This report is for the period March 18th to March 24th 2013
What ho chaps. This week's Stats is going to be a little brief as I'm currently writing it amidst a big house move. I'm literally surrounded by little boxes full of all my worldly possessions. Luckily having my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, to hand to help with all of the manual labour and packing logistics has been a big help, although I'm finding that they're considerably less helpful from within the little boxes I've packed them into.Games Started
32,541 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 44,352 games between them (1,788 different games).
Two new releases knock Lara from her perch on the top of Retail Games Started, where she has comfortably sat for the past two weeks. The first is no surprise, as Baird and co. claim pole position with almost 15,000 starters, outstripping Tomb Raider
's previous debut week record for 2013 so far by over 6,000 starters. The other new release to pip Tomb Raider
to second place is a little more surprising as The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct
takes the position with almost 2,000 starters, over 500 more than Lara in third. I'll put down The Walking Dead: SD
's relative success to the popularity of the franchise and people's curiosity to see how it fared against its Arcade adventure cousin, because the reviews have been less than kind
Last week's new release, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2
tumbles from second to fifth, losing over 260 starters in the process and Sleeping Dogs
enjoys continued success after being part of the previous week's Square Enix sale
, slipping slightly from third to sixth with over 400 starters.
Despite all the fluctuations and changes to the table, Far Cry 3
holds in strong in fourth place, actually improving on last week's number of starters by a grand total of 3.Top Retail Games Started
Now that the burst of popularity after being on sale has settled down, the three SEGA Vintage fighting titles, Sonic the Fighters
, Fighting Vipers
and Virtua Fighter 2
slide back down the table from the top four into fourth, seventh and eighth places on Arcade Games Started. This puts the three big hitting titles of the last few months, The Walking Dead (Xbox 360)
, Happy Wars (Xbox 360)
and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
, back on top despite all seeing continuously lower numbers. Unfortunately, neither sales nor new releases make enough of an impact to break the top four.
One new release for the week, the unique platformer Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
, manages to make it into a mid-table position with just over 110 starters. However, the week's other new release, the unique platformer Alien Spidy
, doesn't manage to break onto the charts. Last week's new release, Darkstalkers Resurrection
, loses over two thirds of its numbers this week and tumbles from second to sixth place.
Although only on sale for one of these stats days, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
manages to sneak into tenth place with over 60 starters after being part of the aforementioned Square Enix sale.Top Arcade Games Started
New release Shark Dash (WP)
easily takes the top spot on Windows Games Started with almost 400 starters. Another, less popular new release comes in the form of Tiny Plane (WP)
in seventh with only 55 starters, although it was released towards the end of this week so may see a bump in numbers next week. Finally, the last new release on the table and the least popular of all, despite its big name license, is The Dark Knight Rises (WP)
in tenth with 45 starters. The lack of starters probably has something to do with the game's hefty price tag or lack of Bane voice changer. Last week's new release, the cross-platform space strategy title, Galactic Reign (WP)
, slips from first to fourth below the always popular Wordament (WP)
and Shuffle Party (WP)
in second and third.Top Windows Phone Games StartedGames Completed
7,304 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,366 games between them (1,287 different games).
The second chapter in the "The Tyranny of King Washington" saga, "Betrayal
" for Assassin's Creed III
, and its three easy achievements puts the game back at the top of Retail Games Completed with almost 450 completions, only a month after the last chapter did the same thing. Recent DLC releases also keep Sleeping Dogs
, Mass Effect 3
, Battlefield 3
and Dead Space 3
going strong in the table.
After first appearing on the bottom of the table with only almost 80 completions, Tomb Raider
jumps up to second place with over 200 this week now that more and more people are overcoming the multiplayer grind (or using exploits).Top Retail Games Completed
Although we're enjoying plenty of new releases on other tables (yes, including new DLC), Arcade Games Completed unfortunately remains pretty stale and is filled with the same old easy to finish stuff like The Walking Dead
, the SEGA Vintage fighting titles and Harms Way
. No recent new releases make an appearance, but the recent "Online Multiplayer and Wallace Pack
" for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game
at least gives us something a little more interesting, with over 80 completions in sixth place.Top Arcade Games Completed
Not only is Shark Dash
popular but, like many Windows Phone Games, it's also an easy completion, with over 50% of players currently having finished it. Over 150 players completed the game in its release week, putting it easily in first place on Windows Phone Games Completed.
None of the other new releases make it to the table, so it is mostly made up of the same old easy titles, apart from last week's sort-of new release, Trivial Pursuit (WP)
(released to Windows Phone 8), in fifth with a little over 20 completions.Top Windows Phone Games CompletedAchievements Won
67,885 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 883,989 achievements online between them (49,134 different achievements).
Baird goes for a kill streak on Retail Achievements Won and gets ten for ten with GoW: Judgment
. These achievements represent a broad mix of levelling up, story progression and accessing, unlocking or using specific features, such as Aftermath.Top Retail Achievements Won
After a welcome bit of disruption thanks to Sonic and Scott Pilgrim in the last couple of weeks, we go back to the same old routine with The Walking Dead
taking the clean sweep on Arcade Achievements Won. There's really no point saying these are mostly from Episode 5 again, meaning that most players are wrapping it up and signalling the game's downfall. I've said that so many times and it's turned out to be dead wrong every time.Top Arcade Achievements Won
Popular new release, Shark Dash
takes the clean sweep on Windows Phone Achievements Won. Wanna see how far down it goes? We're gonna need a bigger table...*groan*.Top Windows Phone Achievements Won
The lead that Action-Adventure valiantly held over Shooter for the past few weeks on Genre is decimated as GoW: Judgment
helps launch Shooter back into the top spot, adding over 4 million to the numbers to put it over 10 million. Action-Adventure doesn't help its cause much, dropping by over 2 million to a little over 7 million in second place.
All the other genres seem to have got bored with their same old positions on the chart and have played swapsies, with Role-Playing swapping with Action, Sports trading places with Racing, and Adventure, Puzzle and Platformer engaging in some three-way jiggery pokery. The reason for these movements seems mostly to do with the numbers for these pairs (and trio) being close enough that even the slightest variation made them switch, rather than any really big impact titles.Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
I must go now, the moving van has arrived and I have to assure the driver that the scratching noises in the boxes is entirely normal.
