Achievement Preview Spotlight: Brothers...

By Jonathan Barnes, 6 years ago
After a one-week hiatus, it seems we've finally reentered the time of year when we'll have at least something (...anything) to throw into the Achievement Preview Spotlight. August will be upon us in mere days and with it the annual Summer of Arcade promotion. While the podcast crew may be a little down on this summer's offerings, that doesn't mean the achievements can't be tasty. With that in mind, let's dig into the first offering, Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons.

Coming out of Starbreeze Studios (Syndicate Achievements, The Darkness Achievements, and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena Achievements), Brothers features twelve achievements worth 400G. Of those twelve, there are no secrets... for they are no fun, and the descriptions provide cryptic hints as to what might be the key to unlocking them. Put on your prognosticator hats, hunters, we're about to take some guesses.

Let's arbitrarily kick things off with the first achievement on the list, shall we?

Take a Break in Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons (Xbox 360)
Kids usually play close to home.

Like I said, pretty vague, right?

This is going to be the MO for all of the achievements today. With a description like, "Kids usually play close to home," one has little idea of what exactly is going on, but one can probably surmise that it is plot related. I'd wager one, healthy MSP that this is an achievement for passing through whatever serves as the tutorial for Brothers.

Moving right along, the next achievement brought a simple smile to my face and thus warrants inclusion.

Turtle Soup in Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons (Xbox 360)
Lift, Drop, Slide, Plop!

Yep... that's about right.

With an achievement list such as this, a few of the titles and descriptions pop out at me and fill me with intrigue. The next such achievement is in that select company.

Call of the giants in Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons (Xbox 360)
First take a deep breath.

"...take a deep breath"? "Call of the giants"? I have to say, this might be the winner for mystery and intrigue amongst the list.

My mind tends to take dark turns down ominous roads, not unlike Alan Wake, and this achievement took me down a super dark train of thought.

Wishing Well in Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons (Xbox 360)
For your wish to come true, you need something to throw.

Oh man... are you going to throw your brother down that well??? Dark, man... real dark.

Finally, let's cut the feces, shall we? It's nigh impossible to pick out the achievement that will be the ratio champion. All but two of the achievements are either 20G or 40G, meaning that we have two achievements that will have a bit of an initial advantage, seeing as how they're 60G. I'm going to take a second to flip a coin ("Heads or Tails?")

Alright, you got me. I'll make no bones about it, I loved BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360) Achievements and the coin flip, much like the one of Booker, was destined to land on this achievement as the ratio champion.

Also for the fact that we already discussed the other 60G pop.

Love Birds in Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons (Xbox 360)
Love Birds74 (60)
A caged heart cannot love.

The bird or the cage?

Looking ahead to next week, I'm presenting you (YES, YOU!) with a decision. We have three possible candidates for the Spotlight: The Brigmore Witches for Dishonored, Phineas and Ferb: Quest for Cool Stuff Achievements (provided the achievements get added in time), and Charlie Murder Achievements. Which one would YOU like to see take its turn in the spotlight?

If there's an upcoming game or DLC pack that you'd like to see featured in the Achievement Preview Spotlight, be sure to let us know in the comments!
