This report is for the period July 15th to July 21st 2013
Welcome to some words. And also some numbers. And also some words about some numbers. Unfortunately, I can't offer numbers about words though.
Some of the more regular readers might be wondering where last week's article was. Well, it could have been one of a few different things:
a) I fell asleep at the wheel
b) The Statisticles were on strike
c) It got sucked into a vortex
Option a) is very unlikely. As a Wookiee, I only need to sleep for five minutes once every few months. Who do you think pilots the Falcon when Solo is entertaining a couple of Twi'lek girls
catching some zees? Option b) also doesn't add up. Ewoks by their nature are a very stupid
subservient, docile race. They wouldn't know the meaning of the words "employee grievances". Also, the turnover is too high for any of them to build up a portfolio of complaints. So, c) it is. Which would actually make sense, considering the massive swirling vortex in the north-west corner of the Stats office, which appeared after I started tinkering about with the Subtractatron's Flux Capacitor.Games Started
26,964 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 38,543 games between them (1,911 different games).Made free for the second half of July
as part of the most excellent "Games with Gold" program, Assassin's Creed II
storms to the top of the Retail Games Started table with over 4,500 starters. This gives Ezio the opportunity to look down on his successor, Assassin's Creed III
's Connor, in eighth. I wonder if he'll be tempted to perform a little death from above.
The only new release of the week to make it onto the table is the latest iteration of the stalwart army slayer series, Dynasty Warriors 8
. It makes it into second place, although with only just over 500 starters. I have to say that I'm very, very
disappointed to see that The Smurfs 2
doesn't make the table. For shame, TA. For shame.
There's been a veritable buttload of sales on the marketplace in recent months, including publisher or developer specific promotions. This week saw a CAPCOM sale that puts the Games on Demand versions of quick time event-em-up Asura's Wrath
in sixth and mash-up beat-em-up Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
in tenth.Top Retail Games Started
As has been the way for a while now, freeness rules the roost on Arcade Games Started. At the top of the pile, we get Spartacus Legends
continuing to pull in big numbers in first with over 1,000 starters. Although not free any more, previous "Games with Gold" title Defense Grid: The Awakening
rides high in second place with over 900. Further down we get Doritos Crash Course 2
in third, Happy Wars (Xbox 360)
in seventh and Harms Way
in ninth. Odd...very odd...
If it's not free, then it's CAPCOM, as the publisher sale brings us CAPCOM Arcade Cabinet
in fourth and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition
in eighth.Top Arcade Games Started
Despite only being available on Verizon Wireless Windows 8 devices, Halo: Spartan Assault (WP)
takes the top spot on Windows Phone Games Started, most probably by virtue of its AAA franchise association. The top down shooter pulls in over 300 starters in first, above Deal of the Week title geoDefense Swarm (WP)
, with the previous week's Deal game, Flight Control (WP)
, still proving popular in third.Top Windows Phone Games StartedGames Completed
6,900 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,563 games between them (1,278 different games).Tiny Tina
and the recent DLC sale
keeps Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360)
comfortably at the the top of Retail Games Completed for the fourth week running.
Predating the introduction of multiplayer modes into the series, Assassin's Creed II
was an easy completion; the easiest of the series if we were to go purely on completion percentages. The game continues to prove that, with over 200 completions this week in second. Although that represents only about 5% of the amount of players who started the game, I'm sure that number will continue to rise over the course of the next few weeks/months. I'm sure a few of the more TA Ratio focused amongst you will also enjoy the shift in ratio that this increase in the game's players will have made.
The release of the easily completed "Faction Pack
" DLC helps put Metro: Last Light
onto the table in seventh place. However, considering how easy the DLC is, the fairly low number of 85 completions suggests that not too many players were interested in picking it up.Top Retail Games Completed
I thought I'd seen the last of The Walking Dead (Xbox 360)
's chart domination. I really had. "400 Days
" has swiftly put a bullet in the head of that idea. The new episode helps give the game over 800 completions this week, down from the 2,500 completions a couple of weeks ago, but still way above any other title, including other zombie-fest State of Decay
Movie tie-in game, Battle: Los Angeles
, shows up in third, despite being poorly received and coming from way back in 2011. This is due to the game's recent Deal of the Week discount
and its ridonculously easy completion (over 72% of players have completed it). You TA'ers can't resist cheap, easy gamerscore. Having said that, if I'd seen that it was on sale, I would have been on that list too, but I was too busy being transfixed by the hypnotic vortex and its swirling rainbow of infinite blackness.Top Arcade Games Completed
I have nothing to say about this table. It is almost a complete rehash of previous weeks.
FINE!Halo: Spartan Assault
is seemingly too tough to show up (only 6 players have currently finished it). The appearance of KooZac (WP)
makes me frown. I'm currently working my way to completion on it myself. Grriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnd. As if I don't stare at enough numbers on a regular basis.Top Windows Phone Games CompletedAchievements Won
62,938 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 696,373 achievements online between them (50,887 different achievements).Assassin's Creed II
. Natch.Top Retail Achievements Won
"400 Days" for The Walking Dead
manages to monopolise Arcade Achievements Won, apart from a couple of Defense Grid
ones near the bottom. I also have this feeling that they're all being led by this one guy called Spartacus. So...which one of you is Spartacus?Top Arcade Achievements WonHalo: Spartan Assault
manages to nab half the places on Windows Phone Achievements Won, scattered across the table, with Flight Control
taking a peppering of four places and geoDefense Swarm
claiming the last remaining one in third.Top Windows Phone Achievements Won
Without knowing last week's numbers, I can't really say how Genre has changed this week, but at some point Action-Adventure managed to steal the top spot back from Shooter, probably thanks to Assassin's Creed IITotal TrueAchievements won by Genre
That's all for now. I'm going to spend some time figuring out where exactly this vortex leads to. And by "I", I mean I'm going to tie some Statisticles together along a long piece of rope and send them forth while I hold onto the end. Because that always works out well in the movies.
Tune in next week to see if anything can topple Ezio on Retail. Oh, hell. Let's just have a sneaky peek to see what was released and see if we can guess: Retail Releases: Week of July 22nd, 2013
Hah. Hah. Hah...
