PermalinkGTASC 2019: Period 13 (The Unlucky Period)
Hello everyone and welcome to another take of the events of the last week. As some of you are probably aware, there was a recent bugfix on TA that caused another massive week of decay. We've seen it already thanks to Gears 5 and Borderlands 3, but this one seemed like a wave almost as it affected (effected? never get those right) older games and those with some recent DLC such as Iceborne for Monster Hunter: World were impacted pretty harshly. They don't call 13 an unlucky number for nothin' I guess laugh

  • BONUS RECAP:

Last period the bonus was for the Individual side and it tasked them with quite a rough one given how the elimination has been... the bonus was High Jump which asked contestants to end the period with at least 3,000 TA Difference earned. Given the site recalculates overnight (well, from my perspective at least) many of us go to sleep and wonder how much we lost. Come morning, these 114 came through the fog standing tall on the required score.
*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***
The bonus has returned to the Team side with another simple task. 50/50 Vision which requires each teammate to unlock at least one 50G achievement with a timestamp this period. Some seem to think its too easy so maybe next time we'll shoot for 50 - 50G's laugh Remember, you can use your 'Easy Achievement' and filter the gamerscore to 50G to make this easier.

No winners this period.

  • OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:

As the celebrations came to an end, I was able to get Tropan and Spirochaete of Spiro and two women aside to ask them a few questions. Here's what they had to say.
1) What pushed you to 1st place last period?
Spirochaete: I knew early in the week we'd win the period again. But since the bonus was for 6000 GS, and easy games are not the girls' thing, it was my time to step up and score the bulk of that. And I went past that to see we got the badge for best TA score, narrowly missing it the week before. I had evil plans to make the girls both play Fallout 3 PC to compete for the total achievements badge, but I'm glad we didn't give into my greedy ambition lol.
Tropan: I can initially blame the 1st place on MS Rewards, for getting me to start Minecraft for the 10k Quest. Then I figured may as well go for broke with the Win10 stack, and a few other easy grabs, because this was only going to happen once!

2) Did you play anything that you'd recommend last week?
Spirochaete: I tried to do We Were Here, the correct way, co op with a friend. But we got basically nowhere when he was lost in the maze forever. Then I double boxed alone, two and a half playthroughs, and got it all done in less than an hour.
Tropan: I started Below and have to say it was surprisingly fun, the gem of the week!

3) What would you say is the most memorable boss fight you've beat? What about it keeps it in your memory to today?
Spirochaete: Does the van in Kane & Lynch count (lol nope).
True answer is:
WarframeBlack Seed Scourge IVThe Black Seed Scourge IV challenge in WarframeFinal Challenge: defeat the Juggernaut Behemoth in Eris’ Assassination mission to total 10 points

Back when there were more xb1 challenges, a TA buddy and I worked our way up the leaderboards. This one required shooting at a bullet sponge huge green thing for over an hour, even while getting carried by a high-level random. My friend lagged out and disconnected. Then the random had a power outage. Just me, running out of ammo and health. Got it down, had to run to the end, through the lag. Then had the achievement silent unlock, but it was there.
Tropan: Most memorable boss fight, Sephiroth. That game was my first exposure to a new console since my NES, which I never used much. The FFVII hype at that time is one major main reason I got heavily into console gaming so you can lump this into one of my favorite games of all time too, just because of the impact. StarCraft is right there as well.

4) What is your favorite game of all time? What about it makes it special?
Spirochaete: Since I highlighted KOF last week, let's talk about Street Fighter III. The original or 2nd Impact, the first upgrade (I NEVER liked 3rd Strike as much as these two). They're special because they couldn't be done on the current gen (PS1 or Saturn) in 1997. We had to wait until 2000 for them finally to appear on the Dreamcast in the US.
Tropan: [[see previous question]]

5) What are the origins of your gamertag?
Spirochaete: There is a story and a definition. But I keep it low key. I will say the short version is pronounced Spyro (the dragon), not Spearow (the Pokemon).
Tropan: Been gaming ever since I can recall, first memory was Captain Comic for DOS. Shortly after, I discovered MUD's, so many different worlds, all of them text based adventures with great interactions with real people. Always have to create a new character, usually with backgrounds and such....Tropan originated in one of these very first experiences, some Half Giant Stone-Thrower character, no idea what the game was though

