TA Gaming Stats - April 22nd to April 28th 2013

By Chewie, 5 years ago
This report is for the period April 22nd to April 28th 2013.

Welcome to the Stats for the final full week of April here on TA. Last week saw some shenanigans here in the TA office with a Stats-themed fighting tournament from my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles. I'm sure you're all keen to know who the winner was. Was it Corellation Kid or Variance Vixon? Well, the answer is that the winner...is me. Yes, after a heated 'math-off' that descended into extreme tedium, I decided to take the crown for myself. Don't worry though, all of the other participants have their place in history and have been stuffed and put on display in a special new themed restaurant 'The Hard Stats Cafe'.

Games Started
28,576 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 42,423 games between them (1,855 different games).

New release Dead Island Riptide (Xbox 360) shambles to the top of Retail Games Started with over 4,700. Although it does a lot better than any other title this week, it is still one of the less well-performing debuts of the last couple of months, including last week's, Injustice: Gods Among Us, which pulled in over 5,300 starters. However, if we really want to see a poor performing debut, we only need to cast our eyes to the number four spot, where Star Trek doesn't even break 1,000 starters. Although not exactly a new release, the Dark Arisen version of Dragon's Dogma manages to put it into eighth place on the table with 350 starters, almost a year after the original game was released.

Injustice slips into second place, losing nearly 4,000 starters and settling into nearly 1,600. Defiance makes a drop from third to seventh, slipping below the big names of BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360), Tomb Raider and Gears of War: Judgment.

After an impressive five months in the chart, it looks like Far Cry 3 may finally be on its way out as it circles the bottom of the table in ninth place, though it still manages to outperform the more recent release of Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel in tenth.

Top Retail Games Started

With the draw of playing cards with some of the most entertaining characters across different media and some glowing reviews, Telltale Games' Poker Night 2 easily storms into first place on Arcade Games Started with over 2,000 starters. Now that many of the previous week's sales titles have slipped off the table (with the exception of I Am Alive in fifth), last week's new release, God Mode, is allowed to jump from sixth to second place with 360 starters.

Continuing a series of Arcade-heavy Deal of the Weeks, this week saw many Arcade titles on sale. However, only the serious discounts of From Dust and Quantum Conundrum are enough to take spots on the chart, in third and sixth places.

Top Arcade Games Started

Two new releases make it onto Windows Phone Games Started this week, although both have very different fortunes and neither can challenge the popularity of last week's new release, Cut the Rope: Experiments (WP), which adds over 300 starters to its total thanks to an early price cut, putting it at over 780. The first new release, Ice Age Village (WP), takes 380 starters in second places, whereas the other new release, MONOPOLY Millionaire (WP), takes I'm just under 100 in tenth. Although not a new release, being made available to other brand phones after being a Nokia exclusive puts Connect 4 (WP) in eighth with 130 starters.

Even though the free Miniclip games games promotion was over by now, all four titles still take high spots in the chart, with Fragger (WP) in third, Monster Island (WP) in fourth, iStunt 2 (WP) in sixth and Gravity Guy (WP) in seventh. Mushed between them in fifth is Deal of the Week title Mush (WP), with 220 starters.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
7,550 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,572 games between them (1,266 different games).

With the final chapter of the "The Tyranny of King Washington" being unleashed, Assassin's Creed III takes the too of Retail Games Completed for what will probably be the final time with 660 completions. The rest of the table reads very similar to previous weeks, with a mix of the easiest and most popular new releases or big titles with recent DLC.

Top Retail Games Completed

Proving a relatively easy completion thanks to entirely single player and straightforward achievements, Telltale Games' Poker Night 2 takes the number two spot on Arcade Games Completed in its debut week with 160 completions.

Apart from that, the Arcade table, like the Retail table, is very similar to last week's. Although, whereas Retail is full of new releases and DLC, Arcade is full of titles that are discounted, easy or both.

And no. I'm not mentioning the zombie elephant in the room that still resides in first place.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Just as it grows its starters on Games Started, Cut the Rope: Experiments grows its completions on Windows Phone Games Completed by 200 this week, putting its total to nearly 450 in first place. Despite a poor showing on Games Started, MONOPOLY Millionaires fares better on Games Completed in seventh with 30 completions, thanks to easy achievements. To date, over 43% of players have completed it.

Although never appearing on any tables since its mid-March release. Enough players completed Dream Track Nation (WP) to put it into tenth place with 20 completions.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
69,069 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 756,798 achievements online between them (50,226 different achievements).

Dead Island Riptide is denied the clean sweep in Retail Achievements Won thanks to individual entries from Call of Duty: Black Ops II in sixth, Assassin's Creed III in eighth and Gears of War: Judgment I'm ninth.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Telltale Games' Poker Night 2 doesn't let anything deny its clean sweep in Arcade Achievements Won, which isn't too surprising considering the game's popularity and the ease of many of its achievements.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

With the drop in its price and the drop in the Miniclip games' popularity, Cut the Rope: Experiments easily claims a clean sweep on Windows Phone Games Completed. The easy achievements probably helped too.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Again seeing a dip in numbers (this time around 2million), Shooter edges ever closer to losing its hold on the top of Genre to Action-Adventure, which stays steady around the 5million mark. Thanks to Dead Island Riptide, Role-Playing gets a boost of 1.4million and jumps ahead of Action from fourth to third. That's nothing compared to Card & Board which leaps from somewhere off the bottom of the table into seventh place, thanks to Telltale Games' Poker Night 2

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

  • Action-Adventure5,029,166
  • Role-Playing4,111,520

Next week we'll be continuing to see the release schedule dry up like old people in quicksand, apart from some Gears DLC and a couple of Arcade releases. But we'll also be looking at the Stats for the whole of April. So there's that.
