Scores took a bit of a dive this period, which is odd when you consider how many 'score's were unlocked
That trend may turn around this period as Teams work to improve their scores from the previous period. As we meander toward the holiday season, we have to wonder - will there be another great blockbuster like The Outer Worlds
to grab our attention? Will there be some significant holiday sales that offer up cheap score and good times? We'll have to see.
There were likely many any scoremongers among the Solo side last period. Its a bonus we have to scan for so please bear with us as we gather the information. Given the prevalence of achievements with the work in its name, I'm curious if this will take over as the bonus won by the highest % of the active competition. That honor currently sits with Getting Better
(improve upon previous leaderboard ending position) which was won by 68.64% (243 of 354 contestants) of the event. How many of you did it without turning to the dark side? If you managed it without unlocking an ACA NeoGeo achievement, kudos!
The Team bonus will test even the powerhouses. Looking at Roast House
for example - our Overachievers
from last period will see if getting 666 achievements and a whole bucketful of TA score was a blessing or a curse. Why is that? Well, we've sent the Team contest To The Gym
where they will be made Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger. Indeed, the task ahead of them is to improve 3 different statistics from last period - those being TA score, Gamerscore and achievements unlocked - all by 50%. There are bonuses that target a single stat and ask you to double it. This is a bit meaner in that you are only asked to do half as much more - but its across 3 different criteria. Suffice to say any team that manages this will likely be safe from elimination. Just because it was asked in thread earlier - bonuses don't add to the stats, they are calculated on top of them. You only have to focus on the actual statistics.
No winners this period.
This period we were able to hear from 2 members of Impaktado
and their amazing run to the top of the boards.
1) What pushed you to 1st place last period?sabby boy: The title update achievement in minecraft brought the wonderful realm run by Itzz Sh0wt1m3 to my attention and me and VerySlimChance took a run through to get the remainder of our achievements on the console version. Curiosity then led me to check if it also worked on the IOS version. It did At that point we were so far in the lead I figured I’d try to keep us on top because it’s something I’ve never achieved in my 4 years competing in this contest. We did it!
VerySlimChance: Ego. We just really wanted to be able to say that we got first place in a period before getting eliminated from the GTASC.2) Did you play anything you'd recommend last period?sabby boy: Minit was a pretty fun little game that just came into game pass. The walkthrough on the site made it about an hour for me to complete. I don’t think I would’ve liked it going in blind though.
VerySlimChance: Minecraft.... lots of Minecraft.3) If forced to play just one game for an entire year, what would you choose and why?sabby boy: I would probably go with my favorite game of all time, Kingdom Hearts II. I feel like the combat is in depth enough to have every play through feel a little different. Also, no matter how many times I beat that game the ending always gets to me (please port it to Xbox, square.)
VerySlimChance: Solitaire definitely. My whole life I’ve been able to place that game bored, entertained, alone and even with a few missing cards. But if it has to be a video game then Tetris.4) How would you describe the way you play games to someone who doesn't play for achievements?sabby boy: So back in the day people went to arcades, right? And they always tried to get high scores. It’s the same exact thing. It just puts your score for every game into a number. Boom.
VerySlimChance: Hollowing and fulfilling. Imagine your happy life; turning on your Xbox (or whatever you prefer) and you’re about to play a game you love and enjoy. But then you remember the achievement list for that game you love and play all the time. You’re only missing 3 achievements! Oh noooooo! That’s a huge frustrating problem because you care about the game a lot and want to prove to yourself and others that you can beat it through and through... but one of those achievements requires 50+ hours of grinding... the other achievement will require 7 friends to all own the game you own... and the last achievement? Well that one is just flat out broken because of bugs, updates, websites crashing, etc...
But after all those rode blocks sometimes; just sometimes you triumph over it all and get that sweet sweet 100% game completion ratio.5) Which achievement are you most proud of unlocking? What did it take to earn that achievement?sabby boy: This is a really hard question for me to answer. I think it should be a mixture of pride and fun that I had in doing it. I would probably go with Great game.
VerySlimChance: I got that when I was a teenager and it took too many attempts, too much time and it just felt amazing once it popped.6) On the other side, what achievement do you wish you didn't make the effort to unlock - given hindsight?sabby boy: Doing “Mile High Club” back in the day felt worth it. Doing it in Modern Warfare Remastered... Yeah... I’m just glad I don’t have a pc or I’d probably do it again on the Win 10 version.
VerySlimChance: All the Payday 2 achievements. That game is great. Hell it’s a work of art but the achievements are very difficult and I thought I could 100% the game with a lot of hard work but it ended up just me getting very into the game while my achievement party got tired of grinding and having near perfect runs ruined by mic delay and mishaps like that.7) TA tracks a myriad of statistics, which one(s) do you try to improve?sabby boy: I’ve always mainly tracked Gamerscore but once I get into a good streak I’ll try to keep it going for awhile. I also enjoy tracking myself on the leaderboard for my region (Oregon, USA).
VerySlimChance: Overall completion ratio. I neeeeeeeed it to be past 50%.... one day.8) What are the origins of your gamertag?sabby boy: Sabby was a random nickname I got when I was 7 or 8. “Sabby” was taken when I made my account so I just threw boy on the end of it. Also not capitalizing was definitely a mistake but it became such a meme within my group of friends that I will never fix it.
VerySlimChance: I’m slim built, my name is Chance and your odds of winning with me around are a VerySlimChance...9) Who is your favorite hero across any game/platform? What about them makes them stand out to you?sabby boy: I’ve always really loved Sora in the Kingdom Hearts series. As crazy as that game’s world is, he’s pretty relatable. He’s dumb, and he’s constantly reminded that he’s not the best at what he does, but his intentions are in the right place and his friendships are his power. Powerful stuff, kids.
VerySlimChance: I’d probably have to say the playable heroes from the Fable series. They are a chose your own story kind of heroes but if you walk down the right path (there is no actual wrong or right path. Good and bad are arbitrary and you kick as many chickens as you damn well please) then you will end up as a complete saint to the people while at the same time staying true to yourself and become landlord of the whole world.10) Is there anything else you'd like to add?sabby boy: Thank you for running this great contest, Planting! It’s fun every year, even if I don’t make it that far usually. Unfortunately this will probably be my last week in the individual contest (after coming in first last week that’s super disappointing) but I gotta go see what this Norman Fetus game is all about on the dark side of the console war. Gonna keep my team running as long as I can though!
VerySlimChance: Please everyone on TrueAchievements keep doing what you’re doing. If popping a achievements makes you genuinely happy in life then please never stop doing it. Thank you for a absolutely wonderful community.