6) What game have you spent the most time playing ever and what about it keeps your interest?
Spirochaete: Let's say Killer Instinct. I played it the first week the xb1 launched, it's my highest TA score game, and I gotta get back to grinding it out.
Tropan: Today, no game holds my attention like when I was a kid. After MUD's, I spent most of my gaming time on MMO's through the years, loved the interactions and world building. Guild Wars became my favorite and last, but played every one I could. StarCraft recieved a huge amount of time, When console fever hit me, it just became game after game after game.

7) Who is your favorite hero across any game/platform? What about them makes them stand out to you?
Spirochaete: Nobody, honestly. Because gaming is about what I can achieve, not getting caught up in a fictional world. But shout-outs to Asura because he's angry and Ukyo Tachibana who coughs like he's dying and has women chase him around.
Tropan: Favorite Hero, Master Chief. Mostly silent and stoic protagonist, you never see him so you can easily put yourself into that armor and just wreck everything in your way. Also Duke Nukem, for similar reasons obviously, and his one liners! (Who btw, is an ordained minister, if you want to get married by the Duke!)

8) Is there any game or genre you won't put on your gamertag?
Spirochaete: The only games I would never play are those that I can't, due to online-only achievements that are now discontinued. Quick list then: Tiger Woods '06, 1 vs. 100, Crackdown: Project Sunburst, Alto's Adventure, and a few others.
Tropan: I'll play nearly anything nowadays, especially if it's contest related. I stay away from Sports and Racing if I can. Not much interest.

9) Which video game sidekick would you want at your side in a fight?
Spirochaete: Let's go with Poison, who appeared as an NPC to Hugo in SFIII: 2nd Impact. (S)he became a playable character much later in the SF series. The two are featured on a 360 turbo controller I still use.
Tropan: Videogame sidekick, AJ. I want AJ from the walking dead protecting me in a fight, especially if the world ends. Boom, Headshot!

10) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Spirochaete: Look, these girls are the picture and I am the frame that holds us together. We are gamers with three very different personalities and different gaming habits, skills, and goals. And the girls are the true winners of this contest because they get to hang out with me and my sparkling charisma. I am stoked and appreciative of what we've achieved over these three months.
Tropan: Anything else...When grinding away on those boring achievements, give the Achievement Hunting 101 Podcast or Real Gamerscore Podcast a listen, or join their discords, great groups of achievement oriented people, talking about the daily struggles and dare I say fun of our hobby.

Shameless Von Coin plug. (start sales pitch) If you haven't checked it out, you can actually earn real physical gaming oriented loot based off your achievements, costs you nothing, lose nothing. I've won Art Prints, Nerd Culture Books, Shirts, Mug, Star Wars USB Charger, there are tons of games, controllers, headphones etc. No phony salesman pitch intended :D, TrueAchievements approved! (end sales pitch)

PermalinkGTASC 2019: Period 12 (3 K Moar!)
Howdy and welcome to another recap of the goings-on in the GTASC. That's right, all your juicy statistics as well as words of wisdom from the chart toppers last period are all included for your reading pleasure.

This will be abbreviated today as I'm tired, mentally exhausted and to be honest, ashamed at some of the comments that have been flung around the discussion thread as of late. I'll use this soapbox to remind folks that there are forum rules and frustration or confusion doesn't give anyone the right to bend or break those rules. That's exactly why the discussion thread was locked for a few hours today. If you have issues with another contestant - making derogatory posts about them in the discussion thread is NOT the way to handle your emotions. Filling the thread with the crap that it saw today is not and will not be tolerated. Either write me a message, a DM or just keep it to yourself until you calm down. If you'd like my Discord info, feel free to ask and I'll gladly accept any requests. I've not removed anyone for disruptions yet but if the thread goes off again like it did today, rest assured any members chiming in will quickly be shown the door.

  • BONUS RECAP:
125 Teams were able to earn at least 6,000GS last period. None of these teams went out so all of them get to keep their shiny new badge.
*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***

To be awarded soonish.

