General George Smith Patton Jr. was an eccentric and controversial leader of the United States Army who commanded troops in North Africa, Sicily and Europe during World War II. In 1944, Patton led the US Third Army across Europe as they advanced farther and liberated more territory than any other army. Slitherine and Enigma Software Productions' new strategy title, History Legends of War: Patton
, will put players in charge of Patton's Third Army as they move from the beaches of Normandy in the west of France to Berlin in the heart of Germany.
The game combines strategy gaming with turn-based tactics and RPG elements as players attempt to end the war campaign across the Western European Theatre. Beginning in August 1944, the single player campaign and individual missions will allow players to command special units that include snipers, commandos, fighters, bombers, and more.
There will be a total of 21 different missions spanning four unique operations and four mission types: Attack, Defense, Infiltration, and Sabotage. As players progress through the campaign they will earn prestige points that can be used to enhance their army and their techniques. Prestige is awarded according to the proficiency with which players complete a mission.
The game has been developed in conjunction with the History Channel. At the start of each mission, players will see the historical dates of Patton's battles displayed on screen that apply "a uniquely fact-based framework which completely immerses the player".
The game will also include a Hot Seat mode, a local multiplayer mode that allows two players to battle with each other. Take a look at this previously released trailer showcasing a bit of gameplay.
HISTORY Legends of War: Patton
