for the basement a couple of years ago and at the time 4K just didn't blow us away to warrant the extra cost. That and nothing was being broadcast in 4K at the time. I'm still getting an Xbox One X though. Pre-ordered the Scorpio edition. I'm wondering if there will be games exclusive to the X ...
Stevano61 PB2A: Nope, i'm not rich by any means. Don't have a 4K TV, won't get one for a while most likely, and with that said, no real point in getting the Xbox One X as I wouldn't be able to fully utilise it's power. We'll see in the future
xSTAGGERxLEEx: I am not. I don't think I will get an Xbox One X any time soon. I cant think of any game I am clamoring to spend $500 on a new system and who knows how much on a new tv just so it can be in 4k and be that much more pretty looking, I will wait till 4k tvs come down and the system proves itself, now that we will have what 3 versions of the xbox one? As it nears the holiday season I could think of a lot better things to spend that money on than selfishly buying myself yet another gaming system when I have multiple that work great. I am sure my kids need some clothes, best gift ever at xmas... NEW UNDIES!!! Kids are going to love it.

4) Is there anything you won't do for gamerscore?
Danno Omen: This year no not really but before this year and after this year ill go back to only playing games i want to play regardless of the gamerscore. No more ACA for me!
SnipedByAGir1: Nope ... as long as it's legal lmao.
Stevano61 PB2A: I don't play every game laugh. If it doesn't appeal to me, I won't play it. The games I do have, I've always had the philosophy that if I can get every achievement possible, I can. I won't go too far out of my skill level to get every achievement. Example being stuff like Infinite Setlist on Expert in Rock Band 2, or FIFA's 4 wins in an online Draft session because I know I wouldn't win. I don't fuss too much on my completion percentage.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: Playing more than 2 telltale games at once, anymore than that and I am sure my head might explode it just makes my headspin, I mean how DO you handle that, pause, pick up next controller, pause, pick up next controller, pause... rinse and repeat, man the acrobatics needed to make that happen must be entertaining to watch.

5) Which vehicle from video gaming would you most want to have in your garage?
Danno Omen: I have no idea. Since im a history guy id probably say a tiger tank, does that count?
SnipedByAGir1: When FFXV came out there was a contest for a chance to when a special edition Final Fantasy XV Regalia Audi A8. I would totally drive that car. Apparently you can buy it for $480K, but I guess I'll stick with my Honda Pilot for now.
Stevano61 PB2A: Every luxury car in Forza! wink Gaming specific vehicle, it's gotta be Halo's Warthog.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: Warthog might be really fun. I would totally just let my kids have the keys and be like try not to run over too many people, I mean it cant be street legal so who cares if they drive?

6) Which game would you call your least fun completion and why?
Danno Omen: Any ACA game cause they suck to me. I dont think ive had any bigger retail release that ive ever been fully disappointed in.
SnipedByAGir1: Any of this painful ACA crap. I'd seriously rather boost something for hours on end instead of clean up my backlog of ACA I have now.
Stevano61 PB2A: The very crappy ACA Neogeo titles I have done.... except Overtop. I liked that one.
xSTAGGERxLEEx: Game of Thrones Telltale. I haven't watched the show yet, waiting for it to be over so I can binge, but the game itself was just agonizing to play, I liked the story, but the worst telltale... wait, if I had finished back to the future that might take the cake. I am sure I have worse completions, but I hated the GoT, I hated myself enough to stack the POS.

7) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Danno Omen: Congrats to Godz and team finnish(him) for completing every bonus. I wish we could have got it as well but we got screwed with the double TA score bonus a week after scoring 67k as we tried to stop Gankers lol. Not much we could do about that. Getting every bonus is a big accomplishment.
SnipedByAGir1: Godz you kept it fun again for another week. I also look forward to all the sleep and RPGs coming my why in December laugh.
Stevano61 PB2A: We just lost a very talented musician here in Canada. For those of you who read this and haven't listened to Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip, I encourage you to do so.

"Did you ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he put on a dress and played a girl bunny?" Some of life's most important questions also are the most bizarre. With that said, what is happening in the world of TA?

Alien: Isolation is what we've been working through this month. Hopefully you have been churning out achievements and not chestbusters.

629 gamers were blasting away. 182 started it and 21 completed it. 4,634 achievements have been unlocked for 69,695 Gamerscore which is worth 140,413 TrueAchievement score. Still a slow game compared to other selections.

