The Behemoth, the brains behind both Alien Hominid HD and Castle Crashers, have finally put a name to their long-awaited third XBLA title: BattleBlock Theater.
A story about friendship, betrayal, and a whole truck load of cats.
Having shipwrecked on a mysterious island you find yourself both betrayed by your best friend Hatty and captured by the locals. All of this is happening while being forced into deadly performances. This however, is just the start of your problems.
The developers also launched a new trailer for the game, showing off the team-based platforming, while retaining the same art style and humour of their previous titles. You can check it out via their official YouTube channel here:
The game boasts numerous game modes, seeing teams of players (up to 16 players via XBL) duke it out in hazard-filled environments with both co-operative and competitive gameplay. Variants include: a soccer game where teams try to knock the ball into their goal; a stealthier minigame where teams try to knock other players into deadly obstacles and hazards to kill each other; co-op stages where players work together to overcome deadly obstacles to bring creatures back; and, a game where killing your opponent releases their soul into the stage, collecting and holding onto it netting your points. In addition to this, there are also block-painting and coin-collecting modes. Sounds like a pretty impressive selection, no?
No release date or price has been set yet, but The Behemoth has said, "as we inch closer to the release of the title we’ll be unfolding more of the story online." No word on how many inches we are away, however.
