Howdy everyone! Welcome to the end. Wait. Welcome to the end of 2019. No, still got the month ahead of us. Why does this feel like a bad year in review video? Well thankfully there's no video - you don't need to watch me typing furiously away anyways
and this is really just a celebration of the year 2019. Along with the GTASC festivities, you'll also find the Twelve Days of Christmas 2019
underway. Registration is open throughout the event. The first challenge is already open and people have started their work on a Time Consuming
achievement for double progress or a Collectible
achievement to complete the day.
The bonus on deck last period was Party Like Its...
which tasked the Team side with ending with a gamerscore that's divisible by 2019 - but not 0. Kinda glad it popped out now and not next year which would have been a bit odd... Party like its last year guys! Well, now that the confetti has finished falling and we're on cleanup duty (you guys are still coming to help, right?) its time to award the participants. 36 of them in total were ok with unlocking some wonky value achievements for the greater good and had the communication and/or restraint necessary to prevent going over. Here's the list:
Worth noting the standouts for this one - we had only one team take the route that left them with 2019 gamerscore - that being The Monkey Bois
. Similarly, Roast House
was the only team that took that multiple to new heights - earning 26,247GS. We had 10 teams opt for values that were 'normal' - meaning divisible by 5. 8 went for the lower route (10,095) and 2 went for the next 'even' number (20,190).
No winners this period.
This period we had all 3 members of Vicious And Delicious
stop by for a chat.
1) What pushed you to 1st place last period?Danno Omen: Well i had been pushing the girls to get a couple of badges just so we can say we did something this year, and this week just happened to be the week they both had a lot of time to game so it worked out. And then Sniped was determined to go for first and here we are. And also a shoutout to Piggies for pushing us so hard
oxy71: snipedbyagirl, she was a beast and was not taking a second place finish.
SnipedByAGir1: I’ve been wanting to clear out my backlog for awhile now, so we decided last week to just go for it.2) Did you play anything you'd recommend last period?Danno Omen: Well with how we scored our points there wasnt much good, but i'd recommend everyone to pick up Fractured Minds. Its like a 10 minute completion,is only $2 and a portion of that goes towards supporting mental health. So for a good cause, and easy gamerscore its worth getting.
oxy71: layers of fear2, loved the game!
SnipedByAGir1: I played a ton of crap games last week, but I really liked Sagebrush for some reason. Even though I blew through the game, I paid attention to the story which was very good for a Ratalaika game.3) Does anything stand out to you as a game of the year contender? What sets it above the rest of the games for you?Danno Omen: A Plague Tale is still my GOTY so far. Havent caught up on everything just yet so it could change but that game was just an incredible piece of storytelling, the gameplay was fun and interesting and the characters were great. Really recommend it.
oxy71: hmmm i really liked man of medan, very unique and the story was awesome.
SnipedByAGir1: I really loved Greedfall. It’s definitely my game of the year. I love BioWare games and this reminded me so much of Dragon Age Origins. The animations could have been better, but the story was phenomenal.4) Do you still find yourself playing your Xbox 360 backlog or have you moved to your Xbox One now?Danno Omen: I rarely touch any 360 games anymore. My fiance moved in over the summer and needed room for all her movies and books so i had to pack up the 360. I rarely ever think to put a 360 game in my one but occasionally i will.
oxy71: actually no although i have a ton of 360 games and a console sitting around.
SnipedByAGir1: I occasionally get the urge to work on my 360 backlog. I still have a lot of good 360 games to finish off. I recently finished off my first playthrough of The Witcher 2 after starting out over 7 years ago. Awesome game.5) What is your favorite genre to play? What game would you say is the best example of that genre?Danno Omen: City builders and strategy games in general. I'm currently finishing up Tropico 6 so i guess i will say that, Tropico is one of my favorite franchises.
oxy71: RPG, mass effect #1, i would finish that game then immediately start another playthrough. Another game was knights of the old republic. Sure wish they would remake that one.
SnipedByAGir1: My favourite genre is definitely RPG. Dragon Age Inquisition is still hands down my favourite RPG.6) Microsoft recently said that the consumers aren't interested in VR. (Virtual Reality) How do you feel about VR/AR? (Augmented Reality)Danno Omen: I'm personally not interested in it. I'd love to try it sometime to see what its like, but i wouldn't buy a VR set. I dont see why Xbox couldnt have some form of support for it in the new Xbox though by partnering with a third party headset. But either way i could care less.
oxy71: not interested at all.
SnipedByAGir1: I think that if there were good games created for VR I would probably be interested. It seems like most of the games are cheaper arcade type games that wouldn’t hold my interest. I guess I’m indifferent.7) What would you say most influences your decision to buy a game?Danno Omen: This will sound dumb, but if it has a physical copy or not. I buy pretty much every release that comes out so long as it has a physical release, and if it doesnt i will tend to wait as long as i can hoping it might get one.
oxy71: the games history and i watch YouTube to see if its a game i would like.
SnipedByAGir1: I pretty much buy anything and everything. The weekly game sales are a big influence. I’ve bought and played a lot of games in those sales that I would have never played otherwise.8) If you could only play one game for an entire year, which one would you choose and why?Danno Omen: I generally dont play multiplayer since im more into stories, but if i had to play only 1 game for a year i guess id have to pick a multiplayer game so probably battlefield or call of duty. Guess i will go with the new Modern warfare.
oxy71: i did play a game for a year, gems of war. That game is addicting.
SnipedByAGir1: I would have to pick The Elder Scrolls online. So much that I have to do in that game still. I would definitely be occupied for a year with that game.9) What are your feelings on the scoring change from regular TA score to TA Difference?Danno Omen: At first i hated the idea, didnt even want to compete in the competition because of it. We are generally creatures of habit so when something changes so much we always wish it was back to the old ways. But it has turned out to be a pretty positive change. I dont think it will end up changing the overall results too much but its still been positive overall i think.
oxy71: not sure to be honest. Sure puts easy games on the shelf.
SnipedByAGir1: I think it’s been a nice change. I haven’t really been serious about competing this year, but it’s been fun being able to stay in while playing some really good games.10) Is there anything else you'd like to add?Danno Omen: Thanks again for putting this on planting and dealing with everyone's bs. Thanks to my teammates as always for going through this with me and sometimes dealing with me being so demanding lol. We've been a team for 5 years now, been to 2 finals and have dealt with a lot of stuff in gaming. So i consider you both 2 of my closest friends. Good luck to everyone else in the contest!
oxy71: glad we had an amazing week, dont think it will happen again but it sure was fun.
SnipedByAGir1: Thanks for putting on this competition year after year Planting. I love how this competition encourages me to score and play some different games that I would never give a second glance at otherwise.
