Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows (Part 1)

The no doubt financially motivated decision to split the final Harry Potter film into two parts has spilled over into the gaming franchise too. The final game in the Harry Potter seriest will also be split over two separate titles with the latter likely arriving in connection with the second half of the film next year.

Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows (Part 1) will arrive on the Xbox 360 around the fall period later this year under the guidance of Warner Brothers Interactive and EA.

Jonathan Bunney, Head of Production, has promised the Deathly Hallows tie in will be "darker and more action oriented" than it's predecessors. The player will be pitched against a wide variety of enemies from across the history of the Harry Potter world. Death Eaters are said to make an appearance, and to keep in fitting with the games darker approach we can expect enemies such as The Dementors to make a reappearance too.

It's also said that the Invisibility Cloak will be involved in the game as stealth will be very important to the core gameplay. This will likely be facilitated by the fact that Hogwarts is ditched as the traditional backdrop for this piece of story telling, and instead we focus on the trio's escapades out in the big bad world.

Imagery, videos and precise details are scarce and not forthcoming as EA's hands are somewhat tied by the Hollywood moguls wanting to keep as much under wraps as possible, but a select few gamers have had a quick hands on with the title. First impressions are of a game which seems to be 'different' from others in the series, and one which stands up fairly well on it's own.

The previous games in the franchise haven't been what you'd call great... or even good. But EA's Surrey, England based Bright Light Studio appear to believe they can break the mould this time round.
