Some might argue that one of the many things that made the original Dead Space
so effective was the silence of the game's protagonist, Isaac Clarke. The character was alone and trying to survive, and that loneliness was emphasized by his lack of speech. When he became a speaking character in Dead Space 2
, many thought it might lessen the impact of Isaac's situation, but it wound up working out just fine.
Now, developer Visceral is taking speech in the Dead Space
franchise to the next level by integrating Kinect voice commands into their upcoming Dead Space 3
. Worry not, Kinect-avoidant gamers, as the Kinect will not be necessary to play the game. If you ever wanted to shout "Fire stasis!" instead of simply pressing the appropriate button to do so, however, you will now have that opportunity when the game releases next year. A full voice-commands list has not yet been detailed, but if such a thing happens, we'll let you know.
In addition to that news, we have a few new screens showing off an icy terrain and a new trailer showcasing some of the game's single player and co-op gameplay.
Dead Space 3
will be released on February 6th, 2013 in North America and in Europe on February 8th. For our previous coverage, including what a pre-order will net you