This period the bonus has returned to the Solo side. The task is another straightforward if not simple request: earn at least 3,000 points (TA Difference) in the period. Last period it was a push for pure gamerscore, this period the ratio is more important. Get those low hanging high ratios and profit!

ZaeloRae was partying it up and high fiving folks to earn a copy of Scene It: Box Office Smash.

  • OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:

This period we have the beast of Borderlands, the Solo charttopper himself: RuneSlayer4421. We've also got a representative of Spiro and two women here to offer words of wisdom from the Team side.
1) What pushed you to 1st place last period?
RuneSlayer4421: Borderlands 3 coming out and deciding to no-life it was basically all I had to do.
Spirochaete: I call it a comedy of errors. A combination of new releases, wild mysterious recalcs, swings and misses on the badges, and one of us nursing an injury. TLDR: puck luck and good teammates.

2) Did you play anything that you'd recommend last week?
RuneSlayer4421: Borderlands 3 is going to be the GOTY, super fun, mechanics are so good, and Mayhem modes make for almost endless replayability.
Spirochaete: My brief review of Hellblade is it's both a great game and overrated. A headset does add to the experience, but it was even better the second time through without one.

3) Now that Gears 5 and Borderlands 3 are behind us, is there any upcoming release you’re eagerly waiting for?
RuneSlayer4421: Doom Eternal.
Spirochaete: Nah, unless the Samurai Shodown Collection releases this Fall. I don't play many AAA games, thus the only other thing I can't wait for is the next ACA NEO or Ratalaika title.

4) What brought you to TrueAchievements originally?
RuneSlayer4421: Random achievement hunting while I had some down time when I was stationed in Japan.
Spirochaete: Gaming sessions. And the women.

5) What do you consider your proudest gaming accomplishment?
RuneSlayer4421: Currently, getting everything in Borderlands 3 done.
Spirochaete: As much as I want to say the survival achievements in Dead or Alive 4, the correct answer is owning the Xbox One challenges leaderboard.

6) If you could recommend everyone play one game, regardless of platform, what would it be? What makes it so special to you?
RuneSlayer4421: Borderlands as a whole series. It started the looter shooter genre and it's so good for countless playthroughs. It's the only game other than Rocket League I've bought on multiple platforms.
Spirochaete: I wish this community could see The King of Fighters '95 or '98 through my eyes. I've said why the NEOGEO is awesome many times on the forums: nuff said for here.

7) What is more important to you in games - graphics, story... or something else?
RuneSlayer4421: Story is always paramount. But then if a game has a great story and loot, then it's just about perfect.
Spirochaete: Achievements. Gaming to me is a form of self expression, not escapism.

8) There are loads of stats TA keeps track of. Is there anything in particular that you try to improve?
RuneSlayer4421: My completion percentage. I was buying games to try them out and not really playing them for achievements. I've made an effort to start working through some of my older games and start giving them a real try to get them completed.
Spirochaete: Just gamerscore this year. I have my sights on several genre leaderboards, but not until the million is done. And I'm going through a long divorce in saying goodbye forever to completion percentage.

9) Do you collect or play and sell? Do you have any gaming related collections?
RuneSlayer4421: My Borderlands collection is pretty big. I have almost every collectible released, except from some of the NECA Claptraps.
Spirochaete: Collect but “hoard” is a better word. I'm from the ghetto and we hang onto what we have. Physical media until the bitter end.

10) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Spirochaete: I'm proud of what these two girls achieve every week. But don't tell them that. (Oops.)

PermalinkGTASC 2019: Period 11 (Level Up!)
Hello folks and welcome to this week's recap of events in the GTASC. For those with the desire for bonuses, there was a Solo one on the table that asked people to level up over and over. Some went for the more active Kinect Sports Gems as there are some real low hanging fruits there and others went for current hot games like Gears 5 and Borderlands. I ended up getting most of mine from WORLDS Builder: Farm & Craft (Win 10) for simplicity sake - though I'd not recommend the game. Its a time sink and pretty cookie cutter at that.

