Those of you that have been registered on TA for many years might remember that the TA forums were hand-coded from scratch pretty early on in the site's existence. I have a phobia of using plugins and other people's code, so initially the forum feature set was pretty limited.
As with most things on TA, I added functionality as people requested it, and the forums have evolved to the slightly messy and tricky to navigate state that they are currently in. With news posts and game pages having threads embedded into them, I realise it's now quite hard to keep track of all the threads and forums you want to.
So, I have now created a Forum Hub
From here, you can easily see all the forums on the site, separated into their categories. You can now also see which forums have sub-forums, such as the Game Discussion Forum
- each thread in this board is associated with a game, and you will see those threads on the Forum tab of each Game page.
You can also filter the forums on the Forum Hub to just show the forums you are subscribed to, and in the sub forum view you can filter to just show the forums for the games you own.
By far the easiest way to keep track of threads on the site is to subscribe to the forums you are most interested in, and then have the Show all threads in My Forums
option ticked in the My Threads
tab of the Forum Hub. This view combines all of the threads from all of your forums into one combined list - very handy! If you want to use this view as your default view for My Threads, you can turn that on in My Forum Settings
I've also tidied up a lot of the buttons for thread and forum management into dropdowns where appropriate.
And finally, the Quick Reply box now has the formatting toolbar attached so you can easily add smileys etc when quick replying. Click the Save button on the Quick Reply toolbar to post, and the Eye button to Preview. Also, to avoid confusion, if you type something in the Quick Reply box and then click the Post reply
button by mistake (it's in the same place the Quick reply button used to be), it will post your reply as normal.
Have a great weekend!
