TA Gaming Stats - August 20th to August 26th 2012

By Chewie, 6 years ago
Last week, we bade a fond farewell to Dog of Thunder, who has written his final stats article and placed himself into a glass case to be broken open in case of emergency. Today, we say hello to ChewieOnIce, who will be attempting to fill Dog's (massive) shoes and bring you the latest and greatest gaming stats from your favourite achievement website.

Oh, hang on a second, that's me! Hello everyone.

Unfortunately, I don't have the fortitude to be the one-man stats army that Dog was, so I've roped in a little help for these articles. I've kidnapped recruited a couple of Ewoks that I'll be affectionately calling the Statisticles. They'll be doing all the easy work collating the figures and making these pretty charts, whilst I focus on cooking up some delicious write-ups to accompany the numbers.

Okay, enough with the intro, on with the meat and potatoes (I've got the hammer for Dog's glass case firmly in my grasp).

This report is for the period August 20th to August 26th 2012.

Games Started
19,250 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 28,538 games between them (1,621 different games).

As Dog predicted last week, Darksiders II and Sleeping Dogs continue to ride the top of the chart, with Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (Xbox 360) slipping in between them to create a AAA sandwich that significantly dominates the numbers.

Everyone realising they want to play Darksiders before moving onto the sequel ensures that it hangs onto the bottom of the table for a second week running. I wonder if we'll see the same thing with https://www.trueachievements.com/Borderlands-xbox-360.htm when https://www.trueachievements.com/Borderlands-2-xbox-360.htm drops in a few weeks, or https://www.trueachievements.com/RESIDENT-EVIL-5-xbox-3....htm when https://www.trueachievements.com/Resident-Evil-6-xbox-3....htm releases, or https://www.trueachievements.com/Wipeout-2-xbox-360.htm when https://www.trueachievements.com/Wipeout-3-xbox-360.htm finally hits...

Ok, I'm just going to say it: I've never played any iteration of Counter Strike. Make of that what you will. Despite that confession, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive unsurprisingly dominates Arcade Games Started this week, with other new release (well, HD port) JoJo's Bizarre Adventure HD settling for a mid-table position.

Crazy Machines Elements and Dead Block make some (not so) surprising appearances thanks to...you guessed it...Deal of the Week. The three other games reduced that week are nowhere to be seen though, proving conclusively that defending against zombies and building Rube Goldberg Devices are our ultimate favourite past times.

Another title destroying the rest of the table? I'm beginning to see a pattern here. Maybe the Statisticles are messing with me on my first week. They'll regret it if they are.

Shoot 1UP (WP), a mobile version of an Indie favourite, shoots down the competition, including last week's top starter Little Acorns (WP). Shocking, just shocking.

The fact that Shuffle Party (WP) still sits firmly on the table is apt because, apart from Shoot 1Up, the rest of the titles are mostly just shuffled from week to week.

Games Completed
6,767 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,586 games between them (1,204 different games).

Last week, Dog was incredulous that such a relatively high number of people had completed Sleeping Dogs within days of its release. Well, maybe it's the lack of multiplayer, or maybe it's just such a hugely absorbing game, but it looks that the big open world game isn't actually that difficult a completion as it leads the Games Completed by quite a margin this week.

The pairing of Darksiders and Darksiders II also make a joint appearance. I wonder if anyone completed both in the same week? Doubtful.

Remember what I said all the way back a few paragraphs about people starting Borderlands for when Borderlands 2 comes out? Well, it turns out that, even if people aren't starting it, they're definitely finishing it.

Guess what? A new episode for The Walking Dead (Xbox 360) came out. Wait, hang on. This is from the week before. Yowsa. The completions for that game just keep on chugging. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and Deadlight also continue to demonstrate their ability to boost your Completed Games total with ease.

People have been dusting off Dust: An Elysian Tail as it jumps up the table and, although not as many people have purchased it, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure HD proves itself an easy completion (over 24% of players have completed as of this moment!)

Would it be wrong of me to make that Shuffle Party joke again on my first week?

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
47,558 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 607,472 achievements online between them (45,476 different achievements).

Darksiders II and Sleeping Dogs split the chart again with a token Transformers: Fall of Cybertron achievement for good measure. I would expect a lot more Transformers achievements next week.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Counter Strike made it's Xbox 360 debut you say?

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Shoot 1Up goes for a clean sweep but some Little Acorns ruin its day.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

Unsurprisingly, the breakdown of Genres is almost identical to last week's, with the only difference being Simulation's return after a week's absence. We missed you Simulation and the one game that allows you to stay in this chart.

  • Action-Adventure7,081,975
  • Shooter4,643,473
  • Role-Playing2,129,804
  • Action1,469,283
  • Sports1,285,095
  • Racing761,265
  • Platformer386,317
  • Music & Rhythm332,069
  • Simulation241,909
  • Adventure201,022

So, that's it. I did it! This week featured a lot of solo games dominating above the others. I wonder how long this pattern will last and when the release schedule filling up again will restore balance and order to the stats.

Let me know how you think the Statisticles and I did. If they did well, I'll be upgrading their Abacus to a Sharp EL-8.
