TA Gaming Stats - June 17th to June 23rd 2013

By Chewie, 5 years ago
This report is for the period June 17th to June 23rd 2013.

It's Stat time again folks as my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, and I bring you the latest and greatest numbers from TA's databases. Then again, with a dismal release calendar at the moment, these are more like the latest and adequatest (new word) numbers.

Games Started
22,405 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 33,053 games between them (1,854 different games).

After being made free as the first game from the Games with Gold program announced at E3, Fable III continues to rule the roost at the top of Retail Games Started. It does lose two thirds of its starters so it seems that most players picked it up the first week of the promotion, but I wonder how many TAers decided to hold back starting it until this year's Bean Dive. I did, for one.

After a disappointing release week and halving its numbers last week, Remember Me begins its slide down the table as it drops from second to fifth place, behind the three most consistently popular titles here on TA in the last few months: BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360), Tomb Raider and Far Cry 3.

Thanks to the special SEGA sale, the blue hedgehog makes an appearance on the table as the Games on Demand version of Sonic Generations pops up in sixth with 250 starters.

Top Retail Games Started

New release Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara doesn't manage to break the top of Arcade Games Started with its over 500 starters. Instead, State of Decay and Doritos Crash Course 2 continue to dominate the numbers, despite both dropping by hundreds of starters.

With no other big releases and a PopCap Deal of the Week for the bajillionth time, the SEGA sale claims a few spots on the table this week, with Guardian Heroes, The Cave and Sonic The Hedgehog (Arcade) proving the most popular of the nearly 20 titles on offer.

The appearance of Microsoft Store in the charts last week caused a bit of a stir in the comments with some asserting that, seeing as it isn't technically a 'game', it shouldn't really be tracked on these Stats. Well, I had a word with the Statisticles and they told me that, unfortunately, because of how the Stats are generated and the tables are put together, having it appear is currently unavoidable. Because of this minor oversight, I put all the Statisticles into a 'Try Harder' program which entails fun activities such as Advanced Not-Drowning and Escape a Lava Pit 101. Regardless, even if it's not a game, the number of pre-orders made by TA'ers of the Xbone through the dashboard is a Stat and this week the number of pre-orderers drops from 580 to 215, which I'd say is a pretty significant drop to a pretty significantly low number.

Top Arcade Games Started

Deal of the Week title KooZac (WP) manages to take the top spot on Windows Phone Games Started with 260 starters, above recent popular new release Jetpack Joyride (WP). I have to say though that many of those new starters were actually Statisticles, who couldn't resist the draw of a numbers-based puzzler and sat for hours staring intently at the colourful figures. Hey, maybe that's why they dropped the ball with that whole Microsoft Store thing.

Despite a reputation for games with unobtainable achievements, the Gameloft sale did pretty well this week, with Asphalt 5 (WP), UNO (WP), The Oregon Trail (WP) and The Dark Knight Rises (WP) all making appearances. Although those four titles are ones that are actually completable, so no wonder they were more popular than others here on TA, such as The Amazing Spider-Man (WP) or Brain Challenge HD (WP).

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
6,454 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,125 games between them (1,290 different games).

Now that people have had some time to progress through Fable III and get to sharing their weapons, the game pops up in the middle of Retail Games Completed this week with 90 completions. Apart from that new entry, we're looking at a very similar table as the past few weeks with a mix of very popular games (Bioshock Infinite), very easy ones (Sleeping Dogs), or both (Far Cry 3).

Top Retail Games Completed

It's a similar story of familiarity on Arcade Games Completed with the popular (State of Decay) and easy (The Walking Dead (Xbox 360)) battling it out with that set of titles which always hang around the tables like a bad smell: the free (Doritos Crash Course 2 and Harms Way). We do get a few unique titles thanks to the easiest of the SEGA sale games, Daytona USA in fourth and Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown in ninth. Dragon's Lair also makes an appearance in tenth place, with over 65 players being drawn to complete it in conjunction with the time-sensitive achievement for playing the classic on its anniversary.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Jetpack Joyride continues to ride high on Windows Phone Games Completed, above the easiest Gameloft sale title, UNO, in second, as well as recent Deal of the Week titles, Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution (WP) and BulletAsylum (WP).

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
58,308 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 633,267 achievements online between them (49,932 different achievements).

The new Lost Relics DLC for Gears of War: Judgment denies Fable III most of the spots on Retail Achievements Won this week, claiming seven spots on the table. During this week, the pack was only available for Season Pass holders and was made available to other players on the 25th, so it may take some spots next week, although it will have Deadpool (Xbox 360) to contend with. I would expect it to make a return to Games Completed though, as the DLC does appear to be rather easy.

Top Retail Achievements Won

State of Decay manages a third week of clean sweeps on Arcade Achievements Won. With the free-to-play Spartacus Legends appearing in next week's Stats, I don't expect this trend to continue.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

The Statisticles and KooZac manage to deny Jetpack Joyride its fourth clean sweep on Windows Phone Achievements Won, nabbing the top spot and fourth place with the power of numbers. Clearly a force to be reckoned with.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Although it only shows on one table, the volume of Gears of War Judgment players working through the DLC is probably what pushes Shooter back into the top spot on Genre this week, edging over Action-Adventure. However, the latter genre also dropped in numbers now that the initial surge in Fable III starters is passing. Elsewhere, KooZac manages to lift Puzzle from tenth to eighth place, above Adventure and Strategy.

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
  • Shooter5,056,508
  • Action-Adventure4,861,646
  • Role-Playing3,307,848
  • Action1,777,428
  • Racing1,148,932
  • Sports892,296
  • Platformer664,468
  • Puzzle326,386
  • Adventure319,322
  • Strategy256,530

That's all for now. I'll be taking a break next week as I'll be focusing primarily on my 50-60 game Bean Dive. Don't fret though, as a friendly sounding chap called Deadpool will be filling in for me. I do hope he looks after the Statisticles.
