This report is for the period July 1st to July 7th 2013
After having our regularly scheduled programming overseen by the Merc with a Mouth last week
, I returned to the Stats office to discover a stack of calculators with the number 58008 on them, hundreds of sheets of paper covered with numbers and tables on them strewn everywhere, a massive hole in the ceiling, and a horde of severely maimed Statisticles. Business as usual then.
This week will see some impact from the site's Bean Dive
event, which saw over 1,000 TA'ers starting all their game backlog over one crazy week. However, the impact of the event on the stats is somewhat lessened by some decent sales that kicked off at the same time. Many divers will have also been adding those sales titles to their ongoing dives, though.Games Started
34,013 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 67,368 games between them (2,087 different games).
All but two of the top ten most popular started Retail titles were reduced as part of the Games on Demand sale
over the course of the week. Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360)
lords over the rest with over 1,700, a number no doubt bolstered thanks to the Deal of the Week DLC discounts
also going on for the game at the same time. Regular fixture of the table, Far Cry 3
, proves popular with 1,350 starters in second, with Crysis
following shortly behind in third (the first time the Games on Demand only title has been reduced in some regions), whilst the likes of Forza Horizon
and Assassin's Creed III
appear further down, amongst other popular discounted titles old and new.
Despite not being free any more, last month's "Games with Gold" title, Fable III
, still makes a strong showing in sixth with 860 starters, presumably a good portion of which were Bean Divers who (like me) had held off starting the game until the event started.
With all the sale goodness, last week's new release, Deadpool (Xbox 360)
, tumbles down the table from first to seventh, slicing off almost 1,200 starters in the process. I'm glad Deadpool himself didn't stick around to see that. Who knows what state the Statisticles would have been in had he seen that drop.Top Retail Games Started
The "Games with Gold" title for the first half of July sees an Arcade, rather than Retail, title being offered for free. Classic tower defence title Defense Grid: The Awakening
picks up a hefty 8,850 starters, although it's not quite as much as the almost 1,000 starters which free-to-play title Spartacus Legends
picked up last week. Speaking of which, the gladiatorial combat title loses more than half its numbers in second, settling into a still high 4,400 this week.
Last week's other new release, Magic 2014 - Duels of the Planeswalkers
, drops below other popular free-to-play title, Doritos Crash Course 2
, in fourth with 550 starters, almost 1,000 less than last week.
Although not on sale this week, four sales since September and a permament price reduction in June ensured that Alan Wake's American Nightmare
was one of the most popular Dive games on the site, allowing it to appear on the table in tenth with 120 starters.Top Arcade Games Started
Although Jetpack Joyride (WP)
continues to take the lead on Windows Phone Games Started, this week's Deal of the Week title, Doodle God (WP)
, comes very close to toppling it with almost 120 starters. Last week's Deal title, Gerbil Physics (WP)
, also keeps strong numbers in third, with these three games sitting far above the rest of the table's usual free and popular titles, many of which will have been strong Dive contenders.Top Windows Phone Games StartedGames Completed
8,710 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 12,022 games between them (1,285 different games).
With the recent release of the Tiny Tina DLC
and all the rest of the DLC on sale as part of Deal of the Week, it's no surprise that Borderlands 2
continues to take in by far the biggest numbers on Retail Games Completed, despite nearly halving them from 1,650 to 850.
With the new Vengeance
DLC, Call of Duty: Black Ops II
also jumps up the table into second with 210 completions. Deadpool
also manages to double its completions, raising it from 80 to 160 and jumping up from sixth to third.Top Retail Games Completed
DLC also helps inflate numbers on the Arcade table for Games Completed, with 400 Days
proving a very popular add-on and putting The Walking Dead (Xbox 360)
right back at the top where it has spent most of its time in the last year.
The completions for Magic: The Gathering - DotP 2014
also grow this week, from 85 to nearly 200, taking the game from sixth to second place.Top Arcade Games Completed
The top of Windows Phone Games Completed reads a lot like Games Started, thanks to many popular and discounted games also coming with easy completions. It also sees the same titles of previous weeks, such as the easy completions of UNO (WP)
and Rabbids Go Phone (WP)
.Top Windows Phone Games CompletedAchievements Won
68,206 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 806,799 achievements online between them (50,467 different achievements).
Despite being the biggest starter and completer on the tables, Borderlands 2
has most of its spots on Retail Achievements Won stolen from it by ones from the CoD: BlOps 2
DLC, although it manages to slip two in at the bottom, including Shorty, You So Best
for completing the "Tiny Tina" DLC.Top Retail Achievements Won
The four easiest achievements for Defense Grid: The Awakening
claim the top spots on Arcade Achievements Won, whilst the first five of the "400 Days" achievements for The Walking Dead
take the bottom half and a solitary Spartacus Legends
achievement manages to slip into the middle for completing the Tutorial.Top Arcade Achievements WonJetpack Joyride
is again just denied the clean sweep on Windows Phone Achievements Won, this time by a single Doodle God
one in ninth place.Top Windows Phone Achievements Won
After briefly taking the lead on Genre last week, Role-Playing again slips behind Shooter and Action-Adventure, with both those genres getting boosts thanks to the sale titles and the CoD
Adventure also sees a big bump from 290,000 to over 1million, thanks to "400 Days" taking it from tenth to seventh place.Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
Unfortunately, the next few weeks see not much in the way of new releases, so let's hope for more sales to keep things interesting. Reading over Deadpool's article from last week reminds me of the good old days, almost a year ago, when I started writing these articles and I used to have a similar manic energy before I became the weary, grizzled, numbers-tired Wookiee you see today. I'm going to use the next few weeks to try and bring back some of that insanity. To that end, I am currently writing this whilst hanging upside down, playing the psychadelic Fable III
, drinking energy drinks through my nose and teaching the Statisticles the Macarena.
