Atlus today announced God Mode
, a new third-person shooter with RPG elements set in a "humorously dark view of the afterlife". The title is currently being developed by Old School Games, who are working in collaboration with Saber Interactive, and is due to hit the Xbox LIVE Marketplace early next year.
Atlus have released quite a few details on the game, but here’s a brief description to get us started:
Retro shooter action and RPG elements are combined in this new downloadable third-person shooter. God Mode combines non-linear gameplay, fast and frantic shooting, hordes of on-screen enemies, a fully functional online coop mode, and features visuals and gameplay that rival that of a full-priced boxed title.
In God Mode
, players will take on the role of a descendant of an ancient god who is turned mortal by Hades when his family is banished from Mount Olympus. In order to find redemption and reclaim their place in the pantheon of gods, players will have to battle through the Maze of Hades in the underworld. As well as the main single-player campaign, God Mode
will also offer online and offline (via System Link) co-op play for up to four players.
Characters will be fully customizable in both their appearance and equipment, which are said to “continually evolve”. In addition to accessing more than 11 different weapons, players will also have access to a special ability fuelled by Rage; a resource which is earned by amassing kills. Players can choose from several different powers ranging from offensive, to defensive, to support. By collecting gold and experience players will be able to unlock new weaponry and unique abilities, both of which have the option to be further upgraded.
To help keep the game fresh and exciting, a series of in-game modifiers known as Tests of Faith will alter gameplay on the fly. These modifiers can range from a thick fog that obscures a players view, to summoning a giant minotaur that cannot be damaged until all other enemies in the area are defeated. The modifiers are also randomly chosen, so even when playing the same map again, matches will be unlikely to play out in the same way.
Of course, what you really want to see is some gameplay footage and screenshots, which we’ve happily provided below:
will be available on XBLA worldwide sometime in Early 2013.
