PermalinkA Gaming Journal 2017: September
Cracked open a couple games this month: Doom, Battlefield 4 and revisited Gears of War 4 for a September Update worth a quick 500 GamerScore.

  • Earned 130 achievements in Sept 2017 for 3,140 Gamerscore worth 9,254 TA

Call me "Sir" in Battlefield 4 Reach Rank 18-25
This game offers XP bonus awards for completing certain activities such as attaining particular ranks. These can boost XP gain by 25%, 50% or 100%. Spending 30 minutes one afternoon getting headshots on USC Members as they continuously showed up to be killed got me to rank 18 this week.

The rest should come as we work through the various DLC assignments:
New Superpower Complete all China Rising Assignments 4-10
Street Fighter Complete all Dragon's Teeth Assignments 0-10
King in the North Complete all Final Stand Assignments 0-8

Community Ambassador in Project Cars Driver Network Community Events 12-20
Still signing in every Sunday night to knock off a Community Event race. Two months to go!

Thanks to LRD SOTH, we finished the other online achievements for Project Cars. I have continued to play the solo campaign and am actually enjoying it despite it being a simulator. This is much better than Forza Horizon 2!

The difficulty perhaps lies with Project Cars preference for a wheel. However, with some adjustments you can make Xbox controllers work well.

To make this game more like an Arcade Racer, try these settings (even for Pro Handling)

Beauty is Pain in DOOM Echelon 5 or 8
Sundays and Mondays will find a group of usual suspects Sector Boosting in Doom. Since the 6.66 Update, many armor wearing achievements now require a certain Echelon with the last being 8. Should be there by the end of October.

  • Finished Grinds Games this Month

Forza Horizon 2All Your Race Are Belong To Us 2.0The All Your Race Are Belong To Us 2.0 achievement in Forza Horizon 2 worth 245 pointsComplete all 168 Championships.

Thanks to a steady group knocking off the online Roadtrips and the like I was able to concentrate on the solo races required. Way too many of those by the way. With the help of FEEDtheBEA5T, I finished the game by completing the necessary Co-Op Bucket List items.

This is going to get a low score from me. Probably 3 out 5. It was way, way too long. 168 championships with 3 to 4 races each. Ridiculous. Plus I thought this was Forza's answer to Arcade racing. The handling was poor when modeling actual car properties in the game. Please bring this game back closer to Arcade Handling.

I prefer Arcade Racing over Simulators, but I am enjoying Project Cars - a simulator. This much more than I did Forza Horizon 2. However, the following clip was amusing:

"Fwee Whehee!" No walls were destroyed during the filming of this clip.

September Update for Gears of War 4
Revisited Gears of War to pop a quick 500 GamerScore. Super crazy update that awarded players who completed the game an additional 18 achievements for simply starting up the game.

  • *** CAUTION ***

If you are content with only finishing the base game and have no desire to start The Rise of the Horde, do not be enticed by this quick 500 GS update. To the get the September Update, you will need to download all updates. Pop. You have just started The Rise of the Horde.

The Rise of the Horde achievement that usually pops in addition to the September Update is for Completing 50 Waves of Horde on a Post Launch Map. If you finished the base game, it would be unusual for you to have not completed the requirements for this achievement. Beware! Maybe that was the true intent of this Update...

NonKosherSalt @mrbellek,
It seems everything is a grind of some sort. Whether it is doing the same thing over and over again like ring dancing or completing the same activities when visiting different areas in a game. With Loot Boxes now proliferating, this is becoming the norm. So a grind journal nowadays is a game journal.

Yeah, that was quick funny especially when it was unexpected. "Fwee Whehee!"
