PermalinkGiving games a second chance
I've got a new post up at https://loneskullwalkergaming.blogspot.com talking about giving games a second chance after you've thrown them to "game purgatory", never to be played again.

Let me know what you think and what game(s) you've given a second chance to and enjoyed them the second time around.

Game on and Later Days,

AnDo0 PwnZ It's so true, I've recently started focusing on getting my Completion percentage up a bit. that of course means diving down into "gamer purgatory" and retrieving the games I thought I'd never touch again. It's actually an amazing feeling to jump back into a game, clean up 3 or 4 achievements and send it back to hell, while hanging on to that completion and a bit of Gamerscore. I haven't started a new game in over 2 months and while I'm not hitting my usual numbers, I'm padding my completion% and ratio stats, which is nice.

In Summary, I'm not a big fan of doing some backlog work and revisiting old treasures.

LoneSkullWalker Good point, I hadn't even thought of the completion percentages that would rack up on TrueAchievements. That adds a whole new angle to it.

Fire Hawk D My big one back when I started gaming on 360 was Dead Rising. I'd heard so much about it so when I finally got to play it I was very disappointed. It was too hard, too clunky, and I hated it. I put it down for a good while but then the completionist bug bit me and I had to return. But, when I finally understood how it worked (Ohhhh, it's okay to die and start over!) it has become one of my favorite series.

LoneSkullWalker Dead Rising was one that I tried (on PS3) and didn't care for either. Now I think I need to revisit it and give it another shot especially as I enjoy Dead Rising 3.

IronFistofSnuff I can think of two games I did this with. I absolutely hated Mass Effect the first time I played it many years ago on Steam. I think it was a combination of it having poor shooting mechanics and the rpg elements no appealing to me at the time. I think I was around 12 or 13 when I first played it, so I may have just been to young to get invested, back then my favorite games were Call of Duty and Left 4 Dead (Both quick paced FPS's.) I gave it another real chance after the first UHH in 2016 when I was 17 and I wound up loving it, and completing 4, 20 hour playthroughs and getting the full 1200 Gamerscore in a week and a half. I can't do that anymore, but at the time I had no job.

The other game was Saint's Row The Third, which I only hated because of the amount of extreme change from Saint's Row 2, which I loved. I wound up giving it another chance in 2014 when it became a Game with Gold. I'm glad I did, because it wound up being a great game that I just didn't give a chance to. Since then, I actually enjoy the new style of Saint's Row much more than the older ones.

LoneSkullWalker I agree, I was against Saints Row III and IV at first play but the over the top of each was too much fun in the end. I still need to beat 4 and play Gat Outta Hell though. I have tried the first Mass Effect and like you, I'm not much into it but I think that's because I just don't have the time to sit through all that dialogue right now. I want to get to the action, not read lol. I will definitely give it another shot soon though.

Another game I gave a second chance and enjoyed was Metro 2033 (ironically another Deep Silver game). Who has played Agents of Mayhem? Is it any good?

Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

IronFistofSnuff I have yet to play Agents of Mayhem, I bought it on sale a few months ago. I've heard mixed things, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it for what it is.

I actually really enjoyed Metro 2033 from the start, but I put it down and haven't had a chance to get back into it and complete it.