Its that time again. Vote on which game you wish to play next after checking out the article announcing them here:
Vote Now for November 2017's TA Playlist Game

The games up for vote this month are:
Firewatch
Inside
Ori and the Blind Forest
The Turing Test

We've now made it to the Knockout rounds. Anyone that didn't make the cut that elected to continue to the Just for Fun rounds has been given their first list. As the knockouts happen, the losers can also join the JFF round and continue getting lists. Just for Fun continues until there is a crowned champion in the Knockouts.

  • BONUS RECAP:
7 teams won the 'Alphamatised' bonus which asked them to end the period with their scoring being alphabetical by teammate (A-Z highest to lowest)
Vicious and Delicious
The Godz Reborn
Victorious Secret
We Got This! v3
It's Raining Hell Dawgs and Krazie Munkehs
Team Finnish(him)
Dirk Gently and the Rowdy Three

That also means that the following 2 teams have earned all bonuses on offer which grants them each an extra bonus for completing the set.
The Godz Reborn
Team Finnish(him)

The final bonus for the Individual contest is currently running. Its time to spell the English alphabet using the 1st character of newly unlocked achievements. No apps and no special characters if you want to pull this off.

No new winners. The end is fast approaching so if you want to have a chance at these... time is short.

  • PERIOD 39 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
For our fireside chat this period we have 4 members of Vicious and Delicious as well as the solo Overachiever - Weredog51.
1) Did you play anything you'd recommend this past period?
Danno Omen: Actually a game i failed to mention before (at least i think i failed to mention it before) is Aven Colony. If you like sim city type games then this is definitely something you need to try.
oxy71: I played something I do not recommend, bulb boy. Don’t do it!
SnipedByAGir1: Well Tokyo 42 looked sorta interesting. I quit pretty quick though. Played some more Earthlock and I still really like that game. Fitting in an old school RPG is nice.
Stevano61 PB2A: Canadian Football 2017! Gotta love sports games without the license. In reality, when I first heard of the game, I thought it was stupid and pointless.... but when it went Games with Gold on the One and I tried it, Goat Simulator was actually really fun! Even got the DLC's.... so I went back and played the Payday DLC, and then started the stack on 360.
Weredog51: Enjoyed Injustice 2 and Cabela's African Adventures until the Shooting gallery.

2) What one food do you absolutely detest? (thanks discussion thread smile)
Danno Omen: Well im picky as hell so there is a lot lol but the worst thing to me is mushrooms and peanut butter. The sight of both just disgust me.
oxy71: I’m a weirdo, pork.
SnipedByAGir1: I really dislike cold tofu. Also cilantro. I can handle cilantro in small amounts if it's mixed with something, but ... UGH!
Stevano61 PB2A: Squash.... I even hate the smell of it when it's being cooked in the oven for certain dishes.
Weredog51: Brussel Sprouts. Gross.

3) Do you have a game on your tag you want to complete but never get around to? What is it?
Danno Omen: Final Fantasy 15 is what comes to mind for me. Its probably the first game i get back to once GTASC is over for me.
oxy71: Fallout 4
SnipedByAGir1: I really want to play and finish Final Fantasy XIII. Actually all of the Final Fantasy games on my tag that I just can't play this year cry.
Stevano61 PB2A: Call of Duty: World at War. I had really, really poor internet back in that time, so getting 10th prestige would have taken me years. I'm not even 2nd prestige, so I doubt I'll ever really finish it.
Weredog51: Way too many for this question but the Gears of War series comes to mind.

4) How do you feel about microtransactions? Is it ok to buy skins but not items or is buying a completion acceptable? *cough* Touchdown Hero: New Season (Win 8)
Danno Omen: I hate the fact that companies put microtransactions into games but at the same time i have used them in the past. Id rather see them gone but while they are in if it saves me some time and is cheap enough ill still buy the completion/achievement.
oxy71: Not a fan of micro transactions. I do use them but I vomit each time I do.
SnipedByAGir1: Yeah I'll buy a completion. I hate that developers make those types of games and give you that option though. But I paid for Touchdown Heroes. No way was I actually playing that garbage if I didn't have to.
Stevano61 PB2A: Bought an achievement that won a period in the final minutes a couple week ago, so can't say that I'm against it at all. Plus, your example in the question is exactly what we used earlier in the year to great effect.
Weredog51: *Cough* Totally didn't use that example this week *Cough* I don't like that some games you can buy a completion but I understand some shortcuts could be helpful for some who don't have as much time.

