Ripping away at the plastic wrap, cracking open those (annoying) seals, opening your game case for the first time and taking in that wonderful industrial plastic smell. If you’re like me this is one of the highlights of your game purchasing experience. Of course with the onset of digital distribution we lose these delightful subtleties. While certainly convenient, watching your download progress on your TV doesn’t compare to physical media and that new game smell.
For those who enjoy such things, or perhaps the other benefits of having an arcade game on a physical disc, can now rejoice with the upcoming release of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
as a retail disc. For $19.99 you’ll get the #1 selling XBLA arcade game on a disc with a game case as seen here.
The retail version will function like an arcade title, much like The Walking Dead
and other XBLA games
that have arrived on disc. Purchasers of the retail game will be up to date all the way to Title Update 9, and will receive any future updates the same as the arcade title. Aside from being on physical media the game will be the same in every way, so don't expect a stackable achievement list. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
arrives on store shelves in the US on April 30th for $19.99. The retail game is also coming to Australia, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan in early June. No word yet on pricing or availability outside of these regions have been revealed as of yet.
