We're less than a week (depending on your region) from the release of Platinum Games' take on the most-beloved stealth franchise in gaming, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
. If you've followed any of the preview coverage (or simply haven't been living under a rock), you know that Solid Snake is out and everyone's favorite cyborg ninja, Raiden, is in. Sneaking is out, and slicing is in. Achievements are now out, and the Achievement Preview Spotlight is in to take a look at a few of the high points.
Let's start with the good news; only five of the fifty achievements (worth 150G) are "Secret", so we can get a really good look at what you can be expected to do with your brand new cyborg ninja. Eight of the remaining achievements (worth 120G) are tied to mission progression and the rest are nice, juicy, and ready for examination.
A handful of achievements focus on killing a certain number of different enemies. The first achievement worth note is only noteworthy because of my intense (and semi-rational) hatred for the Geico Gecko commercials.
Yeah... you wanted Geico, not Gecko!
The next achievement shouldn't be too hard, but it should
be quite stylish.
Since Raiden is able to cut through cars like they're shoes in a late-night infomercial, these executions should be quite... well... satisfying.
Being proud of my German heritage, the next achievement jumped off of the screen and slapped me with an encased meat product.
One would think that acquiring all of the customization options should take a good deal of saving, searching, and buying.
Even the most casual observers of the Metal Gear
series should giggle a bit about our next achievement.
Not much left to say about this one. Let's just hope that there isn't a level set in a building that's in the process of moving.
The final achievement that we'll take a look at is probably going to be the ratio champion for Revengeance
I'm no expert, but "Revegeance" difficulty sounds pretty tough, and an "S" rating sounds like you best have your caffeine levels at "dangerously-twitchy" to be able to nail this guy down.
Other potential high-value achievements include: Virtually a God
(Set the highest score on every VR Mission.), Amateur Radio Operator
(Listen to most of the codec conversations.), Humanitarian Assistance
(Rescue all the civilians.).
While those five secret achievements (and the Lightning God one) may scare off some completionists, the list for Revengeance
all looks relatively accomplishable. Gamers may have to do a few run throughs to get all of the necessary kill count and mission-specific achievements, but, in general, I foresee few major problems.Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
is set for a February 19th release in North America, February 21st release in Europe, and February 22nd release in the UK.
If there's an upcoming game that you'd like to see featured in the Achievement Preview Spotlight, be sure to let us know in the comments!