The scoring on the Individual side has taken quite the nosedive. While eliminations on the Team side have stagnated around 2,500 for the last few periods, the Solo side dropped significantly the period folks shooting for the Community Challenge badge could shift focus elsewhere and took yet another dive this last period. Whether it be due to serious decay of new games (Gears 5 and Borderlands 3 no doubt are somewhat to blame), time spent working on 'Level' flagged achievements or just a continuation of Challenge folks sliding into oblivion - it was much easier to keep alive in Solo than Team last period. Interestingly enough, the average ratio for all teams was the highest yet last period. Here's a look at the recent eliminations:
External image

  • BONUS RECAP:

As I mentioned earlier, last period was a Solo bonus that asked members to unlock at least 15 achievements with the 'Level' flag. Shockingly, there are quite a few more of those in the wild than you may have expected going into this challenge. As this is one that requires scanning, it will be taken care of within the next 24 hours or so.

Looking towards the bonus that's currently up for grabs - we have Cheesing It which we've already seen on the Solo side. The requirement is to unlock at least 6,000 GS as a team. You can split it any way you like. Even have one member push it all out if you want... just remember to survive the period in Solo if you're competing there as well!

None this period.

  • OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:

This period we have Ingen kommentar of Enzane Danes Continnum as well as the Solo winner, Lambent Lail.
1) What pushed you to 1st place last period?
Ingen kommentar: I didn't actually do anything on purpose to reach the nr. 1 spot, i guess i just unlocked some high ratio chievos :D but again, im pretty sure i got passed on the last day or something by GT: Lambent Lail
Lambent Lail: I was definitely gunning for 1st place, but not in GTASC! laugh The only reason I it the number one spot in GTASC was because I was the first gamer to unlock
Gears POP!Seriously POP!The Seriously POP! achievement in Gears POP! worth 4068 pointsDefeat 100,000 pins, win 1000 Versus Battles, reach highest Versus League and clear 1000 Horde Waves
and that was the thing I was gunning for. It just so happened that the ratio was ~180, which rocketed me to the top of GTASC. I mean, I only unlocked 8 achievements in the period!

2) Did you play anything you'd recommend while pushing to 1st place?
Ingen kommentar: Atm. im playing a lot of Gamepass games, and i gotta say there really are some good gems hidden there. The hack & Slash Ruiner really surprised me in a positive way, it's quite difficult but addictive. and i really gotta give some love to Moonlighter that i really loved from the start to the end.
Lambent Lail: I only played two games during the period: Gears POP! and Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox 360). Of the two, I would definitely recommend Tomb Raider, since Gears POP! has extremely predatory microtransactions that I do not agree with, but ultimately fell prey to anyway. And if it can happen to me, it can happen to anybody, so buyer beware!

3) What are your thoughts on Project xCloud? Would you use a streaming service?
Ingen kommentar: Can't really say to much about it i, haven't put that many thoughts into it yet. But yeah i think i would, The xbox is more or less only digital for me today so it would feel more or less the same for me i guess.
Lambent Lail: I think the service is a step in the right direction and I am hopeful it will succeed. I have typically been the chanter of "long live physical releases," but the reality is that digital has many benefits for both producers and consumers, and as an academic economist, I understand the market swinging that direction.

That said, they only personal downside I see for me with the service is the constant temptation to play high quality games on my phone when I'm doing other more important tasks laugh

4) What made you choose the gamertag you use?
Ingen kommentar: haha my GT is danish and it means No comment :D It's many years old, and from a time when i played Counter Strike 1.3 and 1.6 on a high level. It was a kind of my smurf account when playing and to ignore alot of comments when ppl was whining about everything from here to the moon haha
Lambent Lail: My original gamertag was Lail5, which was a combination of my last name and my favorite number. However, people constantly mistook the "5" as an "s" and treated the gamertag like a numeronym by calling me "Lails" in chats. I liked having my last name in my gamertag, but I wanted to get away from that misrepresentation.

Therefore, since I love the Gears of War series, "Lambent Lail" had four advantages: 1) it shows my love of the series, 2) it keeps my last name in the tag, 3) it has nice alliteration with the double L's, and 4) it would keep my gamertag roughly in the same spot on my Xbox friend's friend list, since it sorts alphabetically. It drives me nuts when one of my friend's changes their tag to something completely different without notifying me, and then I'm like, "Who the hell is BillyBobX720 and how do I know them?"

