This report is for the period May 6th to May 12th 2013
With so little happening in the way of releases this week, it's holiday season here in the stats office. I am literally winging my way to the hotter climates of Tatooine as we speak. Unfortunately, I couldn't bring any of my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, with me - something about them not seeing 'eye-to-eye' with the Jawas - so they're back home holding the fort. This also means that I won't be handling the stats next week (and explains why this one is a bit later going out). I don't trust the Statisticles to produce anything other than mindless gibberish, so you may get lucky and have a guest editor. Or you may not get any stats at all. I'm not sure anyone else can handle a rom full of semi-rabid, numbers-crazed Ewoks like I can.Games Started
30,341 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 45,205 games between them (1,878 different games).
For the second week running, no new releases make the chart for Retail Games Started. This means we're mostly looking at the same titles as the last few weeks with lower numbers. No game on the table breaks 1,000, with BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360)
coming closest in first with just over 800 starters, jumping ahead of recent releases Dead Island Riptide (Xbox 360)
and Injustice: Gods Among Us
in second and third.
Other recent release, Star Trek
, slips off the table after taking in poor numbers for the duration of its short time on the chart.Top Retail Games Started
Two new releases make it onto Arcade Games Started this week, but one fares considerably better than the other. Two weeks ago I was asked how many starters I predicted the free game Doritos Crash Course 2
would pick up. I made the (admittedly rather conservative) estimate of 4,000 starters, but the game has easily smashed that number, bringing in over 12,000 starters in its debut week. Everyone loves free gamerscore. With the sequel getting so much attention, the original also gets its profile raised and pops up at the bottom of the table with 130. Although, also being free, it's no stranger to the charts.
The other new release, Monaco: What's Yours is Mine
, a top-down arcade-style heist game, fares a little worse, taking in just 330 starters in third place after having a couple of false starts on its release. Last week's new release, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon
, does much better in second with 1,300 starters. Although even this is a significant drop from last week's over 4,000.
Serious Sam is no stranger to discounts and reductions after a number of his titles were in Deal of the Week last December
and then permanently reduced this March
. Apparently all those discounts weren't enough for old Sam though, as all his Arcade outings have again been reduced in this week's Deal of the Week
, although only Serious Sam 3: BFE
makes the table in ninth with 155 starters.Top Arcade Games Started
Like Arcade, another free title storms the chart for Windows Phone Games Started, with Monster Burner (WP)
pulling in 1,200 starters. I'd expect this number to stay consistently high next week, but then drop off noticeably in subsequent weeks after they decided to add a price tag
to the game. Last week's 'new' release, Angry Birds Classic (WP)
, drops down to second place and loses half its starters.
This week's Deal of the Week title, the Salon management title Sally's Salon: Luxury Edition (WP)
, takes third with 190 starters, whereas last week's Deal of the Week title, the farm management title Farm Frenzy 2 (WP)
, sticks around in sixth with 90. I think the two games should get together and make some mash-up babies: Sally's Farm
, in which our heroine has to relocate to the country following bankruptcy and use her styling skills for sheep shearing, and Salon Frenzy
, in which you must collect eggs from salon customers whilst protecting them from bear attacks.Top Windows Phone Games StartedGames Completed
7,755 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,834 games between them (1,332 different games).
With no new easy releases or DLC, Retail Games Completed paints a very similar picture to last week, with Dead Island Riptide
taking pole position above the likes of Bioshock Infinite
and Far Cry 3
.Top Retail Games Completed
Arcade Games Completed also closely matches last week, with the exception of new release, Doritios Crash Course 2
, taking second place with 380 completions, despite many players claiming they encountered issues getting onto the game in the first few days. It nowhere near challenges the number one title, however, as Far Cry Blood Dragon
increases its numbers from last week by 200, allowing it to break 1,000 completions.Top Arcade Games Completed
I hate to sound like a broken record, but with Monster Burner
proving a bit of a grind, Windows Phone Games Completed also doesn't give us anything too new or exciting. Even the relatively easy completion of Sally's Salon
doesn't make the list. Instead we get Cut the Rope: Experiments (WP)
continuing to dominate in first, above some easy Miniclip games and a mix of the same old popular/easy stuff.Top Windows Phone Games CompletedAchievements Won
65,058 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 762,015 achievements online between them (50,535 different achievements).Dead Island Riptide
again shambles away with the clean sweep on Retail Achievements Won, including You've tricked me once
, for completing the game, in seventh.Top Retail Achievements Won
With a large selection of easy achievements mixed in with a few harder or grindy ones, Doritos Crash Course 2
easily grabs the clean sweep for Arcade Achievements Won.Top Arcade Achievements Won
With a couple of difficult and grindy achievements, Monster Burner
doesn't quite take the clean sweep on Windows Phone Achievements Won, losing out to Angry Birds Classic
in ninth and tenth, despite its overwhelming popularity.Top Windows Phone Achievements Won
With so few big releases on the chart, Genre remains mostly unchanged this week, except for Platformer adding an impressive over 2million to its numbers and leaping from ninth to fourth, thanks to Doritos Crash Course 2
. Card & Board also slips down from seventh to ninth, losing 200,000, now that the buzz of Telltale Games' Poker Night 2
has passed.Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
