Multiplayer Comes To Hitman: Absolution

By Mark Delaney, 6 years ago
Ask any fan of the Hitman series what the franchise's best attribute is, and they'll likely tell you it's the open-endedness of each level. This play-your-way approach is what sets Agent 47 apart from other gaming protagonists (or rather anti-heroes). has been promising a return to that fan favorite formula, and this time you'll be able to compete with your friends to see who can be the most creative and effective.

IO Interactive introduced "Contracts" mode earlier today. It's a new online mode that allows players to set up different scenarios to compete with friends for the best score. It doesn't require all parties be online at once. It's more akin to a "ghost" level in a racing game. Choose your level, enemies, weapons and adjust the rules based on time of completion, style, and witnesses.

It sounds like a natural evolution of the gameplay that series fans have come to love. The studio promised there'd be no complicated level editor to master. You "simply play to create". Gameplay Director, Christian Elverdam, had this to say about the new online mode:
CONTRACTS was inspired by our loyal and extremely creative fans, many of whom are still finding new and amazing ways of taking out targets in previous Hitman games.
Along with the reveal comes this quartet of screens right out of the game mode.

Contracts 4

Contracts 3

Contracts 2

Contracts 1

Hitman: Absolution is due out in stores on November 20th, but by the time you figure that out, it'll already be too late.
