Ubisoft today sent out a press release revealing some more information about the just-confirmed Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
The game is set to ship "late 2010" and interestingly, is being developed as a worldwide production effort led by the series' Ubisoft Montreal studio, with collaboration from numerous Ubi studios, including Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X
developer Ubisoft Bucharest and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory's
multiplayer developer Ubisoft Annecy, as well as the publisher's Singapore and Québec City studios. Many hands making light work, or too many cooks ruining a metaphorical brother?
The somewhat vague press release details some brief outlines of what to expect from the game:
The critically acclaimed single player experience of Assassin’s Creed is back and better than ever as Ezio returns in a powerful struggle against the powerful Templar Order. Now a legendary Master Assassin, he must journey to Rome, center of power, greed and corruption to strike at the heart of the enemy. Defeating the corrupt tyrants entrenched there will require not only strength, but leadership, as Ezio commands an entire Brotherhood that will rally to his side. Only by working together can the Assassins defeat their mortal enemies.
And for the first time, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood offers a never-before-seen multiplayer layer. Players can help the Templars by using Abstergo to train in the art of Assassination to eliminate the Assassins once and for all. Players can choose from a wide range of unique characters, each with their own signature weapons and assassination techniques, and match their skills against other players from all over the world in different game modes.
So, while there's still no solid confirmation about what the multiplayer will entail, it does at least sound
like it'll be co-op. Right? We can hope! Then again, there is potential for some competitive online, maybe pitting Abstergo against Assassins more directly? With E3 a mere month away, I'm sure we'll get some more substantial information there.
The game's website also saw an update, but in the very irritating way we've come to expect from the AC series, it's pretty darn cryptic, camouflaging most of the information firmly behind closed doors. Click the external link below to check out the game's official teaser trailer and have a peep at the website for yourself.
The trailer definitely seems to outline an even stronger divide between the Templars and Assassins and even greater conflict, with Vidic probing harder to utilises the Animus' power to fight against the "wrong side of history." It's awfully cryptic and vague though.
After the trailer plays, the site loads up a weapons page, displaying what we can safely assume to be new items for the game, namely an axe, a syringe, a fan containing hidden blades, a concealable double-edged dagger and a beastly looking claw. Also, this page contains even more cryptic wizardry, but I'm totally not smart enough to solve any of it or even begin to work out any information from it. But there has been two pieces of artwork/screenshots released with this announced, viewable here: http://www.oxm.co.uk/viewer.php?mode=article&id=14121
What do you guys reckon? Anything hidden on that website that I'm not seeing, or any more information hidden (or in plain view) anywhere? Drop a comment, let's speculate together!
