By splicegraph, 8 years ago
For the fans of Tecmo Super Bowl this will come as good news. Game publisher Tecmo officially announced it's plans to release a remake of the Super NES genre defining classic through XBLA this coming Spring titled Tecmo Bowl Throwback.

While the game promises to be as close a remake of the original as possible, including the ability to play in the retro lo-res 2D mode, developers Southend Interactive have also added online multiplayer, leaderboards and a HD 3D mode.

The game will also feature customizable teams and rosters, although, if your expecting to play as one of your favourite NFL teams your sol. Unlike the original, Throwback will not sport official NFL teams or player names due to Electronic Arts exclusivity over that honour.

The ESRB has rated the game as E for everyone, with mild suggestive themes, and describes it as "a top-down arcade-style football game in which players compete against teams around the country to become 'Tecmo Bowl Champion'". They also mention "cheerleaders wearing low-cut tops while dancing", and, "a jumbo tron screen displaying a 2D swimsuit model with some exposed cleavage". (insert giggles here)

No word on what the game will cost or a specific release date, just that it's coming to XBLA this Spring.
