Metro: Last Light Survivor Profile: The Commander

By Michelle Balsan, 6 years ago
When times of great catastrophe are impending, it is often up to a very small group of individuals to make the toughest of decisions - including who to save and whose lives to leave to fate. When Moscow came under attack, The Commander was a well-respected soldier. A man who commanded the respect of those beneath him and was fiercely loyal to those above.

Then the day came that he shut the doors on a panicked populace, dooming them to whatever was outside there with them. What followed was a painful fall for The Commander, as angered citizens took out their wrath on him, leaving him bloodied and bewildered.

The Commander is not a bad man. Right before the doors closed, he saved a baby from a woman's arms - a baby that, in that moment, reminded him of his wife and two daughters who didn't make it underground. The infant was taken away shortly after he was rescued, and The Commander was not permitted to know anything about what happened to him. This does not mean he has not tried to find out, but even that fruitless quest may no longer sustain him in this harsh environment.

There are other survivors struggling to make life worth living in Metro: Last Light, including The Prophet and The Model. How exactly there stories play out will be revealed to us some time in March 2013.

When not contributing to gaming websites, she makes her living as a mild-mannered librarian. She can be compelled to play just about anything if there's a co-op component, and has been playing games with friends and siblings since the Atari 2600. As it's reportedly healthy to have hobbies outside of gaming, she also roots for some of the most difficult sporting franchises to root for, the New York Mets and New York Jets, but offsets that by rooting for the New Jersey Devils. She's also seen pretty much none of the movies you have, but she's working on that.
