This report is for the period December 31st 2012 to January 6th 2013
Welcome to the Weekly Stats for the very first week of 2013!
Something to get excited about? Well, if I'm honest, not really. It would seem like, following the bump in numbers post-Christmas, many of you were too busy spending time with your families and celebrating the New Year to be playing games, let alone starting new ones, making for a pretty stale Stats for the third week running, made up of all the same titles and significantly smaller numbers.
Of course, that can't really be helped. It's not like there were really any new games actually released over the past few weeks, or at least none that would have much of an impact on the numbers, especially when people are still so focused on the big releases of the past few months and the recent sales.Games Started
29,559 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 46,519 games between them (1,778 different games).
Like I said, not much to see here. 10,000 less TA'ers started new games than the previous week. Retail Games Started sees the same ten titles in the same order, but with the number of starters for all of them pretty much halved.Far Cry 3
has been maybe the surprise hit of the season, staying firmly on the top of the table for a good few weeks now. Since it managed to overtake Halo 4
last week, Call of Duty: Black Ops II
maintains a second place spot and will probably keep its (admittedly slim) lead over its shooter rival from now on, after weeks in CoD
's shadow.Top Retail Games Started
The horde of numbers collected by The Walking Dead (Xbox 360)
continues this week after the popularity of the game in the recent sale, including the first episode being available for free. Although losing almost two thirds of the number of starters from last week, it still grabs an impressive 2,500 starters this week; more than most arcade titles manage to get in a month.
The only new release you'll see on this whole article is Retro City Rampage
in second place. The 8-bit, vintage-feel, top-down, open-world, GTA-style, hyphen-baiting title doesn't exactly pull in amazing numbers (670), but garners enough starters to land it in second. Much of the rest of the table sees the most popular sales titles from the last couple of weeks, but again with lower numbers than last week, all except the freebies Karaoke
app, which actually gets 100 new starters over last week, with 500, pushing it up into third.Top Arcade Games Started
After the massive boost from being on sale, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (WP)
drops down from first into second this week on Windows Phone Games Started, with the very popular (and free) AlphaJax (WP)
retaking its place at the top. Even still, these are all very low numbers. And here I was expecting people to be attached to their phones during all the boring bits in the holiday, like visiting Uncle Kevinbacca and 'listening' to his stories about how the rabbits are eating all his strawberries. 'Strawberry! Thanks Uncle, you just helped me win a round of Wordament. What were you saying?'Top Windows Phone Games StartedGames Completed
10,242 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 15,186 games between them (1,241 different games).
Whilst most of the 'Games Started' tables see a dip in numbers, 'Games Completed' gets a bit of a boost. Around 2,000 more TA'ers completed games than last week, suggesting that whilst you weren't necessarily starting new games, it didn't mean you weren't playing through the games you'd already started.Far Cry 3
in particular pulls in over 200 more completions keeping it firmly in the top spot. LEGO The Lord of the Rings
also adds a decent amount of completions (almost 100), jumping up the table into second
Like last week, the rest of the table is full of the same titles: the popular, relatively easy completions of the past few months and those that have recent DLC.Top Retail Games Completed
Like Arcade Games Started, expect The Walking Dead
to stick around here for a looooong time. Not only is the crazily popular and very easy to complete, but as each episode is completed by players but the next one isn't started, it counts as a 'completion' on this table. Personally, I'm playing the game through now, but I'm deliberately getting at least one achievement from the next episode straight after finishing one, just so it doesn't count as a 'completion' until the game is fully finished.
I think I was as shocked as everyone else when the DLC was first announced for Doritos Crash Course
; a two year old game that was released for free and made thanks to a Doritos-sponsored competition. Regardless, the 'City Lights' DLC has been seemingly pretty popular around here, despite being more expensive (read: not free) than the original game, maybe thanks to some very easy achievements. Currently 93% of the 2,500 players have finished of the DLC, so expect to see it high on next week's table too. Although many of those may not have actually finished the main game. I know, I can't get through those damned Japan levels.Top Arcade Games Completed
Although it may have lost its top spot on Games Started, Pac-Man
keeps its place on top of Windows Games Completed this week, even though it over halves its completions to around 100. This is still around twice the amount of the rest of the games on the table.Top Windows Phone Games CompletedAchievements Won
65,535 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 930,326 achievements online between them (48,009 different achievements).Far Cry 3
grabs another clean sweep on Retail Games Completed, with most of these being from a little later in the story from last week's selection, or for completing more activities.Top Retail Achievements Won
Unsurprisingly, The Walking Dead
clean sweeps it again, with the top eight achievements again being all of the ones from the first episode. The last two this time however are the final two from the last episode. This shows that, apart from those starting the game from scratch, the majority of players are now at the end game.Top Arcade Achievements Won
Last week saw a Pac-Man
clean sweep on Windows Phone Achievements Won, but this week the little yellow blob is nowhere to be seen as AlphaJax
lands a clean sweep of its own. 'Varmint! Thanks Uncle Kevinbacca. That's got me the high score on AlphaJax.'Top Windows Phone Achievements Won
Last week saw the gap between Shooter and Action-Adventure reduce to less than 500,000 in Genre. This week, the gap gets smaller still with it now at less than 200,000. Shooter still maintains the lead though. Last week I wondered if this week would see it drop into second. This week, I'm wondering the same thing about next week.Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
Like I said, not the most exciting Stats in the world. Mostly because it's all so similar to the last few weeks. Get to playing some new games everyone! I'm sure there are plenty unopened on your shelves, just begging to be played. With the GTASC kicking off, there's really no excuse.
