There was speculation that Microsoft was going to take to the occasion of PAX Prime 2013 to announce a release date for the Xbox One gaming console. The event came and went without too much earth shattering news in regards to the new console. Instead, they’ve decided to have the stage all to themselves and announce the release date today. Xbox One will release on:November 22nd, 2013
This release date includes the following regions: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA. Outside of these areas, no official date(s) have been revealed but Microsoft has promised that more markets will launch in 2014.
The Xbox One will release one week after Sony’s Playstation 4 North American Release of November 15th. The Playstation 4 releases a bit later in Europe on November 29th. The Xbox One’s release date is exactly eight years after that of Xbox 360’s original release on November 22nd, 2005 (in the US and Canada).
What does everyone think of this date? Is it a missed opportunity not to launch before the Playstation 4 in North America, considering Sony played their hand first? Perhaps it won’t make a difference, especially if the console and the games can speak for themselves. The fact that Xbox One releases right on Xbox 360’s eight birthday is kind of neat too, much like hitting an achievement milestone right on the money. We’ll see how all of this unfolds this November and in the weeks and months that follow.
