Opponent: From Scotland, good to have someone in the same timezone. Very serious contender. Basically feels like being matched up against myself :)
Well this list is going to be a fight. It's not a bad list; but weird to only have 12 distinct games. So we'll see how the week plays out. Mostly similar or matched progress in games, except for a couple. I feel like I have a slight advantage there.
However, it has to be a big push Sat, Sun and Mon; as on Tuesday morning I set out for the epic family time before my brother's wedding. So my opponent will have a time advantage, even though I'll basically game non-stop til Monday night.
PS: I'm totally writing this blog on the train home as I've not really had a great deal of time to sit down with my thoughts since the round started.// SATURDAY
Dived straight in after sorting my game collection. Opponent pulling no punches, was down 0-4 out of the gate :D I like it! Keeps me on my toes.
Sadly no advantage here, as I was at the start of this episode and you can just start at any episode in this collection. But as I was sleepy (post-food nap time was skipped) I needed something to ease me in.
Not really much to say, these followed on from the previous week. Picked up the car, drove it about 1m, then hopped out and got my hunt.
This game is my ace in the hole (hopefully) as I'd made so much progress during a previous round, activating PAT was my next achievement, and fairly simple as it goes. I then proceeded to play on and got up to 5/6 barnacles on my beach. The icicle was harder than expected, and although I made good progress, it kept handing me my arse. I did a bit of levelling up, but by then was getting quite tired and decided to call it a night around 1am.
Doesn't feel like I did a lot, based on the score. But made tons of advancing in Earthlock.
4-9 (down)// SUNDAY
Got some sleep, and decided to dive into LA Noire whilst I had my first (of many) cups of tea. Cookies for breakfast is okay, right? :)
My opponent had gotten to the end of the traffic cases overnight; but I'm assuming fell asleep during the epically long unskippable cutscenes! I followed a guide as I'd already done these before on the 360 and wanted to be the most efficient. Skipped a couple of non-storyline achievements I didn't need, and let my partner drive everywhere. This took most of the morning, but I got it done.
I feel bad I had to skip the dialogue, so I'll be getting back into this one properly as the story is getting more intriguing.
Actually got this one quicker than I expected, once I'd figured out where I was going. It was the next story beat, after an annoying boss, and I got this one just as my friend came online ready to co-stream.
This game is both scary and annoying in equal measures, but generated a funny VOD if you want a laugh. Took longer than I would have liked, but figured most of it out ourselves.
I really only started this one up to fight the crab to bring me even with my opponent (I think). But as I was streaming I decided to carry on playing and beat the game! (Which was the second achievement I needed).
Well luckily I was just before Jimmy. Sadly I had the damn swinging to finish, couldn't remember where I was going. Then had a boss fight. After that however it was "smooth" sailing to get the ingredients; and then the race. Oh god the race. I took about an hour to beat the damn thing!! Shortcuts are the key; and I don't think I could have done it without that last one.
I should have probably gone to bed, but I just wanted to knock out one more. Stayed up til about 2am playing Watch Dogs 2 to finish the next mission. Then, realising that the next one I needed was further into the game, went to bed.
16-14 (up)// MONDAY
I had to combine Monday with gaming and packing, so this was always going to be a full on day.
Started off with a morning of Watch Dogs 2, slogging through the story missions, thankful a lot of them were hacking based as those are the most fun.
Spent way too long getting stuck on the bit with the platforms that squash you if you jump too late; but followed a walkthrough and all in all this wasn't bad.
I did load up Alan Wake and managed to get a grand total of 1/24 stars needed. So that's a big nope!
I was going to co-stream with Jesse, but as I was just grinding out levels, I decided to just be a voice guest on his stream instead. I levelled up characters, decided on swapping out to my favourite team, levelled up some more. Did some side quests, farmed tons of seeds; and then after a few tries finally managed to nab the stupid icicle. Ran all the way back to the warp point, frantic that I'd get knocked out and have to do it again. That rare achievement sound when I released it on the beach has never sounded so good.
Perfect timing to get a good nights sleep before travel the next day.
19-16 (up)// THE REST OF THE WEEK
So now it's just a waiting game. I won't touch Alan Wake; but it'll be on my opponent to get the 20 (which is doable) to get the win; so at least I made them work for it.
I shall be watching avidly their progress. Good luck PirateSpirit!!!!!!!!!!!!
Update: And they did it!! A well deserved win :)
The wedding went beautifully and even the weather co-operated. I'm exhausted so I'll be taking it easy this week in JFF.// UNEARNED// STATISTICS// ACHIEVEMENTS
