Xbox LIVE 10th Anniversary Sale on XBLA Games

By Rebecca Smith,
Microsoft's Xbox LIVE service was first introduced to gamers in November 2002. Players got their own gamertag and could create a list of all of their friends' gamertags. They could play online in certain games and interact with fellow players via voice communication. Finally, players could get extra content for their games via high-speed downloads. By the end of 2002, Unreal Championship, MechAssault, Whacked!, NFL Fever 2003 and Midtown Madness 3 all had LIVE support. By the end of 2003, it was hoped that nearly 50 games would have LIVE support.

Fast forward ten years to 2012 and the vast majority of games now come with some form of LIVE support, and downloadable games and content are released on a weekly basis. November is the month that the service celebrates its tenth birthday, so Microsoft has discounted a variety of XBLA games for a week. Here is the list of discounted games:

Bastion (Xbox 360) - 1200 MSP 600 MSP
Battlefield 1943 - 1200 MSP 600 MSP
Castle Crashers - 1200 MSP 600 MSP
Fruit Ninja Kinect - 800 MSP 400 MSP
https://www.trueachievements.com/Full-House-Poker-xbox-....htm - 800 MSP 400 MSP
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved- 400 MSP 200 MSP
Peggle - 800 MSP 400 MSP

As well as the discounted games, Microsoft is offering a FREE XBLA game for two days only. Wreckateer can be downloaded for absolutely nothing from here, but only until November 16th. The game will return to its full price from November 17th.

The rest of the games are discounted until November 22nd, so don't wait too long to pick up these bargains!

I don't even have a Kinect, but I downloaded Wreckateer anyways, just in case. :-)
This is great advice. It's a good game too IMO.

So, it's a kind of Greatest Hits? I must admit, I'm a little disappointed. I already own everything I want to own on that list.

I don't normally care if a sale is not for me, but I think it was the air of mystery about this one that got my hopes up. :)

I just saw the 10 year xbox console, pretty cool looking, and I am only at 8 years, so I don't think I'll get one. :(

It's a Kinect game, are you kidding me? Way to say "Thanks" to your core gamers who don't give a flying F about motion controls.

I mean, I guess free is free, beggers can't be choosers, I get it... but way to make your "celebration" an advertisement for buying their hyped up accessory so you can dance and flail around in your living room like an idiot. Not interested.
Wreckateer is actually a pretty good game, I had lots of fun with it laugh

As for the sale... meh. Considering I'm STILL recovering from the Steam summer sale, this seems really pathetic.

Yeh its basically pretty lame for a 10 year Anniversary.

Wouldn't have hurt them to do something a bit special.

Its like they suddenly remembered at the last minute & threw something together....

    Hey TA,

I don't think that Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 is reduced from 800 to 400. Instead, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is reduced from 400 to 200.

C'mon Microsoft. I know you don't have to give us any sales at all, but this is a 10th anniversary sale, and this is all you can come up with?

Free game is nice, but I would have preferred something that wasn't Kinect. Pretty sure the rest has been on DotW before. Ah well, it keeps my backlog small I guess.

When you thought Microsoft couldn't get any cheaper .
They get the cvp of xbox live to say "Thank You " haha !
He writes that huge essay saying thank you over and over Instead of getting a super popular game. we get something at the bottom end of the scale
Still free Kinect game that had terrible sales. Thumbs up ?
    Made me smile anyway

While so many are bellyaching over a free Kinect game, I would like to voice my displeasure: a Twitter giveaway? Twitter is absolute shit. Not everyone has or wants Twitter. Stop trying to force us to use this garbage. Core social media users don't want to blah blah blah ... yadda yadda yadda ...
It just so happens that I'm an asshole in real life, too.

This deal for the the 10th anniversary? Wow, I can't wait to see what they are going to offer for the 15th! I'll probably buy the next games on sale thanks to my generous 0.25 cts I'll get for my birthday.

I don't have a Kinect but I'll take free just like I did with all the Fun Labs stuff that was temporarily free. As for the rest of the sale I could take a shit and get better results.

I really expected more "classics" in the sale. I guess hoping for a 200 MSP game was bit much though.

I don't have a kinect, and I think I have all of these XBL games minus one. Couldn't those of us get another arcade non-Kinect enabled game instead?

That's pretty awesome for the free game, I have all the others though. Cannot recommend Bastion enough, you will love it.

You know the company you plow money into are backwards when they consider going back to school more fitting of a decent sale then their tenth year of service.

You should get ten percent of everything , every year you have been a member.
So if you have Live for all 10 years, anything and everything on the marketplace would be free? Yeah.....
