Global achievement rarity is available to TA???Permalink
I was surprised to hear on the latest podcast that achievement rarity across all of Xbox live is available via the Microsoft API used by TA for achievement data.

Paraphrasing Rich (Mr. TA), "There were discussions about using those figures, but how do we integrate that into the site? Do we replace our existing ratios with the full Xbox world ratios or do we show them as an alternative ratio?" You can hear the rest on episode 34 of ZedtoZed.
Kudos to spankyNspronkle for asking the question.

I don't want to get into the ratio discussion right now. I can see arguments both ways. But I do want to say GIVE US THOSE GLOBAL NUMBERS!!!! Please! smile

I'd love to see a global percentage of gamers who have gotten an achievement displayed as "0.15%" or alternatively "39 of 26,000." It doesn't need to be integrated into the site per se, just make it available to view in the achievement details. If it looks too cluttered there, just show it in the List View of achievements. Or even make it simply a "tooltip" ( popup that only shows when you point the cursor at the site ratio.

What do you all think?

NBA Kirkland Is there a wish list item for this? If not there should be.

GHOST WORLD TBF Rich did state that to bring the stats in for the 40 million plus users was almost impossible with TA's current setup. The site is now 1tb in size with just 350,000 users so it would be impractical to expand to the whole of Xbox live.

It was a real eye opener that interview.

Ryot Control Global achievement rarity is kind of nice. It is already available on the PlayStation side of the house and its straight from the source; but its more of a novelty because it's only broken down to 4 levels of rarity. TA would have to do something more useful than just a rarity category to make it worthwhile.

If access to the global data is possible, what I would want is the "True" global Gamerscore leaderboards. That's the one thing that I miss with the loss of the mygamercard website. Ironically, mygamercard DID scan the entire Xbox population up until its closure; but left it at rep, gamerzone, overall score, number of achievements earned and games played. The site ranking doesn't really carry much weight with me since registered users consist of a fraction of the population on Xbox.

NBA Kirkland @GW Well it sounded like he could also get the global rarity numbers for achievements without registering/scanning every Xbox Live user.

NBA Kirkland An update from Rich on twitter here:
I will update the blog shortly.

NBA Kirkland Rich chimed in on twitter to correct me on some of this.
Apparently the global rarity info is not currently in the API used by TA. But MS had said they could make it available with some work on their (MS's) part.

So this data is not as close as I thought cry

(Not going to update the blog for fear I will lose existing comments).

NBA Kirkland Also mentioned on the podcast was that there will be 2nd version of the TA XB1 app at some point.

Arsenic 17 To get the info for all Xbox members, it would take up much space. Just a few bytes per achievement. It's just a simple percentage. It wouldn't be like seeing that 1 TB number go up to 120 TB

Freamwhole I would love to see a global ranking. Perhaps like a 1st of the month snapshot of the planet. I don't care about who these people are, just how I fit into the global pool.

"Unlocked by X tracked gamers (XX% TA Ratio X.XX) and X gamers globally (XX% MS Ratio X.XX)"

Now THAT would be awesome.

AH GamerScore Hell yea ^ and just leave the stat leaderboards how it is and not have the unregistered people off our stuff. TA ratios would definitely go up on a lot games.

NBA Kirkland zzUrbanSpaceman helps clear up the confusion about what extra storage would be needed and I completely agree with what he says:
