Achievement Preview Spotlight: Far Cry 3

By Jonathan Barnes, 6 years ago
We're closing in on the final, hot releases of 2012 and teeing off December with a quick look at next week's big release, Far Cry 3.

We'll kick things off with the secret news. There are twelve secret achievements worth 400 of the 1000 gamerscore. It's pretty easy to surmise that the majority of these achievements are plot-based.

Aside from that, there are 38 other achievements for us to pick over for some sweet high (and low) points.

I have a tattoo and am planning on getting a few more, making this achievement all the more sexy.

Fully Inked in Far Cry 3
Earn every tattoo by learning all the skills.

Far Cry 3's Skill Tree system focuses on tattoos to show where you've leveled up your character. With that in mind, it looks as if you're going to have to do a lot of leveling to pop this achievement.

Minigames can be rather hit-or-miss in many titles. It seems that Far Cry 3 is going to be the latest to throw their digital hat into the minigame ring.

Poker Bully in Far Cry 3
Win $1500 playing poker.

As a lover of poker, I just hope that this minigame has good functionality and an incentive to play (more than in-game moola, that is).

The next achievement is definitely one to scratch my mystery itch.

Say Hi to the Internet in Far Cry 3
Find the lost Hollywood star.

Who is this Hollywood star? What did they do to end up on the island. Are they dead? Can it please be based on a Kardashian?

This next achievement is Tom Petty approved.

Free Fall in Far Cry 3
Freefall more than 100m and live (Single Player only).

I'm sure the Mythbusters are going to have a lot of fun seeing if this is even remotely possible.

The final spotlight achievement is certainly going to get some PETA folks up in arms.

Poacher in Far Cry 3
Poacher24 (20)
Hunt and skin a rare animal.

Set on a tropical island, one would think that you'll have an entire menagerie of potential creatures to kill and skin. I'm sure that we'll have a complete list of potential game in the game as soon as the release date rolls around.

Aside from those high points, there are two major notes for achievement hunters to consider. First and foremost is the abundance of collectible achievements. A quick count shows there to be at least five achievements that appear to be collectible-based. Secondly, there are six co-op achievements that can be earned either online or off-line, so I hope you have a friend to play with!

Furthermore, at this early stage in the game, it looks as if the big point achievements are all hidden behind the "Secret" wall, so we know very little about them. In this pre-release period, it might appear as if achievements like Island Liberator and Return to Sender might end up with pretty high ratios, though. At the end of the day, Far Cry 3 looks as if it should be a relatively easy completion, provided you have a couple of friends interested in co-op.

Far Cry 3 will be available on November 30th in Europe and on December 4th in North America. Be sure to stay locked in to TrueAchievements for our official review!

If there's an upcoming game that you'd like to see featured in the Achievement Preview Spotlight, be sure to let us know in the comments!
