TA Gaming Stats - April 15th to 21st 2013

By Chewie, 5 years ago
This report is for the period April 15th to April 21st 2013.

In honour of the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us, a DC Universe based fighter from NetherRealm, we've been holding a little tournament here in the Stats office. Instead of using fists, feet and super powers as their weapons, however, my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, are using the power of numbers to defeat each other. We've got such heroes and villains as Range Ranger, The Mean Meanie, Correlation Kid and Multivariate Random Variable Man. My favourite part is at the end of each match when, rather than performing a Fatality, the winning combatant executes a Factorial Experiment. It's brutal stuff.

Games Started
28,181 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 41,959 games between them (1,850 different games).

The aforementioned DC beat-em-up, Injustice: GAU knocks BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360) from the number one position after three long weeks at the top, pulling in decent numbers with over 5,300 starters. Bioshock sees a leveling off of its numbers; it only loses 400 starters, taking in around 1,500.

With no other new releases for the month, the rest of the table sees the biggest releases for the last couple of months and the end of last year in almost the exact same order and similar numbers as last week, the only noticeable change being The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct slipping off the bottom chart, never to be resurrected.

Two new releases make their way onto Arcade Games Started this week, but neither pull in spectacular numbers or high positions on the table: "Run and gun" shooter, God Mode, takes sixth place with just under 300 starters and beat-em-up Sacred spin off, Sacred Citadel, gets 280 starters and an eighth place position.

Last week's new release, Motocross Madness, loses 500 starters to 300 and slides down the table from first to seventh. The previous week's new release, BattleBlock Theater, fares a lot better, losing a little over 250 starters to 420 and retaining a hold on second place. Although not exactly new releases, the Twisted Pixel Bundle gives Comic Jumper a fourth place position and The Maw a ninth place spot. Interestingly, Splosion Man and Ms. Splosion Man from the same bundle don't make the chart.

The Arcade-filled Deal of the Week claims three spots on the table. It could easily have been more, considering there were ten games on offer, but two of the three that do make it onto the table do it in style. I Am Alive has been on sale once before, back in November at a third of its normal price. It seems many gamers didn't bite on that offer as it failed to appear in that week's Stats. This week it saw a heftier discount, with 60% off, meaning all those who chose to wait were well rewarded: over 500 TAers started the game, giving it a solid first place position. The other sale title that does well is Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit, which has been on sale a few times before and makes the table every time. It takes third place with nearly 400 starters. The final sale title, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved², just makes it onto the table in tenth place with 250 starters.

It's worth mentioning that this week is a landmark week: it's the first week since the first episode was released this time last year that The Walking Dead (Xbox 360) has not been on the table for Games Started! It'll almost definitely be back next week though.

Top Arcade Games Started

The previous week's free Miniclip games offer continues to prove very popular on Windows Phone Games Started, as Fragger (WP), Monster Island (WP), iStunt 2 (WP) and Gravity Guy (WP) dominate the top of the table again this week, although they all see a drop of between 500 and 1000 starters. Sandwiched between them is the popular new release, Cut the Rope: Experiments (WP), in third with 450 starters.

This week's Deal of the Week grabs exactly 100 starters (1-UP!!) in sixth, whereas last week's deal title, Tiki Towers (WP), follows shortly behind with under 90.

Games Completed
7,508 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,592 games between them (1,251 different games).

Following the burst of completions last week due to new DLC, Halo 4, slips down into second place on Retail Games Completed this week, putting Bioshock Infinite back on top, despite that game dropping by nearly 200 completions. The "Uprising" DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops II shoots it up into third place with 300 completions. The "1000 Club Expansion Pack" does a similar thing for Forza Horizon, putting it in fourth with 190 completions.

At the bottom of the table, BioShock (Xbox 360) pops up with 70 completions, no doubt thanks to all the positive press surrounding the latest iteration and people thinking "You know what, I really need to finish the first one".

Top Retail Games Completed

It's a sale-filled week for Arcade Games Completed, with Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit, Deadlight, Mark of the Ninja and Dust: An Elysian Tail appearing thanks to recent sales. Twisted Pixel Bundle title, Comic Jumper, also jumps up onto the table in fifth with 55 completions.

Oh, and there's also The Walking Dead.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Cut the Rope: Experiments proves an easy completion (currently over half of players have finished it), taking the top spot on Windows Phone Games Completed with just under 250 completions, over twice as many as the next title on the table. Those free Miniclip titles also make their presence felt - minus Gravity Guy - with Monster Island in second, Fragger in third and iStunt 2 in ninth.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
71,732 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 822,865 achievements online between them (49,546 different achievements).

Three of the ten achievements for the "Uprising" pack for CoD: BlOps2 take the top spots for Retail Achievements Won. That leaves Injustice: GAU to take the remaining seven spots with achievements for performing specific actions and leveling up.

Top Retail Achievements Won

It's a mixed bag of achievements on Arcade Achievements Won, with I Am Alive claiming the top two spots for making your first machete kill and helping your first survivor. Three games claim single achievements on the table: Hell Yeah! in fifth, Comic Jumper in seventh and Motocross Madness in tenth. The rest of the table is filled by BattleBlock Theater

Top Arcade Achievements Won

This week's Windows Phone Achievements Won is almost a direct copy of last week, with the same three free Miniclip titles filling up all of the spaces.

Shooter continues to dip in Genre this week; however, this time only by a small amount (less than 1 million) so it retains first place, with its rival Action-Adventure holding steady in second with 5.4 million. Injustice boosts Action up into third, adding 2 million to the total and putting it around 3.7 million.
