No More DLC for Skyrim as Bethesda is Moving On

By SgtDigglesworth, 5 years ago
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a game that has been cherished and experienced by many gamers through out the world. From countless hours of exploration, travelling to misty mountain peaks, and thwarting off dragons with vigor, this is a game that provided, and will continue to provide, much excitement in the global gaming community.

All good things must come to an end, however, as Bethesda announced earlier that they are going to stop making DLC for Skyrim in order to maintain focus on their new "project". Here is the announcement via the official Bethesda Softworks Blog:

Skyrim has been a labor of love for us since we started designing it in 2006. We never imagined it would become the phenomenon it has. And that is because of you, the fans. It was all of you who made it a success. We can’t thank you enough for embracing the game, spreading the word, and making it your own.

For the last year and a half we’ve been working on new content for Skyrim; from the game updates, Creation Kit, Steam Workshop, Kinect support, to DLCs. Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio’s full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet.

Even though we’re moving on, we’ll still have minor updates to Skyrim as needed. We’ve invested so much of ourselves into Skyrim and will never truly say goodbye to it.

We loved hearing your stories, your in-game triumphs, and your suggestions. One thing stuck out to us through those emails, letters, and postings. And that is – video games matter. They’re as important to you as they are to us. It’s not just about entertainment, it’s about your time. And you chose to spend it with our game.

Thank you again for all your support. We hope you stay engaged in the gaming community here and elsewhere. Keep spreading the word. Games are the world’s best entertainment because they can do what other forms cannot – fill you with the wonder of exploration and the pride of accomplishment. We look forward to sharing our next adventure with you.

Until next time,

Bethesda Game Studios
It is good to see that by "moving-on" they are not "giving up" on Skyrim, as they will still maintain focus on fixes and updates to help ensure the top-tier gameplay experience gamers have grown to love. A great example is their latest update 1.9.

We here at TrueAchievements do not subscribe to rumours, yet it has been known that in Fallout 3 the characters of the game, especially during the DLC, The Pit commonly referred to a place known as, The Commonwealth. The Commonwealth was also home to a place they called "The Institute". Through deductive reasoning and a ton of thought-bubbles, the great state of Massachusetts is home to both Cambridge University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which the latter could easily be seen as, "The Institute".

Furthermore, Massachusetts is known as "The Commonwealth of Massachusetts". This truly has no purpose in regards to the rest of the states, however it does serve as a valid point with regards to the speculation of a new Fallout being Bethesda's "next adventure".

Could the next in-house project actually be a new Fallout? Or are they referring to the Elder Scrolls Online, the new MMO that will require a ton of work and man hours to maintain?

It would be great to hear what you, the community, think of Bethesda moving on and focusing on their "next adventure".

Thank you to all of the community members who sent this story in!
