Either the folks at EA Sports can't count or they're celebrating a quarter century of the Madden
series, because today Madden NFL 25
has been officially announced. The game's release date was also revealed for August 27th later this year, just in time for the next kickoff after this Sunday's championship.
What new features will be included have not been discussed in depth but GM of American Football for EA Sports did have this to say:
There’s no better way to celebrate and mark the culmination of 25 years of innovation than by naming this year’s game Madden NFL 25. This year’s game will push the boundaries with gameplay and feature innovations that will lay a very strong foundation for the next 25 years of this storied franchise.
Vague promotional-speak aside, the most exciting news is that the fan-influenced cover vote will return for a third straight year. In 2012, Cleveland Browns runningback Peyton Hillis won the cover thanks to a dedicated and aggressive campaign from the Ohio-faithful. Last year's cover was transformed
when Calvin "Megatron" Johnson beat out Cam Newton in the finals. This year, EA is doing something new. There will be one bracket of 32 current day superstars for fans to debate over, then there will also be a second field of 32 consisting of legendary players.
The winner of each bracket will then face off for the true rights to grace the cover of Madden NFL 25
. The vote kicks off on ESPN's SportsNation
on March 11th. Until then, we can start debating which players past and present will be representing their teams.
