FIFA 14 Announced By Dave Horobin, 18 Apr 2013 CommentsEA officially announced the next iteration in their annual football (soccer) franchise today with the reveal of FIFA 14, which is scheduled for release later this year.Along with the announcement came details of some of the new features and improvements to the franchise that has scooped the TrueAchievements "Best Sports" award over the last two years, and allows gamers to "experience the emotion of scoring great goals".The first major change revealed was the new Pure Shot feature that gives the player the intelligence to adjust their body position or stride pattern and approach to find the best angle to hit the perfect shot, which will feel "more exhilarating and rewarding". There will be three new shot types - pure shot, off-balance and rushed - which, when combined with Real Ball Physics, will help determine the trajectory of the ball and allow for dipping and turbulent shots, powerful shots from distance, and accurate close range finishes. Two videos were released with the announcement showing the new Pure Shot and Real Ball Physics features in action. To try to counter the exciting yet unrealistic gameplay that quite often sees matches in FIFA being too open and end to end, new features have been added to help players control the tempo of the match. "Protect the Ball" will allow you to block and fend off defenders whilst dribbling at any speed, or out-muscle opponents when waiting to receive a pass.Teammate intelligence has been improved to allow better AI decision making when tracking runs, marking and looking to make an interception. There are also improvements to the AI's intelligence when you're in possession of the ball, as players will look to run into space and change their pace to try and shake off defenders. The final improvements revealed to the actual matches is the inclusion of Sprint Dribble Turns and Variable Dribble Touches, which will allow players to change their direction whilst dribbling at full speed without any loss of momentum, and offer a variety of touches. The higher the skill of the player, the better touch and control the player will have with the ball.Lastly we were introduced to the new Global Scouting Network that will change the way we search for new talent in Career mode. The new feature allows you to develop and refine a global network of scouts that work all year in the hope of finding you the next bargain in the transfer market.FIFA 14 will be available this fall.VideoScreenshotsUpcoming ReleaseXbox 360Kinect Written by Dave HorobinDave is the TrueAchievements Social Manager and has been a Newshound since 2010.