5) Do you have any current gaming goals? completion %, ratio, TA, GS, etc?
Danno Omen: Honestly the only goal right now is to win GTASC,everything else kinda falls in line with winning it,though my ratio has certainly taken a hit from this year lol
oxy71: Do better in GTASC than we did two years ago.
SnipedByAGir1: I want to hit 500K GamerScore. Hoping that happens next week. I set a goal to hit 525K by the end of the year, but I'll be way over that by year end laugh.
Stevano61 PB2A: Getting pretty close to 600, 000 TA, might even have it by the time this Q+A is read. Other than that, I don't have any set goals right now outside of trying to win this competition with my great team.
Weredog51: 500,000G by the end of the year is mine.

6) What video game would you want to be placed into and what would you be?
Danno Omen: Ive never ever thought about this lol,i guess id say Assassin's Creed because it would be pretty cool to go back and relive some of the other eras in history through the animus.
oxy71: Oh my, um i would have to say bioshock. The game is beautiful and being a big daddy would be amazing.
SnipedByAGir1: I would be the main protagonist of Dragon Origins and I would be the Queen of Ferelden of course.
Stevano61 PB2A: It'd be awesome to be Alan Wake in Alan Wake and fight off the enemies with a flashlight. Or the avatar that drives a Lamborghini in Forza!
Weredog51: Definitely not Gears of War! With my luck I'd be a Carmine! laugh I guess I would be a Crazy Earl type NPC in a Borderlands game.

7) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Danno Omen: Congrats to Godz for breaking one of our streaks it was a big push by them and much respect to them. Also i thought id throw an idea out for discussion. A lot of talk on podcasts and such lately have revolved around achievements and if they arent really important anymore to most gamers. I had a thought about MS using a reward system kind of like Youtube. When a youtuber hits so many subscribers they give them a..trophy?Im not quite sure what you'd call it,but i thought it would be cool if MS would give out milestone achievements for certain milestones as a gamer. I know it will probably never happen, but it would still be cool i think! Would be interested to hear others takes on it.
SnipedByAGir1: Kudos to Godz putting up some insane achievements last week. Like loads. Good times!
Stevano61 PB2A: Don't feed the trolls. NEVER feed the trolls.
Weredog51: Thanks for running this great competition every year Planting. Good luck everyone in the weeks to come.

PermalinkGTASC 2017 - Period 39
Celebrate good times, Come on!

Here we are with another look at what's happening in the GTASC, the Games with Gold program as well as a look around TA.

  • GAMES WITH GOLD:
Available through October 15th:
X1: OXENFREE
Marketplace Link
360: Rayman 3 HD
Marketplace Link

Available through October 31st:
X1: Gone Home: Console Edition
Marketplace Link

Available October 16th:
X1: The Turing Test
360: Medal of Honor: Airborne

Alien: Isolation is on our collective plates. A little over a week into the month, here is what the TA community has accomplished. Only 9 have completed it since last recap so this seems to be a slow burner like Dark Souls.

463 gamers played the creepfest. 127 started it and 15 completed it. 3,126 achievements have been unlocked for 47,120 Gamerscore which is worth 94,489 TrueAchievement score.

The final period of Group Stage is now in progress. Are you still in the running for the Knockout stages? Remember the top 256 move on to the Head to Head proper. Also, you needed to have met certain conditions upon registration so anyone that doesn't have a green checkmark on the leaderboard will not move into the Head to Head mode. That means there are 17 folks below the 256 line that will make it into Eliminations as of the time I write this. As we saw today, we can stay in the Just for Fun competition (and receive more matches) even if eliminated from the Knockout rounds.

  • BONUS RECAP:
What's the Point? was the bonus on tap last period and it required Individuals to unlock at least 7 - 0G achievements. 19 were able to complete it.
This period the Teams are tasked with Alphamatised. Its one of the bonuses added by the winners of last year. It requires you to end the period with your teams order of scoring also being alphabetical by gamertag. (need 5) (A-Z High to Low scoring so gamer A should score the most and Z the least) This may mess with teams that have a member who isn't as active as the others.

No new winners.

