Creating Elder Scrolls Online

The scamp...anyone who has played Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion knows this little creature. Most often found in caves or attached to Daedric Shrines, scamps are more annoyance than true danger, though their fireballs and sharp claws can't be ignored completely. Then again, I have a soft spot for the little imps. Scamps are a fairly inexpensive summon, and I must have beaten thousands of them to death over the years building my hand-to-hand and blunt skills. I learned from a friend the true usefulness of Everscamp as I fried untold numbers of the poor scamps while leveling up my destruction magic, and skewering countless others for the greater good of my archery skills. Oh, yes, scamps and I go way back...
scamp will bring Tamriel and its denizens to the world of MMORPG; it's remarkable how much time and detail go into even minor creations like the scamp. First, a video of the scamp both in gameplay action and in its death animation; these scamps might actually be a bit tougher than their video ancestors.

The developer also gives us a glimpse into the process it takes to create these diminutive Daedra. Beginning with the lore that already exists for the creature, they draw the scamp to emphasize its agility and quickness, its mischievousness and cruelty. As a well-known inhabitant of the Elder Scrolls universe, they also wanted to give the little scamp its own big personality, which we see in its rather melodramatic death throes in the video.

Whether summoned as a personal minion or part of a pack sent to fetch you for Sheogorath, the scamp is a small but integral part of Tamriel. It's encouraging to see so much effort and detail put into its creation, but from the makers of Elder Scrolls, I would expect nothing less.

Elder Scrolls Online is expected for the Xbox One Spring, 2014.