5) Do you play any games 'for fun'? What keeps you playing after the achievements are done?
Ingen kommentar: Gotta admit that lately im not playing a game that much after i gotten my full completion, then i simply move on to the next game. The older im getting i need new stuff to keep me motivating, otherwise i simply grow tired of the most games in the long run. Sometimes i fancy to go back and play some Blood Money in BF Hardline laugh for some reason that game never seems to get old for me haha.
Lambent Lail: There are some word based mobile games I will play with my wife while sitting at a restaurant waiting for our food, such as Wordscape. Other than that, I am generally playing games for achievements. I really enjoy completing games and have been working hard on my completion percentage and back log recently.

However, every now and then a game will suck me in so hard that I will continue playing even after getting all of the achievements, the last of which I believe was Diablo III which worked our great considering that when Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition (Xbox 360) and Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition were released, I was able to transfer my super power character over and blast through those achievements very quickly! toast

That game kept me playing mostly because I was a huge fan of Diablo and Diablo II on PC years ago and played consistently for nearly 3 and 10 years, respectively.

6) What is your favorite in-game weapon to use?
Ingen kommentar: All since back in the days when playing UT and CS on my PC i've always been the sniper, the run in your face up close kind of sniper type smile
Lambent Lail: I often find myself sticking with weapon defaults in a game for far longer than necessary. Obviously playing around with other weapons in a game is fun and sometimes necessary, but usually a default layout can take you a long way in a surprising number of games.

And I appreciate when games do allow starting gear to still be viable in the endgame. Gears of War is a perfect example. The Lancer and Gnasher, the default weapons since the start of the series, still reign supreme in many enemy altercations.

7) Overall, what would you call your proudest completion? (across all platforms)
Ingen kommentar: hmm that is tough. In pretty happy about my recently completion of Blazing Chrome (also on Game pass :D) or maybe Grip and Mortal Kombat vs. DC on the 360.
Lambent Lail: I wish there were a way to display all of the Resident Evil games I've completed, including PS1, PS2, Wii, etc. Of all the game series available today, the Resident Evil Series has always, and will always, be my favorite, and I am proud to display that fact with my 100% series completion on my TA profile.

8) Has anything stood out to you as game of the year?
Ingen kommentar: I think i played way to few games, that released this year to have a opinion about that warning but if i should say the best game i played this year i think i maybe is Mutant year Zero - Road to Eden. Can't rush it to much when saying everyone that have the slightest interest in turn based combat, should give that a try. rock
Lambent Lail: I haven't played the "latest and greatest" games for quite a while now. As mentioned earlier, I've been working on my backlog of games much more lately. But, if I had to pick based off of the TA articles I have read alone, I would assume that Borderlands 3 is going to take home a lot of awards this year, GOTY most likely among them.

9) What would you say was your hardest achievement to unlock?
Ingen kommentar: if we talk overall i really can't choose, there have been so many tough once. but if we talk for the last week, it gotta be Colonel in Blazing Chrome for beating the game on hardcore, or even maybe the perfect naja and perfect energy flux in Moonlighter, where you have to beat the bosses without getting hit.
Lambent Lail: Well, according to TA statistics, it is apparently
Rare ReplayAmber WarningThe Amber Warning achievement in Rare Replay worth 369 pointsGrabbed by the Ghoulies: Complete Challenge 21
(I'm not including the recently earned Gears POP! achievements, because though are bound to decay). Although, recently the absolutely horrible DLC for Resident Evil 2 had the frustrating
Resident Evil 2Secret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Resident Evil 2 worth 137 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement
which took me far longer than necessary, in my opinion.

However, I wouldn't necessary classify either of those as "hard" per say. My answer, one day, will definitely be
LEGO Rock BandThe Final CountdownThe The Final Countdown achievement in LEGO Rock Band worth 328 pointsScore 100% on the Guitar Solo in "The Final Countdown" on Expert
because this is the last achievement I have to complete LEGO Rock Band and I will get it! Someday... laugh

10) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Ingen kommentar: Nothing else than beside, that i'm looking forward to see how far i end up in this competition, and good luck to everyone out three still competing toast
Lambent Lail: I accepted a new job recently and am in the process of moving. I just packed up all my gaming systems into boxes yesterday! That fact, combined with the super decay I'm now facing from Gears POP! means my GTASC run is effectively over. I have 3000 TA score of bonuses to use, so I'll try to stay in the competition as long as possible (despite recently saying this would be my last week), but I highly doubt I'll survive... So good luck to everyone else, and thank you for the fun competition!