  • PERIOD 38 OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEWS:
This period we have most of Vicious and Delicious along with us as well as the Solo Overachiever.
1) Did you play anything you'd recommend last period?
Danno Omen: Its starting to get hard to remember what i played what period since we are playing so many different games. The only thing that sticks out to me from last week is NBA 2K18. I love how this franchise, and sports games in general have started to embrace making campaigns with a story,it makes them that much more enjoyable to me.
DaXXaa: I really liked The Assembly, so that game would i recommend.
oxy71: totally addicted to plague inc.
SnipedByAGir1: I started playing This is the Police last week. Didn't get too far into it, because I wasn't getting many achievements in it, but I was really intrigued by the game. Sort of a police station sim, while having to deal with the mob on the side too. I'll definitely go back to this one once this competition is over.
Stevano61 PB2A: Thanks to the wonderful spelling bonus, I highly recommend WHEELS OF AURELIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In all seriousness, NHL 18 yet again! (I cannot stress this enough), Madden 18, FIFA 18 & Forza Horizon 3 are all wonderful in their own way and need to be played by everyone.

2) Do you play anything 'just for fun'? If so, what is your guilty pleasure?
Danno Omen: Lately no,the time for playing for fun was up months ago now that GTASC is getting down to the elite teams and scoring as much as possible is a must. I dont really have a specific game or franchise that is my guilty pleasure but i guess the closest thing would be the NBA 2K franchise.
DaXXaa: That would be Guitar hero games. I´m just playing on medium/high level just for fun and enjoy to be able to interact with good music that I like.
oxy71: Trivia with friends
SnipedByAGir1: I play all games just for fun laugh. There's just some games I have way more fun playing than others. I really want to get back to playing the Final Fantasy series.
Stevano61 PB2A: For fun? My team would call me hypocritical if I didn't say NHL..... but a game I completed a long time ago, and a game I still enjoy for fun is Slender: The Arrival. Still on my Hard Drive and it's not going anywhere.

3) What is your favorite comfort food? Gaming takes its toll on us you know...
Danno Omen: Anything to do with a potato lol. My girlfriend gets sick of me making them all the damn time but i could literally eat some form of potatoes every night and be happy.
DaXXaa: Taco. I love it and it´s easy to prep so It´s enough for the whole weekend so I have more time to game.
oxy71: Ice cream but trying to be good so haven’t had it in a while
SnipedByAGir1: I like to snack out on dill pickle crispers. Usually when I'm gaming I forget to eat though ...
Stevano61 PB2A: I'd rather not eat when I game. Don't wanna have greasy thumbsticks. Outside of gaming, I enjoy chips.

4) What made you chose your gamerpic?
Danno Omen: My gamerpic comes from the first Medal of Honor, and it was i believe only available in canada so it was a pretty unique one and ive just never changed it.
DaXXaa: It is almost an exact a copy of me, if I would be a cartoon figure. It was an obvious picture for me.
oxy71: It’s me lol
SnipedByAGir1: My 360 gamerpic is Mass Effect. My favorite game so easy choice. My Xbox One pic is my favorite impromptu selfie I took with my kids when I was trying to lay down on the couch and they decided to jump on me.
Stevano61 PB2A: Microsoft's selection on the One isn't that great for gamerpics. Definitely can't find one that's unique, so I just uploaded a picture of myself from the Honda Indy Toronto 2014. Was a great day.

5) How would you say your gaming has changed since visiting TA?
Danno Omen: Honestly im not sure TA has changed my gaming so much so as GTASC has changed it. I used to never care about achievement lists and would just buy whatever interests me,but now because of GTASC i am checking daily for new games with easy achievements for quick points. I used to say id never put Avatar, fallout pc etc etc on my card but this comp has made me do said things.
DaXXaa: Completely. It really boosted my interest for hunting achievements. And just not only for achievements but also news in general for games.
This has also led me to open up my mind for much more games and genres.
oxy71: Was less then 20k ta score when I found this site. Now it’s an addiction.
SnipedByAGir1: I find I don't start a lot of new games anymore, unless people have started updating achievement tags, providing solutions or walkthroughs. Luckily with this community all of that happens in pretty short order.
Stevano61 PB2A: How has it changed.... well I certainly have more achievements, that's for sure! The TA scoring system is sort of addicting too, when it comes to seeing achievement values.

6) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Danno Omen: A big congrats to the top 3 teams overall on reaching over 1 million TA so far. That is a huge number and massive accomplishment. Good job team on another week.
DaXXaa: It´s my first year in GTASC and I have really liked it. It´s a fun challenge for me to be consistent and stay over the line each week.
oxy71: Four weeks in first is pretty cool
SnipedByAGir1: I still love my team smile
Stevano61 PB2A: Winter is coming.
