Over the weekend WWE held their annual SummerSlam
PPV that, I have been informed, contained two Match of the Year Candidates in both Punk/Brock and Bryan/Cena. If you didn't check it out, you probably missed the other big news of the weekend, which was the official WWE 2K14
roster reveal. This reveal was... I'll go with "interesting", in that it was done on stage by the wrestlers themselves. Jerry Lawler, JR, Ric Flair, and our Intellectual Savior Damien Sandow (who, yes, came to the stage with his waterproof briefcase) introduced the following roster of characters:
Alberto Del Rio
Andre the Giant
Big Show (Retro)
Big John Studd
Bret "Hitman" Hart
Brock Lesnar (Retro)
Chris Jericho (Retro, which appears to be retro WWE, no "Lion Heart")
Diesel (While it doesn't say Retro, this is the "New Generation" Diesel from when he was Champ)
"Hollywood" Hulk Hogan
John Cena (Retro)
Kane (Retro, with the long hair and full mask)
King Kong Bundy
"Macho Man" Randy Savage
"Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibase
Ric Flair (Retro)
Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
Shawn Michaels (Retro, like Diesel, it's the early-mid 90's Heartbreak Kid version)
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin
The Rock (Retro, Attitude-era)
Triple H (Retro)
Undertaker "American Badass"
Eight roster slots are left blank with the promise of the full roster "coming soon". There's still time to get The Shield, Fandango and Antonio Cesaro into the game!
If you have lots of time to kill or missed out on the reveal when it happened live, you can catch the full video right here:
In addition, we have one hour's worth of livestream footage provided by Senior Game Designer Bryan Williams and Interactive Marketing Manager Aubrey Sitterson as they provide full-length matches and highlight gameplay improvements.
Remember, WWE is all about telling stories and you won't have to wait long before you too can play it out and see where it goes. WWE 2K14
will be available October 29th in North America and November 1st in Europe.