PermalinkGTASC 2019: Period 10 (Three for Victory)
Hello ladies and gentlemen, lads and lassies. Its time to take a peek at how the contest is shaping up and what that means for you. Although there was some separation between the 2 events showing in the top games, this period we'll see that AAA releases as well as the new easy games still hold the attention of contestants - even though the former tends to lead to massive decay and the latter isn't honestly worth the effort for the return in value.

As some noted, the Solo side in particular was nowhere near as competitive this period thanks to the Community Challenge faithful moving onto other projects. With the drop so significant on the Solo side its interesting to note that the Team elimination continued its climb last period.

  • BONUS RECAP:

Last period was a Team bonus which set folks to unlocking achievements with either the number '3' or the word 'three' anywhere at all in its name. As long as every member in your team was able to unlock at least one achievement online and timestamped within the timeframe of Period 9, you will be granted the bonus.

The 141 surviving winners of the 'Seeing Threes' bonus are:
*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***

We also had 4 teams complete the challenge but unfortunately fell to the rising tide of elimination.:

This period we move back to a Solo bonus. One that requires some work, planning and of course, plentiful opportunities to woot when you ding. Odd you may say... but that's only until you notice the bonus is Ding, Level Up! which asks everyone to unlock at least 15 achievements flagged with 'Level'. As with any bonus that focuses on flagging or genres, please be aware that the Game Info team may change these without warning. Either check at the end of the period to ensure you still have the 15 needed or perhaps unlock an extra one or two just to be sure.

Catmajik101 found a hoard of gold and exchanged it for a Golden Accessory Box in Black Desert Online.

  • OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:

This week by the campfire we've got 2 members of Lord InToX Veteran as well as the Solo Chart-topper last period - ZaeloRae.
1) What pushed you to 1st place last period?
inToX Shredz: Trying to keep the ratio high and saw we were close to the top, so we went for that too.
True Veteran: I think it was Wreckfest not dropping in TA sort of pushed us. But Shredz did most of the work to be honest.
ZaeloRae: In all honesty, I only started out getting enough to reach the 25% bonus for the period. Itzz Sh0wt1m3 & BulletLukey had set up a Minecraft Realm to get achievements, so I decided to get as many as I could on the XBOX One version and Switch version. When I stopped, I was at 2nd position, about 600 points behind 1st. I was really surprised when I had 1st position the next morning. :D

2) Did you play anything you'd recommend?
inToX Shredz: Brawlout isn’t bad. It’s like a less good smash bros clone but it’s on Xbox.
True Veteran: I would highly recommend Remnant. Easily my Game of the year this year so far.
ZaeloRae: From this period, I recommend Thimbleweed Park if you like old style point and click adventure games. And, of course, Minecraft for casual play and for easy achievements.
From earlier periods, I recommend Westerado. It gave me a few moments of frustration, but I think it's worth giving it a try.

3) What is the craziest thing you've done for the sake of achievements?
inToX Shredz: Done the same repetitive thing for days at a time.
True Veteran: Nothing too crazy, Maybe wake up at 1am to do a boosting session for 4 hours for the "thru the pack" achievement on Forza then go to work at 6am.
ZaeloRae: Not crazy, but I did buy the LEGO Batman (JP) with the intention to buy a Japanese Xbox 360 to play it. Luckily, LEGO BATMAN was made backwards compatible and the JP disc worked on my XBOX ONE. Saved me some hassle. :P

4) What's your favorite boss battle? Did you choose it because it was such a great accomplishment, because it was a workout, because you loved the dialogue...?
inToX Shredz: The hand of the king battle in dead cells, mainly for accomplishment but it’s also one of my favourite games.
True Veteran: Darlene from Dead Rising 3. Such a hilarious boss fight.
ZaeloRae: I really enjoyed most of the boss battles in Cuphead, especially the Devil and King Dice. I'm not the most skilled at games, so Cuphead was tough for me. I was really happy when I defeated the Devil in a clutch moment.

