A dilemma that many gamers are facing with the transition from the current generation to the new generation consoles is whether or not to purchase a game for Xbox 360 or for Xbox One. The decision is made more difficult considering the Xbox One release date is November 22nd, which will be weeks after many of this year’s AAA titles have already debuted on Xbox 360. The solution: have your cake and eat it too. Many physical and online retailers have been detailing substantial upgrade incentives when you trade-in an Xbox 360 game for the Xbox One equivalent. This allows you to enjoy the game now but then be able to own it on your shiny new system at a reasonable upgrade price.
For those looking to go down the digital route, a new bundle has been announced for Call of Duty: Ghosts
. Select retailers will be offering a disc-less dual-license digital version of the game for a suggested retail of $69.99
. The bundle grants you a digital copy of Ghosts
on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One and will be tied to your gamertag. Pricing and availability for other regions haven’t been detailed quite yet, and participating stores accepting pre-orders for the game will be detailed in the near future. Alternatively, you can purchase Call of Duty: Ghosts
for Xbox 360 straight from the Xbox Marketplace for $59.99. Up until March 31st, 2014, you’ll have the option to upgrade to Xbox One for just an additional $10. Both of these offers look similar, if not the same, except that the first offer will be available at stores other than the Xbox marketplace, a definite plus if using gift cards or rewards programs.
One might automatically dismiss this digital offer in favor of similar offers that pertain to the physical disc. You have to consider, though, that most if not all of these upgrade offers pertaining to the physical media require you to trade in and forfeit your 360 version to qualify. The digital offer is being presented as a dual-license, meaning you’ll have both versions of the game at one bundle price. It was revealed a while ago with Call of Duty: Ghosts
that your multiplayer stats stay with you whether you’re playing on 360 or X1, and you’re free to jump back and forth between versions at will.
Some may upgrade to the Xbox One version of Ghosts
and never look back, but some may want to hop onto Xbox 360 and play with friends. Then there are achievements to consider as well. As confirmed
earlier, achievements will stack with these cross-generation titles. This is all the more incentive to go back and forth between digital versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts
. We also detailed how a Season Pass will carry over
across generations on select titles including Ghosts
, as well as some to-be-announced ones as well. The cost of this particular Season Pass will be $49.99/£34.99/€49.99, and the Season Pass Guarantee offer is valid through May 31st, 2014.
The action all starts when Call of Duty: Ghosts
arrives on November 5th for Xbox 360, and November 22nd for the launch of Xbox One.
