PermalinkA million gamerscore and the meaning of a true achievement (with a small favor to ask).
I've gotten a lot of congratulations this week on hitting a milestone this week, and I want to thank everyone who's reached out to me. I appreciate it! smile toast

On the subject of achievements, though, a million is really only a number, a mass accumulation of points cobbled together from a laundry list of thousands of games to choose from. All I really needed to do was have a lot of time on my hands and the persistence to do it.

However, as big as that might seem, this next week my own parents are going to one-up me.

Next week is my parents' 50th wedding anniversary.

Let that sink in for a minute... it's their 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!!

How many people are fortunate enough to even make it to 50 years old? How many of those have even known someone else for 25 or 30 years? Now imagine being married to the same person... FOR 50 YEARS!!! It's hard even for me to comprehend that.

My parents are two of the most wonderful people I've ever known, and to be honest, I could never have wished for two better people to have spent my life to this point with. They fact that they tolerated me for as long as I've been around has made living with each other a cakewalk, I'm sure. laugh

And so, on August 31st, 2019, my parents (Mama and Papa Morning) are celebrating 50 wonderful years together, and I'd like all of you to be a part of it. If you could take a moment and send them texts on their anniversary, it would mean so much to me. (I know I've asked for birthday texts to my mom before, and she's appreciated all of them. This is a slightly bigger thing. smile)

[Edit: thanks everyone for the wonderful texts!!!]

A simple "Happy 50th Anniversary!" or whatever you feel like is fine, and please pass this along! 50 years just doesn't happen very often, and I know this would really mean a lot to my mother. (She won't see this coming, and couldn't ever expect it.)

Thank you in advance, and may all of you experience the kind of joy in your lives that they have in theirs. I love you Mom and Dad!

Rhyolitic Hey, that's my birthday! Congrats to your parents!

I can't even imagine spending 50 years with someone when my longest relationship was about 3 months. laugh I'd think at some point, you'd turn to the other person and say, "Why don't you go home?".

LifeExpectancy @Sasha - Will do. Hope they get spammed hard laugh Congrats again on the 1mil.

@Big Dom - The biggest thing I see causing so many people to jump to divorce these days is the delusion of happily ever after. Every marriage has at least one huge hurdle to overcome IMO. For my wife and I it happened about the 4 year mark, and it was huge. Not infidelity, but equally huge. But rather than giving up we worked through it and came out stronger on the other side. We celebrated 10 years in May and nothing short of death will prevent our 50th in 2059.

Hatton90 I will be sending a message from England (whether if that's the furthest away they will receive one from, probably not!) That day we will be celebrating my mother in law's 60th birthday aswell so a day of milestones!

I echo what @LifeExpectancy has said and that having just hit 3 years married last week, it is hard work, which most people don't want to do, but my word aren't the hard days worth it on the amazing days?!

Much love to Mama and Papa Morning.