5) What game(s) are you currently playing? Do you have any thoughts on them?
inToX Shredz: I have wwz on the grind but nothing else until gears 5.
True Veteran: I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VIII, Absolutely love the game reliving my childhood. Though i dislike them adding the cheats in the game.
ZaeloRae: I just started One Piece: World Seeker, although I know it won't be as good as the manga/anime, I'm expecting to enjoy the story.
I've also been going through and getting the gold medals in Kyub. I know the achievement is glitched, but I'm going to do it anyway. I really like this puzzle game.

6) Do you own any other consoles besides Xbox 360/Xbox One?
inToX Shredz: I’ve got a switch for smash bros.
True Veteran: I own a Switch and a PS4, My partner uses the switch and i barely touch my ps.
ZaeloRae: I do own a Switch. I plan to play the Link's Awakening remake when that comes out later this month. Really excited for that.

7) Why did you chose the gamerpic you use?
inToX Shredz: To troll my mates one night and I haven’t changed it since.
True Veteran: It's 2B from Nier: Automata. Just really connected to her as a character wink
ZaeloRae: The gamerpic on TA was chosen since it gave an impression of "Whoa! Achievements!"
My gamerpic on XBOX ONE has changed to the Godzilla suit. It looks like I stepped in something, so I'm leaning against a building to check my foot.

8) Which video game sidekick would you want at your side in a fight?
inToX Shredz: Probably like Ymir from smite or something.
True Veteran: Claptrap from Borderlands. Enough said.
ZaeloRae: Any Pokemon starter would be cool.

9) Is there one game you'd recommend that you think was overlooked by most of the folks here on TA? What about that game makes it special?
inToX Shredz: Definitely dead cells. It’s just got really fun and addictive gameplay and it’s got a kit building mechanic to it as well which just makes it better. And it’s free on gamepass too now so that’s a plus.
True Veteran: Blood Waves is the 1 that comes to mind, I really enjoyed that game. Just a simple but good horde mode game.
ZaeloRae: I highly recommend The Sun and Moon. It's a really nice and responsive platformer with a neat phasing/gravity mechanic. If you liked OVIVO or thought that game could have been better, I recommend The Sun and Moon. I was really happy when I got the Sun achievement in the game.

10) Is there anything you'd like to add?
inToX Shredz: Yeah, I wouldn’t mind if certain teams got looked at more for having smurfs 😉
True Veteran: Wreckfest rubber banding is horrible.
ZaeloRae: Shout out to Club 138. Hope to see you all in the next Community Challenge. :)

Gotta ask the all important music question once in a while. Any bands you'd suggest we give a listen to or track suggestions?
inToX Shredz: Probably avenged sevenfold if your into that style.
True Veteran: Hail to the King by Avenged Sevenfold. Great song by a great band. Give it a listen.
ZaeloRae: I've had the DuckTales theme stuck in my head for thirty years, so I'm probably not the best one to ask about music suggestions. :P
Thanks for those suggestions ;)

PermalinkGTASC 2019: Period 9 (Community. Challenged.)
Howdy and welcome to yet another voyage through the statistics that make the GTASC what it is. That's right, we'll peek at the top games played, the most unlocked achievements across several categories and of course... chat with some members that topped the leaderboards last period.

The most recent TrueAchievements Community Challenge has just ended. I honestly expected a bit more of a fight at the end today. In the end, the elimination line didn't jump too much in the last 8 hours. The devs have been alerted and we'll hopefully soon see an article noting the winners and hopefully a count of those on their perfect win streak. Stay tuned!

Its a new month and that means a new TA Playlist. This month we're on a journey with The Banner Saga. Join in for some spoiler free (or spoiled if that's your preference!) discussion as we march on!

  • BONUS RECAP:

Last period was a Solo bonus, and it asked the members to end in the top 25% of non-eliminated participants. That means 204 lucky Individuals would go home happier. Looking at the board, I see I should have put up another 100 points to secure my spot. I ended in position 207. redface

This period we're looking to see some 'three' action. Since teams are made of 3 members, we're looking to have each of those members unlock an achievement with either the word 'three' or the number '3' anywhere in its name. No, the description doesn't count! If all 3 members unlock their 3 achievement, the team will be one 2,000 point bonus richer.

No winners this period.

  • OVERACHIEVER INTERVIEW:

With us this period are 2 members of StillGamev3 as well as the Solo topper LadyApril75.
1) What pushed you to 1st place last period?
BorrowedMango15: Nothing really, we were just playing games we wanted to play and that we’re on our backlog.
LadyApril75: I have just been doing my best. I honestly didn't expect to get first place in the indiviual. My team and I were trying to make first in team.
LeglessHamster: just wanted it

2) Did you play anything you'd recommend?
BorrowedMango15: Erm, maybe the Lego speed champions dlc for Forza horizon 4. It’s different and overall a good experience.
LadyApril75: Vigor, Warface, and of course the Borderlands series are all good games. I would recommend any of them.
LeglessHamster: realm royale

3) Do you prefer to play a particular genre? What makes you pick one game over another?
BorrowedMango15: Sports. I’m football mad so I’m always playing Fifa.
LadyApril75: I LOVE horror survival. I have played every Resident Evil and Silent Hill on PS1&2. The Suffering is another favorite, along with Dino Crisis.
LeglessHamster: like everything apart from platform fighters

4) What is your favorite game of all time? What about it makes it special?
BorrowedMango15: Again Fifa just because I spend so much time on it
LadyApril75: Favorite game of all time would have to be Dino Crisis. I'm an old school nerd.
LeglessHamster: alan wake storyline

5) How would you describe the way you play games to someone who doesn't play for achievements?
BorrowedMango15: I play through the story and enjoy the cutscenes then after I’ve enjoyed the story and visuals I go through getting any remaining achievements. Not the most efficient way of completing games but I like to take it all in and actually no what’s going on instead of rushing through for gamerscore.
LadyApril75: The feeling I get when i pop achievements is better than anything. My competitive nature in achieveing my gaming goals is one of my greatest aberrations, yet one of my guilty pleasures.
LeglessHamster: just like to get my moneys worth

6) What would you consider your greatest gaming accomplishment?
BorrowedMango15: I don’t really know. Maybe getting all gears of war 4 achievements now onto gears 5 and ready for the grind again.
LadyApril75: My greatest gaming accomplishment? Probably meeting a very special man who has made my life happier, especially when I kick his butt in GS and games.
LeglessHamster: seriously 3.0

7) Which achievement are you most proud of unlocking? What did it take to earn that achievement?
BorrowedMango15: Seriously 4.0. That took some serious time and a lot of horde.
LadyApril75: Gears of War. The friendships I cultivated on that game and the fun adventures my friends and I had...those memories and that completion will warm my heart for years to come.
LeglessHamster: seriously 3.0 alot of time

8) If forced to play only 1 genre for a year, what would you pick and why?
BorrowedMango15: Sports for previously mentioned reason.
LadyApril75: Hmm it would be between Horror Survival or RPGs. I love Horror survival, but RPGs would give me more gaming fun throughout the year.
LeglessHamster: lego

9) There are loads of stats TA keeps track of. Is there anything in particular that you try to improve?
BorrowedMango15: My completion ratio is something I often check I like to keep it above the 90% mark.
LadyApril75: When i first started gaming, i went more for gamerscore than i did completions. Now with server shutdowns and unobtainables, my ratio leaves much to be desired. So, i would say my ratio.
LeglessHamster: completion percentage

10) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
BorrowedMango15: No just good luck to everyone competing. Thanks.
LadyApril75: I'd like to give a shoutout to a few people whose friendships and gaming knowledge helped me become a better gamer.
LordKevin75- Your competitive nature drives people to achieve more and reach their gaming dreams.

Franco 4 127hrs- Thanks for your friendship and gaming advice. And don't worry, I will pass you up next!

And a big shoutout to the best gaming group on discord and TA. The Achievement Alliance! And our wonderful leader Emperor Ell! I highly recommend joining this group.
LeglessHamster: team no sleep suck
